Here’s one for the comedy geeks: Ricky Gervais sat down and talked about comedy with Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K., and the resulting conversation will be aired on HBO April 22nd as a one-hour special called “Talking Funny.”
I’ve got a couple preview clips below, and even though they’re short, they effectively give me a big ol’ comedy boner. It’s not often you get to see four giants of stand-up talk about their craft like this. I mean, sure, my personal preference would be to see Dave Chappelle sitting in Seinfeld’s chair, but I’m not THAT finicky about such an impressive lineup. The last person I want to sound like is the music snob who quibbles with the Coachella lineup. Even though the Strokes are unbelievably boring live and have no business co-headlining with Kanye and Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon.
Aw crap.

Maybe Dave Chappelle in addition to Seinfeld, but certainly not in place of.
The fact that the Strokes are playing MSG live on Friday is baffling. The idiots in the back row are in for a snorefest.
/checks stubhub for Strokes tickets
Bill Burr would have ruled on this
Comedy giants. And Chris Rock.
I think by law, there were only permitted to have one black comedian on this special or it would have had to be under the Def Comedy Jam billing.
If they put patton oswalt on this, I would’ve came all over the place
Seinfeld and Louis CK have some shared material there. Hm.
WTF, Jerry? In the first clip Louis CK tells the joke about the punctuated street signs, and Jerry says Jerry did a version of that joke. Then in the actual promo Jerry is telling, poorly, Louis CK’s joke about a dad’s only vacation is the walk around the car. If the theme is ripping Louis CK off then they needed to invite Carlos Menica, Jim Gaffigan, and Dane Cook.
Gervais, Rock, Chappelle, CK, and Patton Oswalt. Man…that I would like to watch.
DO NOT lump Gaffigan in with Mencia and Cook. Seriously.
Don’t worry, anyone who admits to liking Kings Of Leon will never be considered a music snob. ZING!
Kings of Leon are the Community of music. They’re overrated and gay.
The Strokes are guaranteed to be better than Kings of Leon live. They were quite great at Lollapalooza last year and, well, Kings of Leon are just a terrible band all around anymore (but man their first two albums that nobody in America listened to were really good). /end music snobbery
I’d rather see Chappelle and Patton instead of Seinfeld and Chris Rock, but what can you do. Seinfeld hasn’t been funny in years (that bee movie? The relationship tv show? What WAS that?) and Chris Rock… well, he was in an Adam Sandler movie.
Don’t worry, anyone who thinks The Strokes are boring live but suggests Kings Of Leon aren’t will never be consid… oh.
The show looks cool.
Does anyone else think the backdrop that are using for it looks exactly like the skyline Conan used in the late 90′s?
I know there are only so many ways to represent some buildings in Midtown Manhattan at night, but still.
Cool. Three amazingly funny comics and Jerry Seinfeld.
A black man, an english man, a jewish man and a mexican walk into a bar…
Lose Seinfeld and Louis C.K. for Chappelle and Tosh….
Where’s David “Beef Jelly” Winfield and Slappy Pappy?
So this is basically “Tough Crowd” with Colin Quinn sans Arianna Huffington?
That said, I still have a comedy boner.
I’m so tired of having Seinfeld’s mug all over these comedy tribute things like he’s the messiah of all that is funny. I definitely agree about Chappelle being a better choice.
i dont care what anybody says, mencia was a funny mofo!!!
Here is my totally original take on the above comment:
i don’t care what anybody says, mencia was a funny mofo!!!
That comment is my own totally original comment, and it is mine. SCOTT never posted anything like my totally original comment. Mine has an apostrophe.
My next comment will distinguish between the broad stereotypes of different ethnic groups. Stay tuned.
Shut up, Ned.
fatsuits for everyone! except Louis CK
