Damnit, every time someething or someone like “Game of Thrones,” “Community,” “Doctor Who,” or Rosario Dawson comes along to give NEEEEEEERDs a leg up in pop culture’s cool department, a show like “The Big Bang Theory” or someone like Olivia Munn sets us back again. WHEN WILL WE BREAK THIS GLASS CEILING? For every sexy cosplay gallery or ultra-violent nerd flick like Kick-Ass, there’s a Poindexter stereotype to mess with our momentum.
Now comes word that TBS is looking to set us all the way back to the 1980s.
Looking to ride the coattails of syndie hit “The Big Bang Theory,” TBS is giving a greenlight to reality series “King of the Nerds.” Hosted by “Revenge of the Nerds” thesps Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong, series will test competitors intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop culture prowess. Cabler has ordered eight episodes, set for an early 2013 debut.
Booger? I thought we got rid of that guy in the early ’90s. Why does he keep haunting us? Nerds have come a long way since Revenge of the Nerds. We don’t wear protect protectors anymore and we have designer inhalers, damnit. Oh, screw you. I’m going to my mom’s basement WHERE I TOUCHED A REAL GIRLS BOOB ONCE.

Booger has been kicking ass on American Dad as Snot.
Also you forgot the manditory nerd gif. BRING BACK MATT!

I think the real tragedy is that the line between nerd, geek, and dork has become tremendously blurred since the late ’80′s.
I think we need to make a real life Geek, Dweeb or Spaz from SNL.
Great point- these words used to have specific meaning, now they just seem interchangeable. Kids today, so lazy.
I need a ven diagram but I think both nerds and dorks are usually geeks, but nerds at least have the credibility of high intelligence whereas dorks do not.
Whoever loses on the show will get yelled at by John Goodman in the locker room.
“You know, when you were a baby in your crib, your father looked down at you, he had but one hope – some day my son will grow to be a man. Well look at you now. You just got your ass whipped by a bunch of goddamn…well, a bunch of other goddamn nerds!”
I always thought that Farmer Ted from Sixteen Candles was king of the nerds, but I checked and it turns out he was “king of the dipshits,” so carry on.
I don’t expect nerds to ever really be cool, but this certainly isn’t helping.
I liked the show better when it was called Beat the Geek.
But will they also teach us how to better appreciate “hair pie?”
When i first heard it was going to be on TBS, i thought it was Tyler Perry presents Revenge of the Nerds and it was an all black cast of Revenge of the Nerds…but i’m okay with this version. Mainly because i’m racist.
I hate this idea, but legit bit of earnestness here: Booger was pretty good in “Ray”.
