Joel and Ethan Coen, who are brilliant amazing creative geniuses and I hate you if you disagree, are teaming up with Fox to create their first TV show.
Fox has given a script plus penalty commitment to Harve Karbo, an hourlong single-camera comedy project co-created by the Oscar-winning brothers Joel and Ethan Coen and Cedar Rapids writer Phil Johnson.
The Imagine TV project, the brothers’ first foray into television, revolves around a touchy Los Angeles private investigator — and his deadbeat friends in El Segundo — whose cases frequently force him to cross paths with a who’s who of Hollywood. [THR]
“Harve Karbo” is my new favorite show and I love it. I just really hope that a pilot gets greenlit and the pilot gets picked up for series and that the series doesn’t get canceled after two weeks like “Lone Star.” The future show that hasn’t been filmed yet and only exists in my head is just too good for that to happen.

It’s Da Fino the TV series!
This kinda, almost, but not really sounds like Terriers, because I latch on to the words “private investigator”, “California” and “deadbeat” and never let go.
Also, the Coen brothers are cool too.
Canceled in three episodes.
I’d be a lot more excited about this project if it were on AMC or HBO; Fox will probably insist on adding some kind of sassy sidekick and ruin it within the first few weeks.
Nice. I’m sure I’ll dig this shamus’ style – playing one side against the other, in bed with everybody – just fabulous stuff.
The last time the Coen Brothers made a detective/crime story we got No Country for Old Men, the last time they made a story about deadbeats and slackers they made Big Lebowski. Throw in some Miller’s Crossing gangsters and this shit is starting to look awesome.
The only way this works is if they air it on FX instead of Fox. The whole “crossing paths with the who’s who of Hollywood” probably won’t be enough to keep your average mouth-breathing American interested.
I don’t think I’ve ever been sad about the inevitable cancellation of a TV show before it’s even created.
Also, Donal Logue for the lead or GTFO.
Why? Why get my hopes up?
Just like every other hour long comedy it won’t last. America likes its comedy in half-hour format, also pandering to the lowest common denominator. Definitely won’t last more than a season.
OH MY GOD!! It’s gonna (sorta kinda) be The Big Lebowski TV Show (Almost maybe). I literally can not wait for this show to come on, and get cancelled, so I can have it on DVD and love it as much as I love Firefly after it’s cancellation.
Teaming up with fox? put it on FX…Hbo, AMC, and FX are the 3 best
Sucks cause I love the Coen Brothers, but my bets on the failing. 1. it’s on Fox (terrible tv shows) 2. it’s just a mix of Bored to Death (private investigator) and Entourage (Hollywoods who’s who)
