It's official: "Game of Thrones" is so awesome that I can no longer watch other television shows on Sunday nights. There's simply no way I could tolerate the slow pace or subtlety of "Treme" or "The Killing" after being treated to sixty minutes of unfiltered commercial-free ownage. Last night's episode (S1E5, "The Wolf And The Lion") was the season's best yet, featuring character development and scenes that weren't in George R.R. Martin's book, tight and efficient writing, and award-worthy acting. But who cares about that stuff? Here are JUST THE BADASS PARTS:
- A knight, frustrated at losing a jousting match, decapitates his horse with a broadsword. I've got a GIF of it on the next slide, and I've watched it about 700 times now.
- Two graphically violent melees.
- Two scenes with whorehouse nudity, including full-frontal shots of dong and ladyparts (NSFW screencap here).
- A dwarf bludgeoning a man to death with a shield.
- Dragon skulls in a castle's dungeon. That's right: DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS.
- Mountaintop prison cells where the fourth "wall" is a precipitous drop off a cliff (banner image).
- A knife through a character's eye.
And that list doesn't even include the "WHOA!" moments of a six-year-old boy breastfeeding from his crazy mother or the scene where the gay knight shaves his lover's chest then noisily fellates him (those don't exactly qualify as "badass" in my book). But taken as a whole, nothing on television provides such an ass-kicking visual feast. Enjoy some violent and bloody GIFs and screencaps on the following pages.

I wish the The Mountain had said “nice shoes asshole” before he went off and beheaded his horse.
And my wife cringed at the chest shaving scene more than she did during the bad ass parts. Hoo boy……
I jumped out of my chair when I saw the horse scene. Im sold. Holy shit, I laughed my ass off.
Game of Thrones is so awesome, I started watching Camelot to try to get another fix during the week.
I’m wondering why the Imp didn’t pull a Dave Chapelle. “Please believe me! Please BELIEVE ME!”
Also, the conversation between Baelish and Varys about the services provided at the whore house (fresh corpses, young boys) was super creepy.
Did anyone else want a glass of milk after the breast feeding scene?
In case it needed to be said, Camelot is nowhere near as cool. It has nudity, but everyone is staying intact. In summary: dire wolves > poison.
“Then when he’s not expecting it … bam! … the ol’ fork in the eye!”
That’s some cold shit, Jaime…
Just wait until it gets to the…well, people who’ve read the book know what I’m talking about.
Actually, they probably don’t. There’s alot of really cool/shocking moments to come.
(*sighs*) Anybody else miss Barbaro?
My avatar hasn’t been showing up because I’ve spelled my email address wrong twice today. I’m going back to bed.
Does anyone who read the book remember Renly being gay? I don’t…maybe my ability to pick up on subtle homosexual subtext isn’t as strong as it once was.
Damnit, I cancel HBO then this happens. The Killing is killing me, I can’t watch the slow motion dimness any more. I now hate all the characters.
Renly was always described as loving the finest fabrics, and later, in Clash of Kings, instated his Rainbow Guard after his allegiance to Highgarden and the Tyrells (which happens to be Loras’s family, despite the marriage to Margaery). Cersei also made comments about Renly to Loras in Feast for Crows. It’s not strongly portrayed in Game of Thrones, but Cersei later all but calls him teh gay.
The headline made me think this post was about Top Chef Canada.
@bloodfart. Ah. I’m finishing Clash of Kings now, I didn’t think I remembered outright gayness. I thought it was HBO loving it’s gay material a little too much again (Omar comin’, yo).
Not that there’s anything wrong with it…
I swear Jamie’s face needs a caption of U MAD? under it.
sunday night is what i look forward to every week, game of thrones and the borgias. i like the borgias, but game of thrones is kicking so much more ass. this week they out did themselves. i nearly came when the mountain decapitated that horse
“I don’t want to pay for it.”
“Then get a wife.”
That exchange made me guffaw. The horse killing made me curse out loud at my television. I also really liked the scene between the King & Queen. It made them both so much more human.

I haven’t read the books, but at this point, I’m hoping that Ned Stark’s tomboy daughter is the one who kills Pretty Boy Lannister.
@Superfan- thank you for this wonderful gift. I plan on using it today.
@Otto – that would kick ass, either him or Joffrey.
That said, I could watch the gif of Tyrion bludgeoning that guy with a shield for hours.
I’m hoping Joffrey dies in an even more humiliating way. Ass-raped by a dire wolf, or something.
I dunno… Even Elton John thought that one scene was a little TOO gay.
Couldn’t get into this episode even though there were some awesome scenes. Exciting bits but just soooooo much talking and so many characters who all look the same.
Can’t wait for the new round of Got Milk ads starring Lady Arryn & son. Damn that was weird.
I’m always hesitant to comment on these (book 3 veteran) but Kal, Lady Arryn is crazy batshit fucking loco. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
@Old Fashioned – No, I don’t think HBO was thrusting the gay agenda on us via Renly and Loras.
@Otto – That would be amazing if Arya put Joffrey to the sword, but it’s not as embarrassing as what happens to that little Aryan abomination
@Jeteyes- Haha..can’t wait. Need to get my hands on the books.
Highlight so far was was when that blonde Targaryen worm said “Now you’ve awoken the dragon!” last week. Only to be jewelry bitch slapped into submission by his sister.
I really liked your article and I shared with my friends in my facebook account ..
This is a nice site and I wanted to post a note to let you know, good job!
Great article, lots of smart tips. I am going to show my buddies and ask them what they
think.
Hey blogger, thnx for delivering this important article! I found it great. May god bless you,
!!
I really hope there are no more noisy felating scenes. And what was Prince Flowers shaving him with, peanut butter?
I really thought Ned Stark was going to die. Someone warned me not to get too close to any character. Please be Joffrey…
Clearly, Jaime Lannister is my favorite. He engages in twincest (the ultimate conceit), has a face that belongs on an SS recruitment poster, and is the only person who’s fond of the midget. He reminds me so much of myself.

//ok, well kind of
In Storm of Swords Jaime actually threatens Loras with putting his sword “somewhere in him even Renly never found”. The homosexual overtones around those 2 characters is very clear throughout much of the story but was not present in the first book really. I think HBO just couldn’t pass up something so juicy, and since it does belong to the story I am sure George RR had no problem with that as a plot point.
