There is some major casting news in this post that may spoil upcoming episodes of “The Walking Dead,” so if you’re not keen on being spoilered, skedaddle.
Frank Darabont, who has long had a reputation for working with the same set of actors, is currently developing a series for TNT called “LA Noir,” which takes place in 1940′s L.A. and will chronicle the battle between the LAPD and mobster Mickey Cohen. While the show itself sound compelling, the more interesting development here is that Darabont is wooing Jon Bernthal for the lead role of a gumshoe detective, and Jon Bernthal likewise is interested in that role.
If, however, Bernthal takes the role, Darabont would be spoiling his former show twice. First, if Bernthal — who plays Shane on “The Walking Dead” — signs on to “LA Noir,” we can then assume that his character will be killed off (or, at least, his role will diminish). Second, if Bernthal takes the role and is killed off, “The Walking Dead” will lose one of its best non-zombie villains, which will also probably mean more screen time for Bernthal’s co-lead, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes). And no one wants more Rick. It would, however, be a fitting revenge for DarAbont to be able to screw over the show that screwed him over.
Also, here’s this. You’re welcome.

Shane was killed off by bullet through the neck 30 pages into the comic (/sips mountain dew, pinky up)..There are plenty of other characters they could bring in that would fill the role, especially if next season reconnects w/ where the comic went after the gang left the farm.
Exactly, You can use the psycho in the prison. The Mayor. Shane leaving does not scare me as much as what they have done already with this series. This show goes at a Zombies pace and not 28 days later zombies either…
Ahem * tips head forward while pushing glasses up higher on nose* I believe you mean the “governor”
was about to go to wikipedia to look up other characters from the comic that could fill in. THANKS for saving me the time.
I don’t live anywhere near a place where I could get comics, anyone know if it’s available online somewhere?
EVERYTHING is available online somewhere.
I think you mean “if” the gang leaves the farm. I’m still not convinced that’s a gonna happen.
Also, is that coincidentally named “LA Noir” or is it based on the game. Stupid idea to do if it’s not based on the game, if only because the game came out last year and is fresh in peoples minds.
Not to mention that Mickey Cohen was one of the main bad guys in the game, too.
LA Noire was a snooze fest. Hopefully the show will be much more entertaining.
I’ve said this before, but we really need to advance gif technology so it’s more than just a couple frames repeating, without being huge in filesize. as much as everyone (including me) loves gifs, they havent changed much since 1995.
Now hear me out before you dismiss my idea..I think you’re onto something here. How about instead of just using a couple frames repeating, we string MANY frames together, maybe add sound or something that we sync up to the action. Maybe give them a different file extension so people can differentiate the two! .mov? .3g2? .mpg? maybe .wmv? We could even give them a different name! Maybe “video” orrrrrr “movie”! Something that people could really rally behind.
The level of bitchiness in Duto’s reply is delightful. DO ME NEXT! DO ME!
What wrong with Rick? He’s certainly a little vanilla, But I don’t find him a boring character all around. He’s the constant moral center, even if it’s to a fault.
Rick’s personality in the comics is very different from the show. The show has essentially taken the most important aspect of his character away, which is doing anything it takes to survive and protect his family no matter how morally reprehensible it is.
Plus, I mean Rick’s plan to protect the kid was “wait here, I’ll draw them off then fight them” as opposed to “girl, climb this tree while I kill them”.
UGGGHHH I FUCKING HATE THIS SHOW SO MUCH NOW.
Eh, I keep expecting Shane to die anyway.
MORE DARYL.
i vote we kill all of them and get new characters. seriously, what kind of people make countless trips to the drug store for stuff… YOU HAVE CARS AND HORSES AND BACKPACKS.. JUST TAKE FUCKING EVERYTHING WHO CARES IF YOU NEED IT OR NOT INSTEAD OF MAKING SPECIAL TRIPS EVERY SINGLE TIME ASSHOLES.
but seriously, Shane’s the only character I like even just a little bit so kill’em all and end the show since basically nothing happens ever.
Once again, someone is saying what I scream at the television every fricking time they go into town. Especially the bar – zombie apocalypse = I bring every ounce of booze back to ye olde farmhouse for a perpetual hangover.
Shane is the best guy on Walking Dead followed closely behind by Darryl. Rick is a moron. If Shane gets killed off, I’m walking away from the show and follow him over to L.A. Noir. I like Noir more than zombies anyway.
If you’ve read the comics, you’d know why this is a silly statement.
I have read some of the comics (a bit a the start, a bit of the Governor stuff) but I’m watching the TV series as a different animal. As far as the TV show is concerned Shane is the best character on the show. He makes the tough calls, he makes the smart choices, he’s living in the zombie apocalypse, not society. I wouldn’t call him a villain either. He is clearly struggling with the choices he’s made and he’s slowly slipping into insanity. I watch the show to see his storyarc. Nearly everyone else is boring soap opera crap. Shane is compelling.
Killing Otis may have been unnecessary but the argument is still valid. If they got overrun and eaten, Carl would have died. So that’s three people dead, rather than one. And not only that, it’s a guy Shane barely knew. If you were in the same situation, would you die with honor? Or sacrifice an almost complete stranger to save your best friend’s son who is also a kid you see as your own?
Shane’s attitude towards Herschel and Rick in the mid-season finale was completely justified. When there’s a barn full of zombies 100 yards from where you sleep, the rational thing would be to kill them or leave. Rick wanted to TALK about it. To compromise. No. You go in guns blazing and take them out. There is no room for discussion. Shane is the guy that would survive, and the guy I’d want with me because he’d get sh!t done. (Also Daryl.)
Just kill off Shane already. The guy has outstayed his welcome. ANd while they’re at it, kill off everyone else except Daryl and Glen. And bring back Daryl’s one armed racist brother Merle. They can change the show to Sons of Anarchy but with zombies and asian jokes.
go on…
