Jason Segel, the Muppets, and cameos by Paul Rudd and Olivia Wilde were enough to make this weekend's "Saturday Night Live" the highest-rated episode of the season, pulling in as many 18-49 viewers as the excellent Charlie Day
episode a few weeks ago. (Oh, and Florence + the Machine were there, too.)
Fittingly, the quality of the show matched Day's energetic performance as host. While I find the Kissing Family sketch to be insultingly stupid and cheap, I'll admit that there are probably Warming Glow readers who want to see Jason Segel's tongue in Paul Rudd's mouth. So there you go.
On the following pages are my favorite sketches of the night, including an '80s-hot Olivia Wilde and Segel's incredible Andre the Giant impression.
I've never not enjoyed the Muppets singing a song.
Nothing but masturbation jokes. I approve.
The only way this could be better is if it were Kermit and Tina Fey.
This is great. It probably wasn't worth building a full-length sketch around Segel's pitch-perfect Andre the Giant impression, but this is quirky enough to be funny without overstaying its welcome. One of the highlights of the night for me.

Statler and Waldorf should be on every episode.
I do not think Olivia Wilde and I are the same species.
@Burnsy, I was really let down by the lack of audience reaction to their appearance.
I would have freaked the fuck out. They’re on par with Kate Upton for things I would faint over if seeing them in person.
The andre the giant sketch actually came out of an improv bit at the UCB theater. But maybe they were waiting for segel and his andre the giant voice to pull it out.
@Burnsy
I think Disney or Universal Studios or one of those places used to have like this 3d Movie of the Muppets like YEARS ago and Statler and Waldorf were up in the balcony of the auditorium. That was when I discovered orgasms for the first time.
I love Ms. Wilde more than, well, more than most things on earth. But that was painful. Horribly horribly painful.
The Andre the Giant sketch seemed like something out of 30 Rock, and I loved it.
@brianjodoin
Hollywood Studios still has Muppet*Vision 3D. Its still amazing.
I remember in “I Love You Man” during the dinner scene, Segel busted out the impression, I was floored. He’s a great fit for the show
Strange concept that SNL has come up with this season. Funny people hosting = funny show….. Who would have thought Charlie Day and Jason Segel would be funnier than Miley Cyrus or Gwyneth Paltrow?
The Andre the Giant was astounding- the most surprising thing is the writers didn’t turn it into a 7 minute sketch with every cast member trying to shoe-horn an impression into the premise. Although I would have gladly listedn to Segal as Andrew the giant and Pharoa
Best of the night for me: AtG, my Wilde Olivia (ha haa) and sorry, but I really do like those kissing sketches. Watching Bill Hader spit gravy all over Andy Samberg’s face made me lose it. I’m sorry, I’m an idiot.
in the scene i saw it was a flashback explaining why a guy was late to a meeting – he was behind andre the giant in line for ice cream. was a throwaway there, too, and it worked.
yea Muppet Vision! I remember the thing that comes up from under the chairs to be a “mouse” and I thought i put my hand on it so I chucked it to the ground. Turned out to be my disposable camera. Boooooooooooo
And now they announced that on Dec 10 Katy Perry is hosting with Robyn as musical guest. Way to go SNL. Way to go.
“Dad, what’s a Muppet?”
@Tim the Statler and Waldorf appearance was actually pretaped with audience stand ins, that’s why there wasn’t much of a reaction
The Andre the Giant chooses ice cream sketch was incredible.
It was really dumb, but I liked the Regis and Kelly sketch…sorry, but the Denzel and Zooey impressions got to me. It was just an excuse for everyone to do an impression and it was like 2 minutes too long..but what else am I gonna do with my time?
This all sucks. HULU especially. I’m aware I’m outside the US, and we dont get saturday night live, but thats actually why I’m trying to watch it.
