The last time Jimmy Fallon brought out his impeccable Neil Young impression, he was joined on stage by Bruce Springsteen for a somber version of “Whip My Hair.” At the time, I didn’t think he could top a duet with the Boss, but last night’s performance proved me wrong: David Crosby and Graham Nash joined Fallon’s Young for a cover of Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the U.S.A.” (video embedded below)
On one hand, I don’t want to make too big of a deal out of this, because this is just a late-night entertainer pretending to be someone else singing a pop song performed by a 17-year-old moron. On the other hand, it’s flat-out of brilliant. When Miley sings “Party in the U.S.A.,” the verses are just filler until the big hook in the chorus, but when Fallon sings the first verse, he brings all the depressing gravity of a Neil Young song to it. It’s like, “Wow! It really is hard to arrive at LAX with just a dream and your cardigan.”

The cynical part of me thinks that Fallon chose to perfect his Neil Young impression precisely because you’ll never notice him stifling his laughter with that wavering voice.
I like to think he is mocking douchebags who will whip out a guitar at a party and do something like this seriously thinking they are being incredibly artistic…. I hate how douchebags will have no idea he is mocking them.
Holy shit, I really like that song. This one, not the Miley Cyrus version.
/looks for gun and single bullet
//damn, Fallon IS Neil Young
I’d watch American Idol next season if someone sang this version of the song. “Way to make it your own, dawg.”
Jimmy Fallon is this generation’s Rich Little.
Yeah… I don’t know if that’s a compliment or not, either.
Whenever Fallon does this it reminds me I need to listen to more Neil Young. Crosby and Nash, not so much.
That had no business being that good.
I’m more impressed with Pete Carroll’s impression of Nash there on the left.
What said dbag whips out his guitar and sings the tired song “Fallon laughs during skits”? We get it, not everyone hates it though and his inability to control himself actually makes him a really entertaining late night show host.
/slips in pile of poop as if it was a banana peel, doesn’t break character
Although I like Jimmy Fallon’s Neil Young so much more than I like Neil Young, this song isn’t the same without a 17 year old on a stripper pole.
That was amazing.
That’s the way.. “uh-huh..” B-I-N-G-O!!!!!!!!!!
That was just awesomesauce, as was his duet with (70′s) Springsteen a few months ago. Between the genius impressions (Trump, Sheen, Young, etc.) and the great sketches (Real Housewives of Late Night, 6Bee, Jersey Floor, and tons more) Jimmy is hosting the most enjoyable show in late night. Just pure fun.
