Good morning, GloMos. I hope the new look here isn’t too jarring for anybody. In the event that you’re horribly discombobulated, allow me to walk you through some of the changes.
- New header! We revamped the logo to look a little less crappy. If I get my way, it’ll get one more little tweak before all’s said and done.
- Navigation bar/featured posts. Underneath the new Uproxx navigation bar is a secondary nav bar with popular tags. That will be refined in the coming days, so if there’s a tag you want up there, let us know.
- New social media buttons. We now have Tumblr and Google+ buttons to go with the Twitter and Facebook ones. I know that some of you are annoyed by the way social media is constantly encroaching on your web reading, but sharing stories you like gets daddy fed. So please, like and tumbl and tweet and +1 the sh*t out of things you enjoy here.
- Goodbye, purple sidebars. Aw, I liked the purple. All this white space gives me e-goraphobia.
- Wider pictures! You will now enjoy Lobster Dog & Co. in panoramic vistas of 650 pixels across, rather than the antiquated 600 pixels of yesteryear.
- Author signature/tags. Not only can you now see WHO writes a particular post more easily, you can also click on the name and see all of that author’s articles. It’s a great way to filter out the other writers who aren’t me.

As I said on Filmdrunk: I don’t care for the new layout, but at least you didn’t go all gawker on us.
I’m willing to bet the uproxx readers will adjust much better than Gawker readers did. As for this layout, Matt, everything you chose looks great.
Oh and this is a complaint held over from the last layout. The sound ads that randomly blast me when I load a page need to go. I dont want to disable ads and scripts on the page because I know that if they don’t load you dont get paid, but I don’t like getting sound assaulted by Dylan Dog or some other bullshit.
Once my eyes adjust to the bright white background I’ll be o.k.
Question: why did you lose the purple sidebars while KSK got to keep the dark gray sidebars?

I like the update, but I enjoyed it when each site had its own unique color (filmdrunk green, WG purple, GammaSquad newborn-baby-blue), would it be a problem for each site to have its own color instead of the white?

I’m apparently still not allowed to have an avatar. I second (third?) the extreme whiteness, but I’ll get over it.
As long as you didn’t shit the bed like Deadspin did with its redesign, we’re cool.
That said, I did like the color-coding on the sidebars.

@The Hammer: I’m fine with the new layout (it’s always weird when things change), but I agree with you about Gawker–their redesign sucks worse than Sarah Palin. Commenting doesn’t work right, it’s ugly, it doesn’t show up right in mobile browsers, and it’s confusing to navigate. This design seems to be about having some continuity between Uproxx pages (a good thing); Gawker’s was about… well, I’m still not sure. Alienating long-time readers/commenters? Specifically pissing me off? Losing readership?
I was told there would be chicken nuggets.

I agree with Papa Bear. All the sites look the same now. It’s not distracting other than a lack of character. Looks nice though. It’d be even nicer without all the bullshit ads on the sidebars and pop-ups that wont go away when i’m trying to look at corgis and tits.
Looks fine to me. One thing, though – on my mobile phone (Droid) all the comments are in CAPS.
Is unified log-in planned? It’s kind of weird that I log in to Filmdrunk but not here.
Also this is just the self-entitled internet user in me, but any chance of a mobile theme? Nothing fancy, just something that fits on my phone.
Don’t take it the wrong way, but all this white space is like staring into a god damn lightbulb. Any chance they can tone down the white space?

One side benefit of the white is that it looks less like I’m dicking around on the internet from a distance than purple. There’s really no business reason to have anything purple on your screen so this could be a good thing.
Is it just me or is the “Most Shared Stories” pic Alison Brie 80% of the time?
Because I get the sense that they know what would make me most likely to click it.
Agree on the white. I don’t care about color-coding…it’s really not that hard for me to figure out what site I’m on…so they can all match, just pick something less white. Otherwise I like it.
Once upon a time Gawker changed their layout and the entire world hated it. Then Uproxx said to himself “hey I know let’s make the entire world hate our new layout, it worked for Gawker.” The end.

These comments are bringing to light so many things I never even noticed. I judge a website by the content of it’s character and not by the color of its graphics (and boobs, I like sites with boobs.)
The pages will not stop loading, here or FD or any Uproxx site. I had one open in a tab for almost an hour and it never stopped. Unruly ad servers maybe?
I’d add some more gray to the background, this full on white is hurting my eyes
less super white background…also, I think the banner should look more in the style of Goodfellas with the different Corgis Henry and Tommy and Lobster Dog in the Jimmy spot
Opening a story in a tab takes a bit longer to load now, causing my laptop to freeze, but the main page is much quicker to load.
Otherwise, it is not as bad as I feared it would be.

What Brendan up there said. I go through a daily list of sites, and when they all look the same, it’s pretty boring. The sidebars don’t even have to be bright purple or green or blue whatever, just y’know a hint. Off-blue, off-green, something so that when I scroll down past where the logo is, I will still know what site I’m on.

PLEASE get rid of the auto-playing video pop-ups!! I, like every other degenerate on this site, read this site at work. Having ultra loud pop-ups for whatever movie-of-the-week your site is hawking is incredibly annoying. I know you have to pay the bills somehow, but these auto-playing videos are killer.

I bet whoever got rid of the sidebars was colorblind. I have to say, like others, that it was a great visual cue while I was mired deep in the comments as to which one of the sites I was on.
Change? Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! But yeah its fine. Everyone will get use to it and not care at all shortly. Plus, I like the navigation bar. And its not Gawker so stop comparing it. Also, Gawker’s fine now and I don’t think less commenters is actually a bad thing, in my humble yet brilliant opinion. In conclusion, nice digs Uff.
I don’t mind most of the navigational changes, but I do miss the uniquely colored backgrounds that used to separate the uproxx pages from each other.
