Over the weekend, Vice President Joe Biden appeared on “Meet the Press” to discuss his thoughts on, among other things, gay marriage. He remarked that he is “absolutely comfortable” with “men marrying men and women marrying women,” becoming the highest ranking U.S. official to say so. He also believes our “social culture” is ready to accept gay marriage because of a certain NBC sitcom. No, not “The Mike O’ Malley Show.”
I think “Will & Grace” probably did more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody’s ever done so far. And I think— people fear that which is different. Now they’re beginning to understand. They’re beginning to understand that this as a base. (Via)
Biden went on to say, “And that Jack McFarland, without him, America wouldn’t have known that gays are just like you and me. They like Cher, we like Cher. They collect celebrity hair, we collect celebrity hair. They’re vain and self-obsessed, we’re vain and self-obsessed. They stalk Kevin Bacon, we stalk…what was my point again?”

“And Oz taught us that two men showering together can be a beautiful thing.”
The lesson I took from Will and Grace is that having an average cup size of “C” is more appealing than having every cup size be a “C”.
Classic Joe Biden once again proving why he is the reason that no domestic terrorist has seriously made a go at taking out the President.
Biden may be overstating the importance the “Will and Grace cultural moment” but there is a factual basis for his comments.

This article is from 2004 and details the effect that the positive depiction of gay characters can have on people whose life is heterosexually insular. Eight years can be a long time in research so I don’t know if there’s anything more recent that refutes the perspective in the piece but I thought it worth posting.
I chose gay people over religion with almost no help from TV. Suck it Biden.
Gayyyyyyyyyy
