This Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial is all over the place today. But, as the Internet’s premiere destination for dog-related television content, I feel it’s very important to post it here anyway. After all, we have an image to maintain.
The spot continues the Star Wars theme from last year, and features a bunch of adorable pooches barking along to the film’s score. It’s pretty much the perfect commercial. The only way it could be improved — and I’m really splitting hairs here — is if they were barking a smooth R&B jam from the 90s instead, and my precious Blue Shirt Guy shimmied his way across the screen at the end. I love that guy. If Volkswagen had included him in this ad, I probably would have just mailed them a check. Not to pay for anything, just as a donation. After all, it’s important to support the arts.

The Empire Strikes Bark.
I saw this commercial on the TV the other night, and immediately came to the same conclusion that you did.
The AT-AT at the 0:46 mark turns this commercial up to 11.
You think you’ve heard the modern classics rendered in the best possible way, and then something like this comes along and blows open the doors of perception.
When they make this song version available on iTunes I’m all over it.
They need to release the Puppy Bowl line-up stat.
I’m boycotting the Puppy Bowl until they name Ufford referee.
I’m not saying that Ufford doesn’t deserve a shot at referee, especially after all the blown calls in the red zone last year, but it’s going to take a lot more to get me to boycott the Puppy Bowl.
Eeeeee!!! Chewbacca dog!!!!
It’s like this commercial was genetically engineered to win the love of the Internet.
If they included a kitten in a Jabba the Hutt costume, it would be perfect.
cats are cunts
The only way this could be any more perfect is if Kristen Wiig’s mug weren’t still at the top of the page.
I hope this ad signals the tipping point of the internet moving away from stupid stupid cats, and putting more emphasis on awesome dogs.
In short dogs > cats
whoever thought of this commercial MUST go and save The CW! also, bestest ad EBAR!
I would love this except for the fact that it just feels like a tie-in with the re-release of the Phantom Menace in 3D. I can’t remember the last time that I wanted a movie release to fail as bad as I want these re-releases.
I….I’m sorry. I can’t let such an egregious error go. I know you know this. I know I’m a fucking nerd. I can’t help it. I…must tell…the world… This isn’t the Star Wars theme. It’s the Imperial March, Darth Vader’s theme. I hate myself.
If it will redeem me at all, the video makes me happy to be alive.
The text calls this the film’s score, ‘Star Wars theme’ refers to the commercial from last year with the mini-Vader.
