Cougar Town (ABC) — If you’ve never seen the show because of its lame title, or if you checked out after the first few episodes before the show found its legs, I cannot emphasize enough what an incredibly funny show you’re missing. If you love “Community,” or if you loved the first five seasons of “Scrubs,” there’s every reason in the world you’d love “Cougar Town.” It’s nestled in a terrible time slot after “Last Man Standing” (whose audience will hate “Cougar Town”), but I honestly encourage you to give the show a shot. There’s not much separating it from cancellation, so we could use all the new viewers we can get. The show is Howard-Stern approved, if that means anything to you. Plus, it’s the drunkest show on TV.
Glee (FOX) — Think about it, this is your alternative to “Cougar Town” in the time slot: A Valentine’s Day episode of “Glee.” Tell me you don’t hate yourself that much. (NOTE: In a weird bit of timing, tonight’s episode features a character singing Whitney Houston’s signature song, “I Will Always Love You.”)
The River (ABC) — I checked out the premiere last week. The acting is atrocious; I haven’t seen that much wood since (insert Ron Jeremy joke). But, the concept was interesting and relatively novel for television (I mean, other than the 1,000 echoes of “Lost”), so I’m sticking with it until it actively pisses me off.
Southland (TNT) — Watch. Set ALL your DVRs.
Parenthood (NBC) — My favorite television writer right now is Jason Katims (other than Jon Worley, OBVS), responsible for this, “Friday Night Lights,” and a new medical drama he’s developing for NBC next fall starring Jason Ritter and Michael B. Jordan (if you’re watching “Parenthood,” you can probably guess what this means for Sarah’s character). It nearly killed me to learn that Katims also had a hand in the script for The Vow, a terrible movie that honest-to-God featured a scene in which hot-boxing was used as a romantic gesture.
Justified (FX) — It goes without saying. Check back tomorrow for Danger’s discussion post. FUN FACT: Tonight’s episode was co-written by our pal Jon Worley.
LATE NIGHT GUESTS — It’s Valentine’s Day, y’all. You should be getting booty around this time, but if you’re all bootied out, Letterman has Viola Davis, Leno has Tyler Perry, Kimmel has John Goodman, Fallon has Donald Trump (why?) but also Idris Elba (awesome), and Jon Stewart has Ricky Gervais.

“Plus, it’s the drunkest show on TV.”
Really?
-Hoda & Kathie Lee.
So … Glee killed Whitney for profit?
The River seems…well, it’s fun and you’re right, not pissing me off yet.
Cougartown on the other hand has never really grabbed me but I’m willing to check in if Courtney Cox looks as good as she does in the banner.
Finished Justified S2 on DVD, where can I find the first few episodes of the 3rd season?

iTunes or amazon instant are the legit ways. I’m sure you can steal it, but you’d be robbing us writers of literally dozens of pennies.
If I send you writers a quarter would you guys still be mad?
Verified
Well, send quarters to the cast & crew as well.
Can the cast and crew just one quarter? I mean the real talent is the writers, lets be honest here.
Serious note: Why the hell isn’t this free on line somewhere? I’d be more than willing to watch commercials, but three/four bucks an episode for a show that’s 20 bucks a season DVD is ridiculous. I have a dish and get FX, I should be able to watch the program online somewhere with commercials. Like most people in the 19-35 demo I don’t really have a life that allows me to be home during primetime, thus I resort to DVR, Hulu, Netflix, and sometimes Piracy.
I subscribe to Netflix and Hulu+ so I’m willing to pay something for an a la carte subscription rate and still watch commercials (Hulu+), with DVR I just fast forward through the commercials anyways so the advertisers get completely boned. If I watch on Hulu I’m guaranteed to sit through at least three minutes of commercials for an hour long show…whereas when I watch it on my DVR I sit through zero. This is something I simply don’t understand. I just got into the show by the recommendation of Warming Glow, and am a couple of episodes behind…I’d like to catch up so I can watch it as it happens. I’m just not willing to pay twelve to sixteen bucks to do it when I’ll buy the DVDs for 20 in ten months anyways.
Why are they turning down perfectly good advertising dollars from Hulu, their own website, or some other medium?
I seriously don’t get the logic behind this…someone help me.

I’m really not sure. “Terriers” was on hulu while airing, but that was a different studio (“Justified” is Sony). To be fair, I think iTunes charges $1.99 for SD episodes, so it’s $26 for the season, not too far from the DVD price (and the HD episodes roughly match up with blu-ray prices). And you get to see it way earlier.
I honestly have never watched Couger Town because of the terribly off-putting name. Courtney Cox was on Stern last week saying how they keep trying to get it changed but the networks wont do it because the show is now considered “established.” Whats a more accurate show title that would better describe the show? It should be noted that I only stuck w Justified because Timothy Olyphant said he was “Justified” 5 times in the pilot.
Despite the title (which, frankly, I don’t think is that bad — and they make fun of it in the opening credits each week), I think the show is a great blend of hilarity, quirkiness, and genuine warmth. (Full disclosure: I’m in the same demographic as the show’s characters, so maybe that explains my enjoyment of it.) A more accurate title? “Neighborhood friends drink lots o’ wine and hi-jinx ensue”. “Older Friends”, maybe? I may not be selling this well….
They refer to drinking wine as “pounding grape.” I always thought that would be a great name for the show.
Romance related pet peeve – Do you think all those folks who picked I Will Always Love you as their wedding song right after The Bodyguard came out actually ever listened to the words? Because…ummm…it’s not about staying together. Makes. Me. Crazy.
To calm myself, I will now think dirty, dirty thoughts about Idris Elba.
Very much like how patriotic events and rallies like to play “Born in the USA” because, hey, it says USA over and over, so it must be patriotic, right?
My favorite of all time is when people sing along to “Too Close” by Next without realizing it is a song about dancing with a boner.
Does anyone like a heroine addiction for a cruise ship ride? Because I do.
Bill Lawrence was on the second-most recent WTF podcast explaining the name of the show, and that by this point they are stuck with the name even if they wanted to change it because the reasons to keep it, including the fact that if they did it would screw up every DVR season pass, outweigh the reasons to change it.

Top Shot’s new season begins tonight. Not a bad show if you like that sort of thing.
That show is right on target.
“and a new medical drama he’s developing for NBC next fall starring Jason Ritter and Michael B. Jordan”
Sounds like a “slam dunk.”
I’ll show myself out.

Shit…I’m WAY too tired on a Tuesday night to make three people cum…..(including me, of course)……I’m lucky to get one off….
Plus; who will make the sammiches?
Well, let’s just say that I’m buy-curious.
“(insert Ron Jeremy joke)” is its own Ron Jeremy joke.
I think I’ll try Cougar Town again……maybe…..because it sucked like hell for the first few months…..
“You mean I had four kidneys??!”
Damn straight, son.
I got into Cougar Town during the summer reruns of the first season, and the quirkiness grabbed me. The love from Scrubs fans should be there because I think they have the same feel, they’re both created by Bill Lawrence, and there have been a bunch of Scrubs actors appearing in it…and Ted even showed up last season!
