You know how there are always news stories about people hosting “Mad Men”-themed parties with martinis and chicks in pearls and dudes in suits? I’d like there to be a wave of “Breaking Bad” parties. You just don’t see enough casual meth use. Or at least I don’t. My friends are all lame.
Feel free to discuss the Season 4 premiere of “Breaking Bad” in the comments — especially the shocking act of violence that concludes the episode. (NOTE: that’s just a hunch, not a spoiler.)
UPDATE: Now with a screencap from last night’s episode. In case you’re looking for a GIF wall of the tense, transfixing, gruesome climax, that would be here.

Also, you don’t see ugly people use New Mexico-themed avatars on Twitter. What gives?
my guess is that jesse missed the shot, gail grabbed the gun and killed jesse…then brutally murdered walt, gus, and mike.
the new season is about gail taking over the new mexican and regular mexican meth business
just watched “half measures” and “full measures” again and got my self properly excited (aroused?) for the premier
Ran thru whole 3rd season this weekend (never watched it).
Full Measures was effin sweet.
/any of y’all want a bump?
Gus is so fucking metal
Raise your hand if you saw that coming.
(my hands are politely in my pocket)
I thought Mike was gonna get killed (not really sure what he did to deserve it, but figured it’d be shocking enough). Love the fact that Gus said 5 whole words that entire scene.
GUS AIN’T CARE
kill boner
This is what Obama is going to do to Hope Solo when they get back. BOX CUTTER TO THE NECK
I think you could barely make out the remanence of a spine in the barrel as they sealed it up
Promotional consideration provided by Denny’s.
They should write Hank to be more like Will Farrel’s character from Wedding Crashers. “Wife! Where’s the Poop Pan!?” “Fuck!”
So seriously… why did Gus take out Victor?
Maybe Victor got slit because he showed his face at the crime scene? Or Gus was so pissed he just did in the closest person he could?
I don’t know, but it was metal.
Had to watch Half and Full Measure to prime for the premiere. Well shit, looks like Gus can get dirty once in a while, if only to teach Walt and Jesse a lesson. Glad to have BB back.
No, I’m bidding on a mineral…
Big season for weird Hank.
Gus cain’t get dirty, hence the HazMat suit.
I love this show more than my children but I was surprised that Walt talked so much during the Gus scene. Begging didn’t really make sense. It might have cooler to see the whole thing play out in silence.
Good thing Denny’s sponsored this show, when I get a Grand Slam my shit looks like Victor after a few hours in the acid tank.
There could be several reasons as to why Gus killed Victor. Maybe because he did a terrible job keeping the situation under control and Gale was killed on his watch. Maybe because he showed his face in the crime scene. Maybe because he was trying to show Walt and Jesse a lesson. Maybe to make Walt and Jesse believe that Walt’s the only cook left so they’ll feel safe and not do anything until Gus can figure out what to do with them.
It goes on and on!
I’ve seen many on-screen deaths in my day, but that was the sweetest.
I just remembered at the end, they showed Gale’s lab notebook in his apt as the cops were going through it. A good chemist like Gale will have super detailed notes on what he was doing experimentally, so the cops are gonna know he cooked and there might be a trail.
I like to think this meeting happened:
AMC Exec: Your show might win Emmy’s but the only way to be profitable in today’s climate is to embrace product placement.
Vince Gilligan: Okay, a Sony Vaio will cover a crippled dude’s cock while he shits into a bedpan, then the two meth dealers will go eat at Denny’s after disposing of a body.
I liked the part where the violence was shocking and unexpected!
Meh
My first thought was that Gus killed Victor for tampering with the equipment. There was something about the look Victor gave Gus when he first came into the lab that said he was doomed. I was almost sure Mike was going to kill him earlier too.
My thinking was that if Gus felt like Victor could do Walt’s job he surely would have killed Walt for killing Gail, who Gus probably took a lot of time and trouble to find. Gus knows there’s more to it than just “following a recipe”. Showing up at Gail’s apartment and letting the situation spiral out of control in the first place didn’t help his cause either.
Is it me or did Anna Gunn gain a shit ton of weight in between seasons? Her fat face was literally taking me out of the moment in its discontinuity with season 3.
No she deffinately gained a shit load of weight. I completely agree. I was like, did I miss something? Is she pregnant again? WTF, she used to be hot. Surprised they let that fly for the sake of the show. Deffinately throws you off, not to mention an eye sore.
I saw the hit coming but it didn’t make it any less awesome. Nice touch jerking his head back so the blood would spray cleanly into the air. The audience appreciates nuance like that.
What are the odds the DEA thinks Gale is Heisenberg?
Oh, we’re going to need a gif of Walt at Denny’s, in the Kenny Rogers t-shirt.
GIF wall: LIKE A BOSS.
Jesus…Gus killed Victor because he showed his face at the crime scene..Not sure how people didn’t see that coming. He was going to kill someone and it obviously wasn’t going to be Walt or Jesse.
Victor starting cooking because he knew he was screwed for showing his face at the scene and Gus would rather take out Walt and Jesse if Victor could do the cooking.
Sincerely yours,
Captain Obvious
What are the odds the DEA thinks Gale is Heisenberg?
If anything gets Hank walking again, this lab notebook is it. Or an HJ from Marie.
If anything gets Hank walking again, this lab notebook is it.
As someone at Alan Sepinwall’s blog put it, Stringer Bell would’ve been really disappointed in Gale.
“Are you taking notes on a criminal fucking conspiracy?!”
Oh Gale. A nerd til the end.
By the way, kinda a big transformation from Jesse bawlin’ like a baby shooting Gale to inhaling hotcakes and nonchalantly discussing the group’s “understanding” don’t you think?
I noticed that too, LTF. Jesse seemed to be spaced out and totally lost until Victor got iced. He didn’t even have any dialogue until that point. I think Jesse my finally be embracing his inner evil.
I thought Jesse may have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but maybe he is just embracing his inner evil now.
@Otto I believe what Stringer said was
“Nigga, is you taking notes on a criminal fucking conspiracy?”
You can think of stars being there if you are sensitive..
Wow, what a piece of shit.
Heisenberg talking science was douche chilling.
20 mins of skylar, didn’t we establish we hated her in the first season, you are not convincing me to like her.
Lets feel bad about Hank.
Ghey
What?? Unbelievably tense atmosphere.. thought it was brilliant.
If anyone thinks it’s moving to slow just remember last season.. started out the same way.
@Steven b: Douche chilling?
Steven B., I have some bad news. The results are back, and you’ve got a case of what we in the medical community like to call “the dumb brain”
Wtf, they use meth in that show? God, spoiler alert next time. You totally ruined it for me.
@rumpleforeskin Gus killed Victor because he failed, not because people saw his face. How would Gus even know people saw his face? Vic told Mike he was just “another lookie loo”, he didn’t tell him the truth about going into the apartment. Seems like a big leap in logic that A: Mike would even say anything about it to Gus on the phone and B: Gus would take such a heavy handed action with such little information. And if Gus was concerned over people seeing Victor’s face, why would Victor think cooking would make any difference?
Gus killed Victor because Victor failed, pure and simple. He was in charge of keeping Gale (Gail?) safe, Gale got killed, and firing people isn’t really how drug kingpins do business. Victor started cooking because he knew he failed, and if he could show that he could cook, Gus would kill Walt, Victor would replace Gale, and the failure would be forgiven, or at least ignored. But Gus needs a cook that knows what he’s doing, and I believe he sees failure as an unforgivable sin.
Gus killed Victor because Victor didn’t care/understand about keeping the product “pure” and I think Gus liked Gale
nvm me, what Larry said
And by like I mean he wanted him to come inside
Larry,
To your second point I think we both agree that Victor starting cooking because he knew he was fucked. Why he killed him is probably a combination of 1)he allowed Gale to get shot 2) he was seen…If he being seen had nothing to do with him getting killed, why would the writers even have him tell Mike he was seen at the crime scene right before he gets on the phone to talk to Gus? We didn’t hear the Mike convo with Gus, but you would have to assume he told him that Victor was seen given the conversation we had just heard.
Eitherway you knew Victor was getting killed. Someone had to and it wasn’t going to be the main characters or Mike.
o man Jessee will be a badass!! like Darth Vader.
i’ll request my lolipop when the time’s right since I was the first one 2 see it cummin
“Or an HJ from Marie.”
What guy over the age of 17 gets out of bed for an HJ? Meh, Hank will take a pass.
It seems more likely that he killed him because he spent his time learning the recipe instead of monitoring Walt/Gale (as he was instructed to do). If he planned on killing him before he got there, he would have brought something to do the job.
