I know this is a popular theme on the right, but frankly, it’s bullshit. No one’s saying that opponents of the Affordable Care Act are racist, and no one’s saying that people who don’t support Obama’s call to end tax subsidies are racist.

But if an opponent of Obama’s still persists in believing that Obama was not really born in America -— despite the official birth certificate, despite the long-form birth certificate, despite the announcements in both Hawaii newspapers that were based on that week’s hospital records, despite the affadavits from the doctor’s family and others who remember the birth, despite the INS records of his father that listed the place of birth, and despite the review and judgment in 2008 of the state’s governor, secretary of state, and head of the department of health (all Republicans, mind you) that Obama was incontrovertibly born in Hawaii -— then yes, that person is a racist. Plain and fucking simple.

And frankly, if the rest of the Republicans who aren’t racist don’t want to be lumped in with this group — which, you know, represents half the Republican Party according to the latest polls? — then they should fucking denounce them. They shouldn’t pull this shit that Boehner did about how “people can believe whatever they want to believe.” McCain was man enough to tell that woman in the 2008 campaign that Obama was an American, and the rest of these sackless clowns can too.

First I am not a republican (more libertarian), second lots of folks on the right are happy to call birthers loons. Third, I get your point but those polls are notoriously inaccurate given they also showed that 51% of Democrats were considered truthers at one point ([politi.co]). And given the fact that MSNBC has the most birther coverage of the major networks ([bit.ly]) it does appear that there is an effort on the left to keep the issue live.

Other than what this issue says about the US as a whole, this really hasn’t been that big of an issue. This hasn’t really gotten THAT much mainstream media coverage, it just seems like it. And when I feel like when the media does cover it, they’re trying to say “hey look, there really are people this retarded out there”, but it has the opposite affect.

I’m actually happy I can go to a website and talk about the philosophical/social implications of an issue like this, rather than it’s merits. It’s hard to find diversity in opinions when we all just go to our own ideologically similar news blogs. I remember when all those Democrats in Congress and all those Democratic state legislatures introduced all those 9/11 Truther bills. It really was just as big a deal as the birthers. Exactly the same.

And of course that poll about 51% of Democrats was accurate. That’s why all the other polls showed the same thing and all the Democratic candidates for president made such a big deal out of it during the 2004 campaign. And Joe Lieberman, the Democrats’ last VP nominee kept talking about it.

You completely didn’t get what I was trying to say. I never insinuated anything about the Tea Party or the birthers. I don’t even like talking about the former. I’m just saying that if Obama REALLY wants to get re-elected, he should have held onto the birth certificate thing until late in the game and dropped it like the Hammer of Thor, thereby creating a an upward swing in popularity at an opportune time instead of 18 months out. Also, there is no comments section on Drudge Report. God, wouldn’t that be something to witness though.

Note: On a serious note, I am a fiscal conservative with Libertarian ideals from a very, very red state that votes almost entirely Republican and is basically the only state in the country working with a budget surplus. So, that’s the basis of why I’m not a big fan of Obama. I do not agree with many of his beliefs and his programs do not and will not benefit me to a degree in which I can defend him, much less vote for him. I’m a “to each their own” kind of person. If you want to vote for the guy, fine. If you want to worship him like a God, OK then. But I really, really hate when people break me and others down to “stupid racist conservatives” because we don’t agree with the president’s policies and ideals.

And yes, I worship Obama like a god because I’m a figment of your imagination.

I think FC lives in North Dakota since it is the one state I know of doing alright. I live in Texas and we have a terrible deficit, but we are doing better than other large states like California and Illinois (and I voted Dem for governor this year).

As for the deficit you are right that Bush sucked at that, but if we are looking at it from an ideological rather than partisan basis a big part of why he sucked is he did not adhere to the small giv side of conservatism (Medicare Part D, starting an optional war, refusing to pursue entitlement reform.)
