A show that looks very similar to “The Office” is coming to Afghanistan’s Tolo TV:
Instead of following the employees of the fictional Dunder-Mifflin paper company, “The Ministry” follows the everyday life of the officers at the Ministry of Garbage, including a sleepy security guard, underappreciated butler, man-hating secretary, and bumbling Minister.
The show is shot in the same way “The Office” is, using what appears to be a single-camera set up and the look of an actual documentary. [WaPo via TDW]
There aren’t a whole lot of punchlines in the trailer, but several of the scenes have funny premises. It may not be a worthy successor to “The Office” (British or American), but Afghanistan is clearly making better progess with TV than with democracy.

You know what would make a great character for this show? A handsome American tank commander.
Everyone in that video is funnier than Pam and Jim.
I think the minister saying he and his wife are equally powerful was supposed to be a punchline, though the lack of slide whistle has me confused.
See, this is humiliating. The people of Afghanistan created a show that emulates an award winning British television series. Here in the United States we’re hard at work turning the board game Battleship into a movie.
“That’s what she said…..after I allowed her to speak.”
Cursor, I assume you saw the trailer? Oof.
That was a pretty funny trailer.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a group of people from a country that doesn’t understand how to flush a toliet trying to do Gervais jokes but can you honestly tell me that this is less entertaining than Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?
Seems more similar to the British show The Thick of It
