FACT: Former head of NBC Sports Dick Ebersol was terrible at his job for DECADES, which is why NBC finally fired the fish-mouthed Retardo Montalban in May. But for reasons that none of us will ever be stupid enough to understand, NBC has rehired him as a “special adviser” to the network.
He is expected to have a role working with the team producing NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football, which begins next Thursday with the season opener between New Orleans and Green Bay, the past two Super Bowl winners.
Mr. Ebersol, under the title of senior adviser, is also being brought back to contribute to the production of the event most closely associated with him, the Olympics. He will join the NBC production team in an advisory role for the 2012 summer games in London. [NYT Media Decoder]
What the hell’s he gonna do for Sunday Night Football? Show it on tape-delay? Add more studio analysts? Change the game to baseball? God I hate this A-hole.

This completely explains the recent “exciting” commercials for the MLS on NBC.
I never realized how much Ebersol looks like Dr. Zaius until now.
Tiki is still looking for a job, isn’t he?
he must have incriminating photots of whoever hired him back.
@Otto, rock me Dr.Zaius.

I’m almost envious as to how executives in the entertainment industry can fail upwards. I need a career change.
He looks like when Bilbo goes mental for a second after Frodo’s ring
Well, thing is, they actually had ratings when he was with their sports department. But then they also had the NFL to hang their hat on. So they move the guy up the ladder and take a dump all over what got them there.
Don’t get me wrong: He’s an utter failure at running the big picture, but he was aight at running the sports shop.
@Homo — It was under Ebersol that NBC lost the rights to the NFL. He also overpaid for the Olympics by $200M, then wouldn’t air the events live IN THE SAME TIME ZONE WHERE THEY WERE OCCURRING. So tell me how that’s an all right job of running the sports shop.
UU, is “incriminating photots” photographs of people doing incredably wrong things with Tater-tots?
NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL FOR EVERYONE!
Well, obviously I’m talking out my @$$. I’m obviously remembering things wrong. I remembered NBC sports actually having things to show, then him moving up, and suddenly all they had golf, nascar, and the poorly advised XFL/Arena Football.
I retract my nonsense.
