This barely got covered by any news sources yesterday, so you may not have heard that President Obama released his long-form birth certificate yesterday. He and the First Lady also taped a segment with Oprah Winfrey that will air next week, and you can watch a preview clip here. In it, Obama does his best to maintain his sense of humor about the most moronic controversy in American history, when what he probably wants to do is ram his fist up Donald Trump’s ass and work his mouth like a hand puppet. “Durrr, look at me, I’ve got stupid hair.”
Listen, it’s totally cool with me if you don’t like Obama’s policies. Go ahead and hate whatever health care plan or tax hike suits your vitriol. I don’t even care if you’re put off by his manner of speaking. But let’s all be grown-ups and drop this birth certificate thing. I don’t have the time or patience for stupid, pointless political arguments that AREN’T EVEN ABOUT POLITICS. I have way better things to do with my life, like look for pictures of dogs with fluffy tails.

I’m just glad we can move onto more important stuff like the Royal Wedding.
Nah, birth certificate isn’t enough.
I NEED THE PLACENTA THAT FELL FROM HIS MOTHER’S AND LANDED ON AMERICAN SOIL!
I want to see Michelle’s long-form Earth certificate
Yet by responding to the Trump stuff he sort of let them win. They got to him.
@donturtuccio
No he didn’t let Trump win he let the terrorists win
Anyone who honestly believes that there’s some vast conspiracy behind Obama’s presidency is too dumb to accept evidence to the contrary anyway.
Yoy could have live video verified by 100 expert sources and some jackass would still swear that he was born in Kenya.
They’ve gotten to you too? Its obviously a forgery produced by Bill Ayers…or maybe even Fidel Castro. We’re through the looking-glass people.
I still want proof that he’s not a Muslim.
With my own eyes, I saw Obama eat a pork BBQ sandwich. Proof enough?
Donald Trump was born in the United Kingdom.
**waits for this blatant lie to become a credible rumor.then a fact. Then…profit!**
HURR UNCONSTITUTIONAL
Maybe the media will stop covering this bullshit if you’ll stop paying attention.
@ Lenny: was this the work of the reverse vampires?
(if you ever want evidence that America just doesn’t work anymore, read the comments of any Yahoo news article)
Way to go Trump. You cost us a post about dogs with fluffy tails. You will live to regret this.
the most moronic controversy in American history
The Teapot Dome Scandal is relieved to have lost that title!
Maybe the media will stop covering this bullshit if you’ll stop paying attention.
Yes, that’s it! If this blog with several thousand daily readers would stop reacting to TV channels with millions and millions viewers, then the TV channels would have no choice but to bend to my will. ALL HAIL THE SUPREME MEDIA FORCE OF WARMING GLOW.
This was pretty funny 2 years ago, and I fear it’s prophetic today:
[www.cracked.com]
Warming Glow: There when you don’t need it. Fucking your sister when you do.
Look, lets be honest. Only two groups are still caring about this: Lunatic Birthers and Obama supporters. One can’t acknowledge the obvious and the other likes to keep the focus on the first because the economy is still hurting and gas is $4 a gallon. Don’t expect this to go away anytime soon.
Wait, so he’s not from India?
Dammit, Matt, you know the kind of power you have. Shows don’t event air if you don’t mention them in “What’s on Tonight.”
I don’t care what kind of certificate they produce, they can’t make me believe Obama was born . . .
Hatched in an incubator in some subsurface base on the dark side of the moon run by pinko commie socialist neo-Nazi zombie robots maybe. But definitely not born.
@Erswi: Has anyone SEEN his belly-button? I think not!
I still maintain playing this birth certificate card in April 2011 was a terrible decision. A smart strategist would have held onto that thing until the Republican candidates started coming out of the woodwork and were all over it. Then you release the birth certificate with the force of a Blake Griffin dunk. Then again, nobody ever accused Obama of being a good strategist. Smooth talker, yes? Ok basketball player, sure. But a brilliant tactician with a viable endgame that doesnt include a government health care plan provided by a government so deep in debt it is basically owned by China. Not at all.
I REFUSE TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS THE SON OF GOD UNTIL I SEE A LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!
i heard that in 4th grade while playing 4Square the ball totally touched the corner of Baracks square, but he lied and said it didn’t, which moved him up to the number 1 square.
The nerve on that guy.
side note: I wonder if Michelle shaves the nappy dugout…
“Anyone who honestly believes that there’s some vast conspiracy behind Obama’s presidency is too dumb to accept evidence to the contrary anyway.”
Aww. You’re gonna make Dancing Baptist cry.
George Soros has gotten to you all I see. Obama wasnt born in the USA..he dont like football and I heard hes a gay!
You know who loses in all this? Bo the dog.
Of course this won’t put the issue to rest for the birthers. No amount of documentation can make this president white.
And yeah, that’s what this is all about. The fact that Trump pivoted on a dime from “Obama is a Kenyan” to “Obama only got into Harvard on affirmative action” is all you need to know.
If you believe this bullshit, you’re a fucking racist. Period.
Jeteyes, that Cracked thing is terrific and scarily prescient. I can’t believe they worked in Charlie Sheen, but I suppose the coke-addled writing was on the wall.
@Freedom Chipmunk I agree with you that using birthers as examples of how stupid and extreme the tea party is, was fun, but if anyone was dumb enough to still doubt that he was born here before they released a 2nd version, they’re stupid enough to still doubt it. As for the rest of your post, if you want to discuss that, I assume I can meet you in the comments section of drudge?
Apparently birthers have never heard of Danny Almonte.
@Otto:
While I don’t doubt there is a large overlap between birthers and racists I don’t think Trump is doing anything but trolling for attention, which he is a master at doing.
And this explains why Obama supporters love the birthers: because they allow all opponents of Obama’s policies to be painted with the racism brush, regardless of how accurate it might be.
Please remember that his opponent in the last presidential election was not born in the United States.
But he was white.
While I don’t doubt there is a large overlap between birthers and racists I don’t think Trump is doing anything but trolling for attention, which he is a master at doing.
Trolling for attention is what Trump does best, sure. But anyone who insists “the blacks” like him is also likely a racist.
And this explains why Obama supporters love the birthers: because they allow all opponents of Obama’s policies to be painted with the racism brush, regardless of how accurate it might be.
I know this is a popular theme on the right, but frankly, it’s bullshit. No one’s saying that opponents of the Affordable Care Act are racist, and no one’s saying that people who don’t support Obama’s call to end tax subsidies are racist.
But if an opponent of Obama’s still persists in believing that Obama was not really born in America -— despite the official birth certificate, despite the long-form birth certificate, despite the announcements in both Hawaii newspapers that were based on that week’s hospital records, despite the affadavits from the doctor’s family and others who remember the birth, despite the INS records of his father that listed the place of birth, and despite the review and judgment in 2008 of the state’s governor, secretary of state, and head of the department of health (all Republicans, mind you) that Obama was incontrovertibly born in Hawaii -— then yes, that person is a racist. Plain and fucking simple.
And frankly, if the rest of the Republicans who aren’t racist don’t want to be lumped in with this group — which, you know, represents half the Republican Party according to the latest polls? — then they should fucking denounce them. They shouldn’t pull this shit that Boehner did about how “people can believe whatever they want to believe.” McCain was man enough to tell that woman in the 2008 campaign that Obama was an American, and the rest of these sackless clowns can too.
I’m over here in the Democratic Party telling Al Sharpton and the douchebags at PETA to shut the fuck up. Feel free to do the same with the assholes on your side.
What Otto said.
At Otto:
First I am not a republican (more libertarian), second lots of folks on the right are happy to call birthers loons. Third, I get your point but those polls are notoriously inaccurate given they also showed that 51% of Democrats were considered truthers at one point ([politi.co]). And given the fact that MSNBC has the most birther coverage of the major networks ([bit.ly]) it does appear that there is an effort on the left to keep the issue live.
/My sincere apologies for screwing up the thread.
@Otto
This distraction is good for Obama. Takes attention away from his wars, the garbage economy, and so on and so forth.
Wouldn’t shock anyone if he was approached by dems to go on a rampage in the name of republicans to 1) make them look bad and 2) provide a distraction from real topics, like how obama is basically bush, his ramming of healthcare down an unwilling nations throat the lone exception.
Yes, many on the right have called them loons. Karl Rove did, for instance, though I suspect it was because he knew this issue would be death for the party in a general election.
Sorry, that truther poll was poorly phrased, and if you read the results at Scripps, you’ll see most of the people who answered yes didn’t believe Bush engineered the attacks but rather “let them happen” because he ignored the August PDB.
But whatever — find me a single Democratic leader, just one, who has given even a shred of credibility to the truther assholes the way that Republicans have coddled the birthers.
And your thing on the media notes that MSNBC consistently spends more time on politics in general, and therefore spent more time on the political issue of the week.
Rationalize it however you want, but you’ve got a serious set of racists inside your party. I didn’t put them there, and MSNBC didn’t put them there. Do us all a favor and tell them to help themselves to a heaping cup of shut the fuck up, and we can be done with it.
/Apologies as well
Wouldn’t shock anyone …
Especially if that person were insane and believed in stupid conspiracy theories.
“This distraction is good for Obama.”
Which is why he offered the definitive proof that put it to an end, once and for all?
If he wanted the distraction, he would’ve stayed coy about it and let Republicans continue to make asses out of themselves. He just did them a huge favor.
Go read any liberal website – they’re pissed that he provided the evidence now rather than waiting. But stupid Obama, he wants to govern the country like a grown-up rather than play games for 2012.
@Otto:
Is Howard Dean enough of a Democrat? ([slate.me])
@Bryan:
This is definitive proof, which will be totally ignored by birthers b/c they are F*CKING NUTS, so the story isn’t going to die, just get more silly. And every moment spent talking about it is a moment not spent talking about actual policy.
/Uproxx should maybe get a politics blog and/or corner for us reprobates to go to to not screw up the Corgi fun.
I’d like to see Trump’s girth certificate. Because he’s kind of fat. Girthy, some might say.
I never heard Dean say that and he’s a fucking idiot for saying that.
See? It’s really not that hard. Instead of whining that the other side is worse, you can just go ahead and stick to your own moral compass and call out the idiots on your own side.
Otto:
I never said the other side was worse, I said that only two groups cared the racist lunatics (I am including racist now because I think you are right, that is a major motivator) and the folks who like to point to racist lunatics and say “these are the folks who oppose us”.
The follow up point is that both sides of American politics (and it is reductive to say there are only two, but work with me) have their lunatic fringe who the leadership embraces when they need it and denounces when they don’t, neither side is pure, but neither side is all crazy either.
Otto Man Says: “Instead of whining that the other side is worse, you can [call out the mumbo jumbos in your own party like I did!].”
Otto Man Also Says:
1)But whatever — find me a single Democratic leader, just one, who has given even a shred of credibility to the truther assholes the way that Republicans have coddled the birthers.
2)Rationalize it however you want, but you’ve got a serious set of racists inside your party.
3)And frankly, if the rest of the Republicans who aren’t racist don’t want to be lumped in with this group — which, you know, represents half the Republican Party according to the latest polls…
“/Uproxx should maybe get a politics blog and/or corner for us reprobates to go to to not screw up the Corgi fun.”
I nominate Punte, now that he’s left the nest at WL. That man can spit venom with the best of ‘em.

Tacos, you’re right that crazies abound, but this situation is not balanced. One side pushes, or at least condones, demonstrably false claims (Kenyan, Muslim, Climate Change is a hoax, Evolution is a theory, etc.). Both (all?) sides suck, but to claim, today, right now, that the left is equally rabid in their chasing of invisible cars is a false equivalency.
/may lightning strike me if I ever again discuss politics on a tv blog.
I actually had a thoughtful response for you, but given that the name you’re posting under is “Baraq al Bama” you’ve pretty much just proved my point.
You’re a racist and a fucking moron. Have fun with that, shithead.
PS Thanks, Otto.
Fair enough, Tacos. There are people like that on the left, but they’re a small number and they’re idiots.
Tell you what — I’ll keep punching hippies and you keep telling birthers they’re fucking nuts and we’ll do our part to nudge this nation back to sanity.
@Jeteyes: A few years ago the nuts on the left were pushing that the President either directly killed 3000 U.S. citizens to get us into war or knew it was going to happen and did nothing. Today the crazies on the Right are saying a man who clearly was born in the U.S. was not. The crazies get crazier when they are out of power, wait until the next Republican president and see what the left nut comes up with.
Baraq: Dude, not cool. Go sit on the short bus with the other mouth breathers.
@Otto: deal.
Now back to our regularly scheduled TV stuff.
All I have to say is maybe the media will stop covering this bullshit if you’ll stop paying attention.
Other than what this issue says about the US as a whole, this really hasn’t been that big of an issue. This hasn’t really gotten THAT much mainstream media coverage, it just seems like it. And when I feel like when the media does cover it, they’re trying to say “hey look, there really are people this retarded out there”, but it has the opposite affect.
And to Matt, I’m not referring to you in the next paragraph. I’m actually happy I can go to a website and talk about the philosophical/social implications of an issue like this, rather than it’s merits. It’s hard to find diversity in opinions when we all just go to our own ideologically similar news blogs. And we have no uniting interests (other than hatred for the Red Sox and Yankees) to keep the debate grounded when a tea partier shows up on huffingtonpost, or someone with at least an 8th grade education shows up on foxnews.com. So lobster dog is saving America, is what I’m saying. But…
There are still people that believe the earth is flat, but you know what we do? We fucking ignore them and move on. I looked for a link to the “Just Don’t Look” song from Treehouse of Horror VI, which I believe is also when Homer punches that guy that invented the annoying radio commercials, but they’re not on youtube. (see how I brought it back to TV)
Well done, Otto Man. Well done.
Even if I was racist, that wouldn’t change the fact that you consistently contradict yourself in your confused, hateful, and often rambling political rants.
@Tacos
Back to your first post that Trump was trolling. I think he was making one quick statement to get the fringe on his side, which McCain for whatever reason wasn’t able to do. And as soon as he did, boom Obama just made him look even less credible. So now he’s associated with only those lunatics. Like, THE ONE TIME my friends caught me with a tranny…
Matt wrote: “I have way better things to do with my life, like look for pictures of dogs with fluffy tails.”
But then there was no link to dogs with fluffy tails. I really thought there might be a link to dogs with fluffy tails.
“Even if I was racist”
There’s really no “even if” needed there.
@Chad
I think you are right, but I think he was doing it for the free pub/satisfy his horrendous ego. There is no way he is a viable candidate for the GOP nomination if for no other reason than he would get his ass kicked. However, he is sucking up all the air in the room right now for no other reason than his willingness to say outrageous things and give news networks something to cover that can be condensed into a soundbite.
Oh no, a racist mouthbreathing moron isn’t persuaded by my arguments.
Dear me. How ever will I sleep tonight?
Eh, I don’t know, in your UPROXX pajamas like you usually do?
PS – You realize your avatar was a racist character? Does that offend your delicate sensibilities too?
I want to hug Otto. He’s the Charles P. Pierce of Uproxx comment sections.
“A few years ago the nuts on the left were pushing that the President either directly killed 3000 U.S. citizens to get us into war or knew it was going to happen and did nothing.”
Did these nuts form their own political party, get major funding from billionaire brothers, get major coverage from every network, have a direct negative effect on both parties in a mid term election and then hold budget negotiations hostage?
Yeah, Baraq, thinking birthtards are racist really means you have delicate sensibilities.
Keep digging, asshole. When you hit China you can wow them with all your jokes about the dirty yellow hordes.
@Tim Was Tim
No, but neither did the Birthers. It is inaccurate to conflate the Tea Party with the Birthers, some folks are in both camps, many aren’t. (also, there is no one “Tea Party” so it is hard to define exactly who counts, it takes more than a tri-corner hat).
As for the particulars:
Own political party? No but per the polls at the time they made up a good chunk of the Democratic Party (though probably not the 51%)
Funding from Billionaire Brothers? I don’t know, I do know that just like the Koch brothers are the left’s Voldemort George Soros occupies that space for much of the right.
Major Coverage? The major coverage of the birthers DOESN’T help them, it exposes their idiocy, which is fine except it also allows some on the left to conflate all of the right and libertarians with the kooks. The fact that truthers were dismissed as fringe, even if they may not have always been a fringe group within the Democratic party prevented the right from tarring all the left with that label.
As for the election the birthers are not holding the budget hostage. Maybe the tea party is but that is different (even if some folks are members of both). You and I almost certainly disagree on policy matters vis-a-vis the budget but that is a separate issue and much more legitimate and consistent with our system of checks and balances than this birther (or in the old days truther) idiocy.
I remember when all those Democrats in Congress and all those Democratic state legislatures introduced all those 9/11 Truther bills. It really was just as big a deal as the birthers. Exactly the same.
And of course that poll about 51% of Democrats was accurate. That’s why all the other polls showed the same thing and all the Democratic candidates for president made such a big deal out of it during the 2004 campaign. And Joe Lieberman, the Democrats’ last VP nominee kept talking about it.
These issues are truly exactly the same. Completely.
@Goyza: you are right, there were no truther state bills, but Rep. Kucinich wanted to hold Congressional hearings. Part of the difference is the subject matter of the crazy. Election law is handled at the state level so state legislatures are more likely to be involved, national security is a federal matter so the action will be at the federal level.
As for the polls, it is true that polls are not exact but that cuts both ways, you want to be skeptical of the truther poll? Go nuts, but be skeptical of birther polls as well, even if they match your expectation.
/watching the draft, 4 beers in.
@Chad Farthouse
You completely didn’t get what I was trying to say. I never insinuated anything about the Tea Party or the birthers. I don’t even like talking about the former. I’m just saying that if Obama REALLY wants to get re-elected, he should have held onto the birth certificate thing until late in the game and dropped it like the Hammer of Thor, thereby creating a an upward swing in popularity at an opportune time instead of 18 months out. Also, there is no comments section on Drudge Report. God, wouldn’t that be something to witness though.
Note: On a serious note, I am a fiscal conservative with Libertarian ideals from a very, very red state that votes almost entirely Republican and is basically the only state in the country working with a budget surplus. So, that’s the basis of why I’m not a big fan of Obama. I do not agree with many of his beliefs and his programs do not and will not benefit me to a degree in which I can defend him, much less vote for him. I’m a “to each their own” kind of person. If you want to vote for the guy, fine. If you want to worship him like a God, OK then. But I really, really hate when people break me and others down to “stupid racist conservatives” because we don’t agree with the president’s policies and ideals.
What state is that, FC?
Is it Texas? Check the news again — that surplus was a house of cards, and the state is now deep in deficit.
And seriously, if surpluses and deficits are your metric of a party’s success, you’re doing it wrong. Under Clintions budget — which every single Republican voted against — we dug our way out of the record Reagan deficits and put up a surplus. W. then took that surplus, and used deficit financing for two wars and the biggest entitlement program since the Great Society, and killed our revenue stream with tax cuts for the rich and gave us massive deficits again. Remember Dick Cheneys boast that “deficits don’t matter”?
The current national debt is 86% from the Republican party. Obamacare is projected to make a major dent in the deficit and rolling back tax breaks for Paris Hilton and company would go along way too.
Being worried about the deficit and voting Republican is an oxymoron. Paul Ryans plan — as even Reagan and Bush officials warn us — will only make the deficit worse through more and more tax cuts for the rich. It’s laughable.
And yes, I worship Obama like a god because I’m a figment of your imagination.
Go to the RNC website where they refer to Reagan as “Ronaldus Magnus” and the Reagan Legacy Peoject that wants to build statues of him like Lenin in every county in America if you want to see what true idolatry looks like.
The sources of our deficit in convenient graph form:
[economistmom.com]
@GyoZA:
I think FC lives in North Dakota since it is the one state I know of doing alright. I live in Texas and we have a terrible deficit, but we are doing better than other large states like California and Illinois (and I voted Dem for governor this year).
As for the deficit you are right that Bush sucked at that, but if we are looking at it from an ideological rather than partisan basis a big part of why he sucked is he did not adhere to the small giv side of conservatism (Medicare Part D, starting an optional war, refusing to pursue entitlement reform.)
And lets not let Obama off the hook deficit wise ([bit.ly]) either.
Finally I agree the Republicans have a hero worship problem with Reagan, like the Dems do with FDR who was help up as a shining example of how to be a good wartime president in contrast to evil ole Bush years even though FDR took all the folks with Japanese ancestry and stuck them in f*cking camps!
If it is ok with everyone (Otto, FC, you) I would like to call a truce since this conversation has moved beyond the original birther topic, nobody else cares, and I am a little hung over.
Barack Hussein Obama can walk on water and if you disagree with that you’re racist.
Love watching the Left contradict themselves and look stupid every time they open their mouths.
You folks would be better off if you just stayed quiet.
Otto, seek help dude.
Baraq, you should really just stop. You look like a bigger doofus with each comment.
How did Otto contradict himself?
The topic was Birther racism and he provided examples. He then thought that Tacos was saying both sides do it and complaine about that. The fact that Otto addressed the subject at hand is not at all the same as saying he too changed the subject.
Not sure Otto needs any help – seems to be doing just fine here on his own.
Otto, stop now man. You are losing quickly, and painfully
Remember the old saying, “it’s better to let people think you are an idiot, then to open your mouth and prove it”?
“You are losing quickly, and painfully”
Really? Which argument are you reading?
Just re-read it, and I’m genuinely confused about the conservative high-fives here at the end. Maybe you have to be retarded to see the victory.
“1)But whatever — find me a single Democratic leader, just one, who has given even a shred of credibility to the truther assholes the way that Republicans have coddled the birthers.”
And right before Baraq al Bama posted this, Otto called out the idiot in his own party who said this, once, in a radio interview.
“2)Rationalize it however you want, but you’ve got a serious set of racists inside your party.”
And that’s true. Just this week we saw the head of the Orange County Republicans send out a picture of Obama as a chimp and an Oklahoma Republican say affirmative action was a bad idea because all blacks are lazy. As Bill Maher said, “Not all Republicans are racists, but if you’re a racist, you’re likely a Republican.”
“3)And frankly, if the rest of the Republicans who aren’t racist don’t want to be lumped in with this group — which, you know, represents half the Republican Party according to the latest polls…”
Again, this was a recent poll. And we have other recent polls, like the one of Mississippi Republicans, of whom half think interracial marriage should still be against the law.
Come on, help me out. How does all this add up to a conservative win? Do I have to be brain-damaged to see it, or does huffing glue help?
“Really? Which argument are you reading?”
This one. Which one are you reading?
Son, if you can’t figure it out yourself, then you’re going to get left behind.
Take a cue for Otto and quietly disappear.
“As Bill Maher said, “Not all Republicans are racists, but if you’re a racist, you’re likely a Republican.”
I guess both you and Bill conveniently forgot that there is a member of the KKK in the Democratic party. See, this is why the Left should stay quiet. The more they talk, the more they are exposed
No, Bill Maher and I are smart enough to know that the former member of the Klan that you’re talking about died last year.
What was that thing you said about how it was better to stay quiet and be thought a fool rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt? (Oh, right, you said “then” instead of “than” too. Way to show you’re an idiot in two different subjects.)
And it’s “take a clue from” not “for.”
Are you the “Get a Brain, Morans” guy? I love your mullet, man.
*cue
But you could use a clue, too.
At least you’re not the guy here posting as “Baraq al Bama” wondering why people think some conservatives are racist. I guess the name “Martin Luther Coon” was already taken?
So because the guy died, that automatically eliminates the fact that members of the KKK where in the Democratic Party? Sorry son, but I’m sure Rev Wright is still alive, and while he isn’t a politician, I know of a politician who holds that man in high regard. Let’s face it, if the Left had to use facts, they would never been allowed to talk
Furthermore If the best thing you have is a simple slip up on the keyboard, then you are as mentally incapable of winning this argument as Otto is. Of course, if I didn’t know how many letters are in the word “jobs”, or thought there were 57 States, then maybe you’d have a point. Oh wait, who said those little gems?
Bryan, like Otto, you are out of your league. Beat it.
It’s really hard to decide who won this argument.
The Democrats seem to have done well because they have a lot of facts, figures, and polling data on their side.
But Big Bill insists the Republicans have mopped the floor with them because shut up, that’s why.
Also, very brave to leap into an argument three days after everyone else left. I bet you kicked ass in the Super Bowl last June.
