One of the series I’m most looking forward to this Spring is “Veep,” which premieres on April 22nd in the post “Game of Thrones” time slot. It stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and comes from the brilliant mind of Armando Iannucci, who appears to be transplanting the spirit of his British TV series, “The Thick Of It” (and the subsequent movie, In the Loop) over to HBO. It’s the same premise with slightly bigger stakes. Basically, it’s “The West Wing” crossed with the British “The Office” set in the Vice President’s Office, only instead of noble characters aiming to achieve their idealistic goals, the only thing the bumbling characters care about is public perception and their own jobs. So, basically: It’s more real-to-life than “The West Wing.” The trailer — which features Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, and Anna Chumskly (yes, the cute girl from My Girl all growed up) — looks very promising.
But it’s missing is Malcolm Tucker. I won’t try to convince anyone that hasn’t seen In the Loop or “The Thick of It” of the genius of Peter Capaldi’s character, but those who have seen it would probably agree that Tucker is one of the five best characters of the century so far, behind Omar Little, Walter White, and basically tied with Ron Swanson. Trust me when I say I’m not speaking out of my ass — this guy is a maelstrom of profanity and rage. If you haven’t seen “The Thick of It,” this clip of Malcolm Tucker should be all you need to convince you to seek it out (NSFW for language. So much beautiful language).

Big Matt Walsh fan. Anyone else remember “Man Bites Dog” on Comedy Central?
You mean the faux news show with AD Miles, the funny hot chick and a pre-fame Zach Garbafiqyzjuxas? That show was so damned underrated.
Also, I will give a million dollars to the first person who can make a commercial or trailer WITHOUT using a Black Keys song.
My love for Elaine shall never wane.
In The Loop was my favorite movie of 2009 and I completely agree on Malcom Tucker being one of the best characters in recent memory. It’s a shame he can’t be involved- but I think this could be a great show.
I dunno. I just couldn’t get into In The Loop. I really wanted to like it, since I read so many wonderful things about it, and I usually enjoy movies that the critics like (yes, I like to smell my own farts too). In The Loop just seemed like a skinny Scottish asshole running around threatening to physically harm people so he could get his way. I’ve also never seen The Thick of It, so maybe I wasn’t primed for the movie.
I hadn’t seen In The Thick of It either but I guess something about a skinny Scottish asshole being a douche to everybody just does it for me. Gandolfini’s character was great too.
I didn’t necessarily agree with the politics of it either but I thought the script was fairly clever as well.
I think we need a show where Malcolm Tucker pops up on random shitty sitcoms and just reems them up and down. I for one would start watching “Two and a Half Men” if he popped in and started ranting about horse cock.
I prefer Jamie “The Crossest Man in Scotland” McDonald

Why do you have such a boner for British TV? Also political parody shows are never funny. Fake news does lampooning politicians way better.
I must correct myself since Spin City wasn’t a bad show.
Having said that, the preview for Veep looks like every other ‘lol politicians amirite guys?!’ shows ever.
I must also correct you. Benson was awesome.
/so sayeth my childhood self, my grown-up self can neither confirm nor deny
The vice president is a woman? That’s adorable.
/slaps secretary’s ass
I fuckin’ lost it at the “Wake up and smell the cock” line.
So that’s what a British Rahm Emanuel would look like.
I wish Google Image Search had a filter that would exclude all photos taken before a certain date. It creeps me out to search Anna Chumsky and see all of these photos of her as a child. It really makes it hard for me to objectify her a sex object when faced with the reality of her being an actual person who was once a child.
So is Elaine showing her titties or am I skipping this show?
That is a promising trailer. I hope Tony Hale’s role is significant and recurring.
But I thought “Veep” was the Palin thing with Julianne Moore. What’s that one called?
