We're still waiting to hear how “Community” did last night ratings-wise, but no matter the answer, the numbers will be slightly skewed (for the better). “The Big Bang Theory” wasn’t on, and it’s likely at least SOME of that audience headed over to NBC, rather than watch college basketball. (UPDATE: it did very well.) And hopefully SOME of THAT audience flipped to FX for “Archer” because holy moly, was that an awesome episode.

Had only been checking TV By the Numbers, and they just updated: “The post-hiatus return of Community drew a season high 2.2 adults 18-49, up 46% vs. a 1.5 rating in its last new episode in early December.”
Seriously, this is just awesome. So, did someone kidnap like 7 Nielson families and watch Community from their homes to make this difference?
It is awesome, BUT 30 Rock was way up, too, which means it likely has more to do with no Big Bang Theory than America finally coming to their senses.

I like to think more people did what I did: Turned on tv at 8:00 and let my empty couch watch it live while it was on*, then came back and watched it on my DVR without commercials.
*This approach only (maybe) works because I’m fairly certain TiVo reports live watching as counting more for ratings than if you’re watching it 29 seconds or more after it starts.

I can’t be the only one that was underwhelmed by Community’s return from hiatus episode last night? If Harmon was fortunate enough to have caught a few new eyes because there wasn’t much else on, I doubt he’d be lucky enough to retain them with that episode. Remedial Chaos Theory it was not.
It wasn’t trying to be “Remedial,” though, which is a good thing. The show needed something approaching “normal,” to hopefully lure in new viewers, and in that sense, it was very successful. It was a nice (Miss Piggy voice), funny episode, with a dark twist at the end. And a monkey.
I think the whole joke was it was a ‘normal’ episode and that’s why Troy and Abed went normal by purging all the weird. At the end though they realized they had to be weird.
It wasn’t the best of all time, but then again even Wilt Chamberlain only had one 100 point game.
I got the the kind of meta plot line of Troy and Abed being normal, but television doesn’t work that way. You can’t lure an audience by selling the show one way the same way you can lure an audience to one two-hour film. Eventually (one week later) the people you tricked into watching are going to look at the direction the show goes and say “never mind, this isn’t what I thought it was” and stop watching.
I’m certainly not saying the show’s done or that I’m done with it (I drink coffee out of a Troy and Abed In The Morning mug), just that after the hiatus and the internet fueled bruhaha that followed I expected something a little more punchy than that is all.
Up all night is better with Sean Garrity…….

30 Rock has greatly improved lately…..and brining back Johnny Gavin is always a good move…
The Office is starting to try to really shake itself up…..but it may be too late.
If Nellie is the new boss, I think I’m out once and for all. If she goes beyond “funny in doses” I think it’ll get incredibly grating.

Common complaint about Community episodes:
Last night’s Community was not the best 21 minutes of television of my life. That episode was really underwhelming.
Images with subtitles and the characters’ mouths wiggling a little bit are NOT gif-worthy. It’s just saying what the line was…
