The last time Zach Galifianakis hosted "Saturday Night Live," he shaved his beard for the show's final sketch. This time around, he got a Mr. T haircut during the final commercial break (watch backstage video below). I pity the fool who sat through both of Jessie J's performances.
As for the rest of the episode, this is going to shock you: there were some memorable laughs and also some terrible sketches. That has never happened before, except for every week for the last 30 years. I've got the applicable videos below. And yes, they're Hulu videos. Sorry, non-Americans. Please send your hate mail to Hulu.
First, as promised:
This was outstanding, and unfortunately the video cuts off before the big finish: Galifianakis lip-synching to "Tomorrow" from Annie. You can watch it here while it lasts, or just enjoy it in GIF form.

I thought this could've been a little bit tighter, but it hit some high notes and -- most importantly -- WASN'T A COLD OPEN ABOUT POLITICS. We need to applaud "SNL" every time they don't open with a fake C-SPAN clip.
Awwww, Zach plus little kids. This probably could have been the entire show.
I really enjoyed this concept, and I'll say something that I rarely say: Bobby Moynihan made me laugh.
I liked this one because I hate fat children and bitchy moms.
This is the sort of borderline sketch that's a dud with a lesser host but works because of Galifiankis's comic chops. But no one on the planet could have made the Canadian entertainment show funny.

i REALLY loved the catchphrase comics. and i’m with you on something I never ordinarily say…Kenan had a great line. you know, the old timeless classic “Eatin’ Dookie” bit.
airhorn comic needs to be real.
What no clips of the Jessie J performances?
I really didn’t think the Jessie J performances were horrible. Do It Like a Dude is an offensively bad song that made me think she was Ke$ha bad. But she’s got a decent voice. It’s modern day pop music. Bitching about it is like complaining that SNL used to be funnier.
Anyone know what was up with that terrible Canadian entertainment news sketch? Was the joke that they got all the stereotypes wrong? Armison’s accent went from Swedish to Irish but was never even close to Canadian. That was probably the worst SNL sketch I have ever seen.
I can’t believe THE TALK got on so early in the show, that was bad even for the throwaway that comes on at 12:54
BEEEEEEEEF jelly.
Jessie J looks like Katy Perry with no tits and that is no good for anyone.
That Titanic sketch was awful, even moreso than that awful Canadian one.
And I know it’s pretty played out at this point, but the Scared Straight sketch was very good. Zach saying “And it won’t be Helena Bonham Carter…It will be hella boning in your farter” was the highlight of the night.
I would have picked the same highlights- the titanic sketch was the type that usually gets dragged out but was surprisingly succinct and stayed funny.
The Canadian entertainment… oof. That was brutal.
1) Jessie J? yeah, I would…
2) Does Armisen have incriminating pictures of Lorne or something? For fuck’s sake, he is 44 years old. Didn’t they used to kick you off SNL at 35? What does this moron bring to the table?
“Everything was the worst but some things were ok.” – Every comment/review about SNL ever.
I was disappointed at Galifianakis’s opening card bit because there’s a video of him doing it at South by Southwest a couple years ago where the last card read ‘Kill Dane Cook’.
@HowdySThompson, both Galifianakis monologues have recycled his stage show bits, which is typical for SNL hosts with a background in standup comedy (going back to Steve Martin). It’s a chance for them to do their material to a large audience, and I welcome seeing it again, in a slightly new way, on live television. In conclusion, BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEF jelly.
The open caught me by surprise.
I guess that’s a compliment of sorts.
Does that girl on the left realize she’s not wearing any pants??
The monologue and the digital short were golden. Although, really, what little boy doesn’t think that farts are funny? I call shenanigans.
Jessie J might have a decent voice under all the oversinging and forced whackiness, but she was still one of the most annoying things I’ve ever seen.
turned this off during the opening monologue, couldn’t believe Galifianakis is STILL doing the lame “tearing pages off an easel” gimmick he’s been doing in his standup for years. just an absolute hack, through and through.
I think I laughed the hardest during the monologue when Zach G. talked about using a lot of Ask Body Spray and said, “if you don’t get that joke then you’re not racist.” That was funny in itself, but then he turned around and pointed to the black guy in the band. The reason I cracked up is because I ALWAYS watch that guy’s reaction shots during the monologue. His facial expressions are great.
It was an above average show. Wow, back to back decent shows. Way to go SNL.
Kings of Comedy and Corn Syrup commercial were pretty funny, as was the opening monologue.
But seriously, what the hell was with that abortion of a skit, Canadian talk show? What a dog that was.
Jessie J was surprisingly vocally talented for a pop “star” (?) It sounded a lot better than the Black Eyed Peas superbowl appearance.
Corn Syrup should have been right out of the monologue, which people like, and then onto Scared Straight and Titanic (which I felt harkened back to some 90s-esque clips and is why they stuck it in the ass-end of the show).
Why do this? Ohhh, I don’t know, because you showcase your host everyone tuned in to watch before you showcase your everyday people no one cares about. Seriously, The Talk? Fuck off. Learn how to use your host. It’s not hard. If Will Ferrell was hosting, would you stick him in an unfunny sketch to open the show? Of course you would, because your terrible at your jobs.
Also, Kings of Comedy was OK, but again, Zach G could have done with a better writer there.
The Talk skit was doomed to fail from the beginning. It’s four women.

We’ve really set the bar high, haven’t we?
I really want to know who Fred Armenson blew to get on a comedy show. The guy is so unfunny that it makes me angry
The Ask Body Spray joke had me laughing for awhile. Also, the autoerotic asphixiation masturbating dog… just wow.
I heard that, after the show, Jessie J helped hypnotize a male model and told Christine Taylor her outfit looks tacky.
jeesie j just smacks of the over-privileged middle-class stage school graduate who has somehow stumbled into “urban music” and is just thrilled to be famous. her parents are probably university lecturers and she dresses like a school teacher when she visits for sunday lunch.
zach gee was funnee.
having said that she has got a delicious arse.
and yep, bang on the money – [en.wikipedia.org]
fucking fake ass bitch.
White Bernie Mac is something real. He’s called Ralphie May.
Boston Powers was the only time Seth Meyeres made me laugh.
The Hulu announcer sounds like a white guy doing an impression of a black guy doing an impression of Casey Kasem.
Seriouly, whats up with half the comments on here being such shallow parodies of bad comment sections? This is a snarky tv site run by an ex marine with a sports blogging background. Stop being such chicken little slits. I laughed a half dozen times during the show. What more do you want? You’re borderline pathetic here. Not you ufford, the comments.
SERVED!
