“South Park” will enter the rarefied air of two decades of longevity, as Comedy Central’s latest renewal will keep Trey Parker and Matt Stone in business for another three years of no-holds-barred juvenile satire beyond its current deal.
[Parker and Stone] have closed a new deal with Comedy Central for three more seasons of South Park. The pact will keep the series on through 2016, extending its run to 20 seasons. Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every episode of South Park, as they have since the series’ premiere in 1997. [Deadline]
I’ve been trying make myself have an opinion about this, but I just can’t conjure one up. Parker and Stone are absolutely fearless and should be celebrated for creating some of the edgiest satire on TV over the years, so in that regard this is great. On the other hand, I don’t find “South Park” as funny as a lot of other people do because I tend to get annoyed by the characters’ voices and the lousy animation. Yes, I understand that’s part of the show’s charm. Yes, I understand that the lousy animation allows for quick reactions to current events. Stop telling me why it’s great and let me have an opinion, okay? Why do people still try to change my mind about a show that I’ve watched on and off for the last 14 years?

Lousy animation and annoying voices got you before the “hammering the same joke over and over again” and “made every episode political instead of funny”?
South Park > The Simpsons
Like that truck ad, you just don’t “get it”….
This eases the pain from the news about “Community.”
BEEF CAKE! BEEF CAKE!
YAY.
But has it really been on the air that long? Now I feel old.
@loblaw–Well, I guess that’s my cue.
Personally, it’s a weird thing, but I see where Matt is coming from on this. I have the same problem with Always Sunny in Philly, Charlie Day’s voice irritates the crap out of me and I have a hard time getting past it to enjoy the humor. I respect the show and think it’s funny, but I can’t get past Day’s voice sometimes.
I’ve always thought South Park is one of the smartest comedies on tv and love that it will keep going, but I totally can see why Matt and others wouldn’t be able to get past its aesthetics.
Astonished pleasure.
There isn’t another show on television that threatens to put me in that state.
come on now matt, it gotten better animation wise. i mean how much can they change and it still be the same thing with out people getting all whiney?
I use South Park to help fill up space on our DVR so it doesn’t get overwhelmed by things like Gossip Girl and 5-Ingredient Fix, and I’m always pleased when one that I haven’t seen before shows up, but I never find myself actively hunting for it.
Also, I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who doesn’t enjoy Charlie Kelly’s voice. Personally, I’m smitten.
How can you not enjoy the voice that gave us “Dayman”?
So because one doesn’t like something or think it’s funny they don’t “get it”? Typical fanboy reaction/ justification/ rationalization.
So Parker and Stone are going to run their show into the ground? The Simpsons already did it.
I usually only get to southpark once I hear enough people say a certain episode is especially good(the shake weight being the most recent). I think Parker and Stone can be brilliant satirists but that doesn’t always go hand-in-hand with being funny. I’ll catch an episode and end up thinking- wow, that’s a brilliant take on xyz topic.. then flip the channel because I’m not laughing.
Eitherway it’s a show that deserves to be on the air so great for them.
Evidently when it comes to sarcasm, Moose doesn’t “get it”.
@Alcoholics Gratuitous
I see what you did there, but I think South Park only does 12 episodes a year.
Happy Burnsy.
Crappy animation? Look at the screen cap at the top of the story? Sure, it’s not Pixar beautiful, but it’s also a lot richer than Family Guy a lot of the time. I actually think the Set Design on South Park is good most of the time.
Saying the animation is crappy is just as lazy as TheSportsMachine saying that every episode is, ” political instead of funny”. We get it Matt and SportsMachine, you formed your opinions over the span of a few minutes several years ago and you’re afraid of change.
I really liked this season’s Broadway Bros episode.
Cool. I’ll go back to 2001, the last time I really watched this show, and tell myself that it’s still gonna be on. SWEET!
South Park is still frequently very funny, entertaining, and does a good job of making a point.
That said, on the episodes that miss, they aren’t just unfunny, but they are just painful to watch. WTF was even going on with the stupid Thanksgiving episode last week?
The thanksgiving episode was hilarious. Not only did it make fun of the Thor movie but rip History channel’s bullshit programming apart.
Yeah I just finally saw the Thanksgiving episode last night and I thought it was great. Kyle being referred to as the Professor of Thanksgiving at DeVry University was just awesome.
I guess that’s why I thought it sucked. I haven’t seen Thor.
The History Channel stuff was funny, I admit that.
“Why do people still try to change my mind about a show that I’ve watched on and off for the last 14 years?”
FYI…none of them have been on for nearly 14 years but it’s just as annoying when you do it with Community and Mad Men and Archer.
@TFBuckFutter
A lot of people had a similar reaction. I for one rather enjoyed it as I got the Thor parody and as a Graduate Student in History the History Channel’s recent programming has really been pissing me off for some time.
Screw all of you guys, I’m going to Casa Bonita!
/still a great show
Because it’s good, ya’ dummy! AGH what a dummy!

I watched several episodes this season, and many of them were good; it’s just not geared to my visual or aural tastes. You jumped to false conclusions through untruths you created in your head. Fuck you.
FYI…none of them have been on for nearly 14 years but it’s just as annoying when you do it with Community and Mad Men and Archer.
I don’t think I try to convince people they should like a show they don’t like; I merely highlight shows I DO like because otherwise covering reality TV non-stop would make me suicidal. If you’re annoyed by my rare instances of positivity, you can fuck off, too.
Haha.
That was almost as entertaining as watching David O. Russell call Lily Tomlin a cunt.
It’s awesome when a blogger actually responds rather than just banning turds.
South Park, when it’s good, it’s really good. When it’s not good, you lose thirty minutes of your life and move on. Some people really hate it, I don’t know why.
I, for one, loved the Mantequilla episode.
Doesn’t take much to get Matt butthurt.
