I’m not all that familiar with the “Brony” community — dudes that are into “My Little Pony” — but it sounds silly, harmless, and maybe even ironic to me. Damn kids and their ponies. Apparently, certain dudes are into this new version of “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.” I understand the writing and animation on the new show is outstanding, and not even specifically aimed at teen girls. It’s not really my thing, but then again, my daughters aren’t old enough for it yet. What it doesn’t strike me as is something that dudes ought to be ashamed of liking because it doesn’t fall under the “freedoms” for which the troops in Afghanistan are fighting. But one a**hole over on Big Hollywood has a huge bug up his ass about how guys like to spend their free time.

Of all the crap you can pick on liberals for, this guy chooses “My Little Pony”? It’s not even a liberal show — it’s a show that espouses Christian messages. Besides, from what I understand about the new “My Little Pony,” it features military ponies and preaches a lot of conservative values, and for the most part, the men who watch it were introduced to it by their daughters. IS THIS GUY ANTI-FAMILY? What does he have against fathers who want to spend some quality TV time with their kids? This is what’s ruining America: Conservatives like this guy encouraging Dads to go out and smoke crack and kill prostitues instead of spending time with their daughters. Such a shame.

The argument that “you’re doing X while soldiers are over there fighting in Y, should make you ashamed of yourself” works for pretty much everything. “You’re sitting at a desk at work making money for some big corporation, while soldiers in Somalia are fighting for their freedom. You make me sick.” Its pointless, and stupid. Its an argument that people make when theres no point in making an argument.

That’s funny. I’m an Active Duty Solder and have been for 8 years. I’ve led men. I spent a month with the 82nd Airborne in New Orleans. I spent 15 months in Afghanistan with the same unit. I’ve represented our country in Belgium and I’m currently typing this from West Africa, where I’m serving with 10th Special Forces. I’m around 6tf, 200lbs of tattoos and trained muscle.

As a 23 year old brony, I just laugh at the guy. He doesn’t know what he’s missing. Some people are just fearful of anything that goes against tradition, especially ones that break the rigidly conceived gender norms they’ve been socialized to believe are inherently right. It also allows them to feel a moral superiority by ridiculing a certain group.
I challenge anyone who thinks they hate the show to watch episodes 1 to 12 with an open-mind. I have yet to meet one person who has taken my challenge that hasn’t become a brony.
