FX has placed a 13-episode order for “American Horror Story,” a drama starring Dylan “Handsome Schwimmer” McDermott, Connie Britton, and Jessica Lange, and created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the team responsible for “Glee” and “Nip/Tuck.”
Described as a psychosexual thriller, American Horror Story centers on a therapist (McDermott) and his wife (Britton) who, dealing with the aftermath of the husband’s adultery, move along with their kids into a new house that seems to know all about their fears and plays on them… In creating the show, Murphy and Falchuk took inspiration from classic 1970s horror movies, including Rosemary’s Baby, Don’t Look Now and The Shining. When I was a lot younger, I thought haunted house stories were stupid. “Why don’t they just move to a different house?” I always said. When you’re an adult, they make a lot more sense. If I could afford a house with high ceilings, good light, a big kitchen, two sinks in the master bathroom, and it was located in a good school district… I’d take my chances with supernatural forces trying to kill me. I’d be like, “F**k you, ghosts. This kitchen has an island.”

Don’t forget about the bidet
Great, now I have a boner at work. Thanks, Connie.
Also, don’t forget about the granite counter tops.
“Awww, come on, ya’ll!!! Ghosts?!”
This sounds like something that would work well as a miniseries, but a series with no definite end? Not so much.
And if I’m going to deal with ghosts, there better be two ovens in that kitchen.
“Classic 1970′s horror movie” Rosemary’s Baby came out in 1968.
“Is that a Gazebo with a floating severed head?”
“Why yes, yes it is. It really ads to the aesthetic of the Koi pond filled with the blood of sacrificed children.”
To piggyback off of jedman, The Shining came out in 1980.
When God was passing out looks, [picks random commenter] donturtuccio thought they said “books,” and said “Gimme a horror story.”
The handsome schwimmer line was inspired
The 70′s lasted from late ’67 until 1985. It’s still the 70′s in places like Buffalo and Kansas City. I see no problem here.
Bitches n’ Blue Steel? No….Blue Steel n’ Bitches. Yeah. That works.
I am putting the first 6 episodes of this on my Definitely To Watch List….
Then it will immediately go into the “Ryan Murphy show that was really really good for a very short period of time” bin.
