Game of Thrones (HBO, Sunday) — Series premiere. Given the hype and the rave reviews that are already rolling in, you can expect to see Sir Pantsalot photoshopped into a lot of images in the coming weeks. I could nit-pick a lot of things about George R.R. Martin’s first novel in the series, but I’ll give him this: dude has BALLS when it comes to killing off characters. Don’t get too attached to anyone.
Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe (USA, Sunday) — Bruce Campbell gets a two-hour spin-off prequel movie. Spin-off prequel movie. I’m having a tough time wrapping my head around that term.
Audrina (VH1, Sunday) — Series premiere. Do I want to have intercourse with Audrina? Yes, absolutely. Do I care about any other detail of her boring life? Absolutely not. Other reality shows premiering on VH1 Sunday: Mob Wives and Saddle Ranch.
The Ricky Gervais Show (HBO, Friday) — Season finale. It’s not my thing — I don’t understand why Ricky Gervais needs to look like Fred Flintstone — but it’s better than whatever’s on Syfy.
Friday Night Lights (NBC, Friday) — Season premiere. I’m tempted to jump in and watch Season 5, but I’ve only watched Season 1 and parts of Season 2. What do you people think I should do? I mean, besides post more pictures of dogs.

Huge FNL fan. Season 4 introduces all the new characters that are the main cast of season 5. Not to say you couldnt pick up on it, but you’d be missing a lot of foundation. S3 was incredible but most of that cast has turned over so you’d just be missing out on good television, not important plot points.
What should you do? Rewatch Season 2 of The Wire and high five your best friend when Ziggy loses his mind.
Skip the rest of S2 FNL, and I’d watch 3,4,5. Agree with Mike, Season 4 is really all you need for Season 5, but the whole impact of the school change doesn’t hit unless you’ve seen 3. 3 and 4 are both on Netflix Instant btw.
You should set your DVR to start recording so when you’re caught up on your marathon of seasons 3 and 4 you can start right into 5. No need to finish season 2 really. It’s good but not amazing like every other season. Best show on tv.
@esseque — Funny you should say that, I’m actually in the middle of re-watching Season 2 of The Wire. Watching The Wire a second time takes precedence over watching FNL the first time.
That’s an absolute given.
Matt, The Wire is special, but so is FNL. If you’ve already seen The Wire and not FNL, then complete the latter. It’s your duty as a television blogger.
Actually, I haven’t seen The Wire in a long time. Maybe I’ll put the DVD on.
To everyone who is intrigued by Game of Thrones but is reluctant to watch due to its genre: I hate fantasy stuff (I didn’t even like Lord of the Rings), but I loved the books. So tune your ass in.
Of course, I also kinda liked The Paul Reiser Show, so you should probably ignore anything I say. Goddamn it.
Roman; apparently there is nudity and killing, so there’s that. I’ll tune in, but have had trouble tuning my ass in, since it seems to just make that loud trumpeting noise.
You forgot the season premiere of the final season of The Whitest Kids U’ Know on IFC this Friday 4/15.
Skim season 2, which is the weakest one and move on to season 3 which is excellent.
I say watch the 5th season of FNL. It’s really good. One of the best of the entire show.
Season 2 of FNL is awful. Skip ahead to 3, which is solid.
What is the ratio of cheerleader high kicks per episode?
1. Ive never seen FNL, and prob never will. I saw the movie and i think i get the whole thing from that. 2. i just finished watching The Wire for the first time, in a multi-day marathon filled with hungry howies pizza a monster. I have come to the conclusion that The Wire was indeed created by God, who simply inhabited David Simon’s body for the 5 seasons. 3. you were not joking at all Matt when you said dont get attached to characters in GOT. I’m already hooked on the show after this one episode from the great storyline and the glorious amount of tits. The sister fucking was an unexpected bonus.
Semper Fi
Season 1 of FNL was brilliant. Then I watched like the first few episode of season 2 and got completely bored, quit watching, and never came back. It was mostly the contrived and retarded murder plot that seemed so completely out of character with the ultra-realism of season 1 that turned me off.
People keep saying that it gets really good again with season 3, and I’m sure it does, but the first half of season 2 turned me off so much that I’ve yet to regain the interest to go back and watch them.
You forgot the season premiere of the final season of The Whitest Kids U’ Know on IFC this Friday 4/15.
Yeah…forgot. That’s it.
I took a burning shit during Game of Thrones. I win.
The first 10 episodes of Season 2 of FNL are not the best. Season 1 is by far my favorite season of anything ever. But I’m biased. I’m from Odessa, the town the book and movie portrayed. I hated the movie, HATED IT. I wasn’t going to watch the tv show and I watched the pilot and that was it. Best Pilot I’ve ever seen, ever.
Watch the last half of season 2, then go on to 3 and 4 and 5. 5 is rushed, but they only had 13 episodes, so I wont complain. The finale was fantastic.
Also, y’all hate Whedon, but love this guy for killing characters? Whedon pretty much wrote the book on killing EVERYONE
