MTV recently released a list of celebrities who will be appearing at its annual New Year’s Eve celebration and holy crap I am 1000 years old and should just be cast off on an iceberg to die alone at sea so I no longer burden society.
MTV will ring in the new year with a little help from our friends, including Mac Miller, J. Cole and Jason Derülo. “NYE in NYC 2012″ will air live at 11 p.m. ET on December 31 from Times Square and will also boast performances from Selena Gomez and co-host Demi Lovato.
“Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey will be on hand to help Lovato count down the minutes to midnight on the show, which will also feature special appearances from Vanessa Marano and Katie Leclerc of “Switched at Birth.” [MTV]
Ok. Outside of Selena Gomez, I have no idea who any of those people are. None. And I only know who she is because she’s dating Justin Bieber (dear God why do I know that?). Tyler Posey could walk right into my living room and say “Hi, I’m Tyler Posey from ‘Teen Wolf,’” and I’d probably spend the next 20 minutes trying to figure which baby he played in the Michael J. Fox movie. Then I’d realize the movie came out in 1985 and that kid was probably born in like 1993 and I’d just die. Right there. I’d age hundreds of years and turn into dust like I drank from the wrong grail, and then I’d blow away when he turned on the blow dryer he probably carries with him to maintain his assuredly infuriating haircut.
Because I have nothing else to add due to my ignorance, here are some titles of songs I imagine will be performed during this special: “Baby, You’re My Baby Girl”; “Bounce (DJ Technoface Remix)”; “5ive Wayz I Luv U (feat. MC Dubstep)”; “Boy You’re My Only Boy (Baby)”; “Do Me At the Mall.”

I will NOT be watching this… because I’ll be asleep by 10:30
/ Getting old
“Do Me At The Mall”
Sounds like a Ramones song.
I just got 2 shirts from J. Cole. You get 4% back on eBates.
Are those umlauts? Who got the black metal in these (I imagine) white kids?
Yeah I have no idea who those people are either.
Is it that we are old, or is it that popular culture has become too expansive to follow completely?
I don’t feel old because I don’t know who these people are. I don’t feel old period. I just ancknowledge that I’m not young anymore, and therfore, don’t need to bother thinking or knowing about what people under 18 think is cool. I don’t know why Americans not only care what kids think (I remember as a kid no one caring about what kids did “Be quiet. Adults are speaking”. Anyone remember that?), but I hate how it ties into this whole thing with people of my generation (lets say people between the ages of 25-36) thinking they’re old now. I’m hearing it all over the place and it usually would make me angry, but instead it makes me feel sorry for them. That they honestly believe that their lives are over now. I don’t get it. I’m a much better person, as well as a healthier person than I was 5 years ago, or 10years ago (I’m 27). I’m embracing where I am in life right now. I’m not allowing life to beat me down. I stay in shape so as to stay healthy physically, and I keep a positive outlook to keep myself healthy mentally.
This coming from a guy who still lives at home, doesn’t have a job, doesn’t own a car (or a license for that matter), never had a girlfriend, and doesn’t really have many friends. I spent my teen years and my early 20′s being depressed, hating everyone, and always being the bummer no one wanted to be around. I never had any “moment of clarity” that put things in perspective. I just realized that I can’t change the world. What I could change was my attitude. So I did.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. I’m really out of touch with the world, the species, and my generation. But I’m still happy. Suck it, whiners. Stop being a person who LETS things happen, and be someone who MAKES things happen.
I’m 21 and I have no fucking clue who any of these people are except for Selena Gomez and that just because my sister likes her.
HI I’M CRITICAL FROM ATLANTA GEORGE AND I WANT TO REQUEST ‘DO ME AT THE MALL’ BECAUSE THAT SONG REMINDS ME OF ME AND MY FRIENDS HANGING OUT AT THE MALL WAAHAHAAAAAHOOOOOHAAA!!! /trl
@Steve YARGHHHHHH!!! I’m going to make this sandwich happen. Thanks for the pep talk.
During my first trip to NYC, when I was 13 or something, I went to MTV Studios in Times Square while they were filming an episode of TRL. The musical guest was Evan and Jaron, and if you looked closely (which I did), you could see me in my orange shirt during outside crowd shots, with my mom to my right. True story.
You know what makes me feel old? My god damn ear hair, that’s what. I have to trim that sh&t like every other day now. WTF is going on in there?
Egh, it just confirms something I already knew. I won’t be watching the MTV’s new year’s eve special
Selena Gomez doesn’t make me feel old, just pervy.
Actually, FP, I think “Do Me at the Mall” was a Digital Underground track.
@JoshK I won a photography contest using a photo of Times Square. In the shot, City High guesting on TRL.
The hell…when did MTV get rid of Alan Hunter?
wtf is City High?
I remember meeting Tyler Posey when he was 15 years old. His father John Posey, was in the TV series “24″ with Kiefer Sutherland. Now the kid is 20 years old…
@critical WTF is City High? Sir you missed out. Not really but the guy who played the shy voiced kid from Sister Act 2 was in the group. [www.youtube.com]
Mac Miller is actually pretty legit imo.
“Do Me at the Mall” is my jam. I totally know all those songs and people you wrote about.
Anyone else grow up in a house too poor for cable but got “The Box” channel? It was like TRL but you could only call in and request one of two rap songs and every call was $32/minute.
Jason Derulo ruined deadspin.
