“Bosom Buddies” debuted in 1980, and survived only two seasons on network TV — before cable made it hard for network TV shows — largely due to the charm of Tom Hanks, who is merely one of the most talented actors of his generation.
Now, more than 30 years later, ABC will air another men-in-drag comedy called “Work It.” There’s a promo embedded below, and it’s the intellectual equivalent of ABC executives collectively spitting in your face. Three decades ago, I could maybe believe that two guys would dress as women to live in a female-only residence. In 2011, the premise is that two down-on-their-luck men cross-dress in order to get jobs that go to women:
With unemployment an ongoing issue and women now outnumbering men in the workforce, the new comedy series “Work It” follows two alpha males who realize the only way to beat the current “mancession” and land a job in pharmaceutical sales is to pass themselves off as women. [ABC]
Their embarrassingly poor drag acts not only fool people with (presumably) eyes and common sense, but apparently also land them the jobs ahead of ACTUAL women. Watch the preview and marvel at how stupid ABC thinks you are.
It’s so nice to know that ABC shelved “Cougar Town” in order to air this.

and no more Better Off Ted. That common denominator is apparently full of retards.
People who happily watch CBS sitcoms will find this insulting. Its that bad.
Holy shit. ABC thinks we’re all morons. And will be proven right when this beats Community in the ratings.
I hate this planet.
There is no god.
It will get better ratings than Community and historians will look back at 2012 as the point where Western Civilization collapsed.
The Latino(a?) in the duo was Sucre on Prison Break. I never figured him for the bitch role before, but I guess I was wrong. This looks so awfully bad, it’ll probably get a 3-year pick-up after the first episode airs. I so hate network execs this year.
I really hate the way the term “alpha male” gets thrown around. I’m no anthropologist, but I’m pretty sure any guy that dresses up as a woman to get a desk job would not qualify as an alpha.
The women who get hired as pharmaceutical company reps are hired with their looks in mind. They’re supposed to be able to charm doctors and such into buying their products. Unless there’s a large percentage of tranny-chasing MDs out there, I don’t think these two guys get hired for that kind of job. Ever.
Having worked in the Pharma industry, I can attest that you are merely scratching the surface. Our sales reps were basically escorts that could memorize the basic info about our products.
And by escorts, I mean prostitutes.
How are these shows getting chances yet a chow like Community gets bumped. I can not even comprehend the thinking of TV executives and how they can convince each other these ideas are gold.
What is this, England? Get this off American TV!
I can hardly wait for the “ladies room, can I borrow a tampon scene”…….
….any bets to whether it will be in the first episode or the second?
Isn’t a “mancession” a vasectomy where they chop the shaft off too?
Who are the two hotties in the banner pic? I like a woman with a strong set of legs.
How can ANY man remain unemployed when there are glory-holes EVERYWHERE….?
@Otto Man damn right. the University of Kentucky Cheerleading team used to provide a disproportionate number of the nation’s pharma reps for just that reason. Might still. Damn, I should have become a doctor with questionable ethics.
This show looks so awful it should be on CBS.
I once masturbated to Lady Gaga so I am pretty sure that me spending an evening with hand-cream and this show is the next wrung on the downward spiraling ladder of self-loathing.
I’d suggest *fart noise* as the caption for the photo above, but I fear it’d give the writers an idea for an episode.
agree w/ Otto- the basic premise of the show doesn’t even hold up. The job applicaitons for pharma reps and a hooters waitresses are identical. This show is going to make Juwanna Man look like Citizen Kane.
Dammit ABC, you’re the ones who forced Matt to retire!
My only complaint when watching “Idiocracy” is that the writers CLEARLY overestimated how long the devolution process would take.
hold on. we’re all just gonna act like “mancession” is a real word now?
Haven’t network executives learned the lesson of “Ask Harriet”?
I’m going to miss your withering reviews of awful shows most of all, scarecrow!
If there isn’t a crossover promotion between this and “Ru Paul’s Drag Race,” I’ll eat my feather boa and best set of penis-tucking panties.
how…how on earth…
Lol they totally look like chicks………………………………. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Bosom Buddies was truly awful, but I watched it just for Donna Dixon.
/still shocked she married Dan Akroyd
