Last night, without notice, “The Colbert Report” aired a rerun. It was announced today by a Comedy Central spokesperson that “The Colbert Report” is expected to halt production at least until next week “due to unforeseen circumstances.” While it certainly would be more entertaining to believe that Colbert halted production to deal with a potential indictment surrounding his SuperPac, unfortunately, it appears that it’s due to an emergency in the family, according to the Wall Street Journal.
No clue what the family medical emergency is, but he’s worked through his own illness in the past, so I’m guessing it’s serious. I had the chance to see Colbert a few years ago for a performance at Cornell. He came as himself and not as the television personality version. He was supremely genuine and talked at length about his conservative Catholic upbringing. It was apparent by the way he spoke that he was nothing like the Republican blowhard he plays on TV. Instead, he came off as a doting husband and an affectionately lame father of three, similar in my mind to Phil Dunphy without any of the over-exaggerations.
He’s clearly a big family man, and I sincerely hope everything turns out OK for the Colbert clan. We’ll update this post if anymore details come in.

Comments on the HP article this morning indicated that it’s because Stephen’s mother is not doing well at all.
Someone claiming to be his nephew in the WSJ comments at that link says Stephen’s wife was killed in an automobile accident.
Wait, his TV persona is an act? I’m SHOCKED.
Hope everything’s ok though.
Time until Pat Robertson comments on Colbert’s situation being brought on by God as punishment……
Shit. *goes and looks at the last dog post to cheer up.
I’m sorry to hear about this and have only the warmest wishes for him and his entire family.
I hope everything is ok. If it’s not, here’s hoping it has something to do with the Superpac
Oh that sucks, I wish him the best.
