Good news for What the Fu*kers, What the Fu*kaneers, Too Drunk to What the Fu*k, I’ll Have the Mandarin What the Fu*k fans everywhere: a semi-autobiographical pilot shot by Marc Maron, host of the popular comedy podcast WTF, has been picked up for 10 episodes by IFC, according to Laughspin.
The pilot centers around Maron, a guy who records a podcast from his garage dealing with that reality while trying to navigate his tense relationship with his much-younger girlfriend. If you know Maron or his hugely successful podcast “WTF,” you’ll recognize all of these concepts. In the pilot, Ed Asner plays Maron’s vitamin-pushing, bi-polar father. “Community” star Ken Jeong plays himself as a guest on the podcast. UCB LA’s Angela Trimbur plays Maron’s girlfriend and comedians Sean Patton and W. Kamau Bell also make appearances. (Laughspin)
It’s unknown whether Asner or Jeong will reprise their roles or when the show is scheduled to air (more info will be released Tuesday during IFC’s upfronts), but I, for one, can’t wait for The Return of Gallagher Episode during sweeps, when he reappears in Maron’s doorway, Sledge-o-Matic in hand, to deliver a heartfelt apology as big as a comically oversized couch. Bring the tissues.

I might be the only one, but I find Maron and the WTF podcast unbearable. He comes off like a bitter dickhead on the podcast- and his material overall seems like a collection of bush-league amateur stand-up obvious jokes. Just hacky and dated… a lot like using the abreviation WTF itself.
I cant say he’s unbearable, but its far from my favorite podcast. I only listen when he has a good guest on now. I just dont like his interview style.
I generally skip over the first 10 minutes of the podcast; I much prefer his interviews over his musings on storage facilities and his relationship with Jessica.
I enjoy the long-form interview format, and I think Maron is excellent at drawing people out and getting interesting and insightful responses from his subjects. That said, I wouldn’t watch a fictionalized sitcom version of his podcast if you paid me. Just give the guy a late night talk show already.
Just put a camera on the podcast ESPN style and follow up hand held when things inevitably go to shit. Easy entertainment.
Not to be that guy, but didn’t Gallagher have a heart attack and go into a coma a few days ago? Maron better have a good alibi.
He did, but he’s out of it and “telling jokes” again, according to his manager. He’s already made fun of four male nurses and a gay doctor.
Marc Maron is so unfunny it’s not funny.
You just blew my mind.
I’ve tried on several occasions to get into his podcast if there’s an interesting guest on, but I’ve never been able to get through the first ten minutes.
So it’s a live action “Dr. Katz.” That’s fine, I liked “Dr. Katz” and I like WTF, but there’s no way to capture the meat of the interviews in a 30 minute sitcom and I don’t know that we need another “guy befuddled by his loved ones and the world around him” show on TV.
Why is he wearing two jackets? How cold is that studio?
Since piling on his fun, add me to the list that thinks Maron is not funny.
Would much rather see Pat Francis get a pilot as Paul Stanley.
Hipster or just on a budget?
