HBO’s upcoming comedy “Girls” has been getting a lot of buzz in advance of its April 15th premiere. Part of the hype is because the project was created by critical darling Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture) and Comedy Midas Judd Apatow, but the other part is that it looks like a dramatic shift from HBO’s previous “Hey, isn’t life just the best? Let’s get drinks and bone” brand of comedies, like “Sex and the City” and “Entourage.” In fact, many — including the people at HBO — are branding it as the anti-”Sex and the City.” I would argue that “the anti-’Sex and the City’” would actually be a show about a group of celibate Amish men who refuse to talk about shoes under any circumstances, but now we’re just arguing semantics.
Anyway, HBO released the first full-length trailer for the show recently, and, sure enough, it has the Apatow-style all over it: awkward, a little uncomfortable, and substantially more realistic than the lifestyle-porn shows mentioned above. Granted, an off-beat show focusing on a group of 20-something women ain’t exactly lighting up the ol’ Uproxx Target Demo Meter, but I fully support both (a) quality television made by creative and talented people, and (b) people going out of their way to passive aggressively trash shows I dislike, so at the very least I plan on giving this show a shot.

I watched Tiny Furniture on Netflix Instant last weekend and with so many of the same characters and themes it almost seems like Tiny Furniture: The TV Series. My only real complaint about Tiny Furniture was that it didn’t really have an ending and ended pretty abruptly, so that’s looking good for this show since television shows have a couple of seasons before they have to worry about an “ending”.
Also I think Allison Williams is pretty and want to ask Brian Williams permission to marry her.
it has the Apatow-style all over it
You mean women having sex with their bras on?
Boo! That’s sucks. Knocked Up denied me Katharine Heigels one redeeming quality – which of course, is boobs.
The trailer had me at lesbo kissing. I’m so sad. Not because of the kiss but because of how easy it is to get me on board. I am the male stereotype.
I like that they make the least attractive girl wear clothes she clearly obtained by grave-robbing librarians who died of loneliness.
I was hoping this was going to be the show’s theme song when I saw the title.
You and me both, homie.
the mom from freaks and geeks! i have missed her!
Wow, incredibly girly, yet I’m intrigued.
This looks pretty bad. So I’m supposed to feel badly for a girl who stops getting a free ride from her parents?

I’m pretty the “anti-Sex in the City” would be showing how life actually is in New York for most people that move there after about six months.
Ooh it has Officer Rhodes in it from that move whose name I won’t mention. Nice.
If this show isn’t in the Uproxx Target Reader Demo, I would argue that it is pretty squarely in the Uproxx Actual Reader Demo.
Are there exposed breasts on this show? This is a major artistic concern of mine.
