When HBO released the first footage of “Game of Thrones’s” second season, my passion for the series was stoked to the point that I demanded the show start filming seasons back-to-back, Lord of the Rings-style.
With that in mind, BOOSH and/or KAKOW:
We are now hearing from multiple sources that HBO plans to order both seasons three and four and film them back-to-back (à la Lord of the Rings). It has already been confirmed that A Storm of Swords would be covered in more than one season. From what we have heard, much of the film crew in Northern Ireland has been told of this plan and has been advised to expect nine months of filming next year. [Winter is Coming]
So basically, Seasons 3 and 4 of the TV show will cover third book and carry the televised series into 2014. Most outlets are saying that this won’t become official until Season 2 begins in April, but this is still a step in the right direction. I just wish HBO would stop being coy and greenlight as many seasons as it takes to adapt George Martin’s novels. It’s not like violence and tits are going to go out of fashion in the next five years.

Tits and violence without Matt.

This blog needs more boosh and/or kakow. Don’t leave Matt.
Be still, my heart.
They will need two seasons to cover all the kick ass awesomeness in ASoS. I also read that the series might now be 8 books instead of 7.
Oh, hell yes! You definitely need two seasons to properly cover 900+ pages.
I’m right at the half-way point of the third book, and it feels like I’ve been reading it forever.
@Patty, my wife is currently reading it. Everyone I know who read it says it’s the best book of the series and I have to agree with them.
Of course they’re gonna keep it going. They would never cancel Game Of Throwns.
Yippee!! I may have to go back and watch that compilation of deaths video again.
Good move!!!
It’s smart to get Daenerys’ tits on video before they head south…….
…or does she die?
I have not read the books….
Book 3 is something special. So much great stuff happens and while reading there are so many moments you find your self pumped to see it in live action. Great series and Great TV is what A Song of Fire and Ice is. Hopefully the Just The Bad-Ass Parts will still happen after the show with Matt leaving, those were epic.
@Upstate Underdog – Agreed, on two season for A Storm of Swords. Holy crap that book is intense.
Although, I’m not sure how I feel about 8 books instead of 7. While I would love another book, all the waiting in between books is terrible.
*”Agreed on two seasons” that is… (I should really proof read my comments)
Storm of Swords makes Game of Thrones look like Twilight in comparison (must be noted that Game of Thrones makes Twilight look like a tumoric dog humping a dead possum though). But, I really, really hope this idea to start shooting also includes some sort a legal tie-in to Martin’s continued writing along the lines of “Hey, old sea-captain man, you don’t get to see any boobs until you finish that next book, got it?”
God that’s a quality Fuck Coach.
If book 3 gets two seasons than books 4 and 5 will be what, 4 seasons combined? So basically this show is going to be on HBO until I’m old enough to be offended by all the rapey/incesty scenes. Sweet.
Speaking of books 4 and 5, anyone else struggling with book 5? I had to stop reading when things got busy with work and now I can’t get back into it.
Book 5 wasn’t great, but it makes book 4 a lot better in retrospect…they seriously could cut a ton of ancillary crap out of 4 and 5 and make it one (slightly longer) season since they take place over the same time frame.
Book 4 and 5 should have been one book that’s like 1500 pages. Why does Martin include Davos? I can’t comprehend how that storyline ties into any characters other than Stannis? If he’s not in the show, that should save some time. The books carry many story lines out much longer than they need to be and the show should be able to cut them down.
Interesting regarding all the love for book 3. I’m plodding my way through the series for the third time or so and every time, that’s the book that bogs me down (although admittedly, the last two reads, books 4 and 5 weren’t released). I inevitably get enthralled in the various storylines just in time for me to reach a chapter titled “Daenerys”, and suddenly I’m bored again. The only chapters more tedious than hers are the “Samwell”s. Sure, lots of action happens, but the writing was much tighter in Book 1 than 3. It feels like as the series draws on, he’s more enamored with the number of words that can be used than ensuring that things don’t bog down on minutiae.
Ya know, GRRM is not a young dude. He needs to get to writing. That being said, I shall quote one of my favorite memes of the series:
Every time you ask when the next book is coming out, GRRM kills another Stark.
Would they end season 3 with the RW? Because there might be some serious riots.
what are these ‘book’ things everyone keeps talking about?
Milk, I think that would be the perfect place to end the season. It’s such a fatantastic WTF just happened? moment.
My wife saw Dinklage in NYC yesterday. This got me more excited than I can even say.
Milk Steak
Would they end season 3 with the RW? Because there might be some serious riots.
That would be freaking hilarious! “OMG!!! They killed my boy…HOLY SHIT!!! And her too??! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Have to agree about four and five. The content was great but the narrative structure left something to be desired. Hopefully they can fix that when they film the series. Maybe just go ahead and do everything chronologically. BTW it would be fucking AWESOME if they ended season 3 with the RW. Someone would have to make a YouTube video of the reactions of people who haven’t read the books.
