Dana Carvey returned to host “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and if you are an ancient being from the dawn of time like me, you remembered what it was like to be little and thought it was hilarious. There were a few classic characters brought out of the moth balls (including the return of “Wayne’s World” in the cold open, Ross Perot and “Church Chat” with the Church Lady) and a few left in (where in God’s green name was Massive Head Wound Harry?), and while it wasn’t always funny, it was fun, and that’s something SNL doesn’t get to be a lot these days.
If Carvey alone isn’t enough to make you click through and watch some clips, Mike Myers showed up to help out with Wayne’s World, Jon Lovitz makes a guest appearance during the monologue, and Phil Hartman finally bursts free from the lonely grave of Paula Schultz.

Martin Short is funnier.

Just wanted to say thanks for not putting these in slideshow mode.
Oh, mercy. It was horrible. How is he even relevant anymore? And couldn’t he have come up with something new in the 20 years he’s been off the air?
The “Kill Bill” reference warms my geeky, nerd heart.
BRING BACK JOE PISCOPO!
How was Linkin Park?
Pretty confusingly bad. I’m not a big Linkin Park fan or anything (that would be my pal Jon Bois), but their new stuff is dangerously close to sounding like 311.
Monologue was forced and not funny. Wayne’s World and Sports Bar were good though.
Am I weird for thinking Abby Elliot’s ditzy blonde TV commercial at the end was kind of funny? Otherwise the episode was pretty terrible. Seemed like every sketch was either an old Carvey character or an unfunny celebrity impersonation.
Caught Portlandia this week. I was amazed that Fred Armisen can be funny. Why does he not try this at SNL?
too many commercials
Master of Disguise did it.
The show was going well, until that helmet-haired faggot Bieber showed up.
I liked Church Lady and Wayne’s World, haven’t gotten to Sports Bar yet….but those classic skits just highlight how bad the show really is now.
I like Kristen Wiig a lot, but goddamn she has the absolute worst characters. I fast forwarded through her stupid Disco weathergirl thing after the first “joke” and my wife’s like “Well you should give it a chance because of who it is” and I said “I did give it a chance. That’s why I watched her sing. Once.”
I actually thought it was one of the best episodes of the season. Wayne’s World and Church Chat were both funny, the Black Noise commercial was good, James Franco and his jobs was Paul Brittain’s first funny thing ever and even the Celebrity Crisis Line and Abby Elliott’s bad news chick are rewatchable.
