The network season has run its course, “Game of Thrones,” “Mad Men,” and “Veep,” have ended their seasons, “Breaking Bad” doesn’t arrive until July 15th, and I’d rather watch paint dry in the dark than sit through an episode “True Blood.” There’s not a lot of television right now. “Newsroom” kicks off this weekend (and it comes with mixed reviews, so far), “Louie” is back next week, and “Weeds” returns in July. I’ll watch it because there’s not much else to watch, plus Mary Louise Parker will probably remove her skirt. I’m also excited about Carla Gugino and Sigourney Weaver’s new mini-series, “Political Animals,” which arrives in July.
For now, I’m down to around five hours of first-run television at the moment, and currently, “Suits” would have to be considered the highlight of my week. It’s bad enough that I’m watching the OK “Longmire,” and sticking with “Dallas” just to see if it gets any worse. (J.R. Ewing and his eyebrows, however, are fantastic). That said, it is a good time to catch up on some old series (I have half a season of “Fringe” to watch) or maybe watch one of the 15 Best Series Currently on Netflix.
I guess there are also books, and movies, but we’re curious if we’re missing anything that we should be covering. What is everyone else watching on television this summer? I imagine you’re not watching many of the 25 highest rated shows on network TV . Is anyone watching the new Hulu programming? Does anyone have any good recommendations for summer television viewing? Any hidden gems the rest of us are missing? What are you catching up on? Besides “Louis” and “Breaking Bad,” is there anything you’re really looking forward to?

I’m going to watch Homeland and Game of Thrones, because I’ve previously been a loser, living in shame.
I am thinking about watching “Luther” now that it is on Netflix.
Oh that too.
Shadow Line is intense/awesome also.
Oh right – my little band of nerds who watched Battlestar Galactica together are going to try the British Torchwood at some point this summer. YAY Netflix streaming.
Torchwood is enjoyable mostly, but has a lot of really crappy episodes. But it does have John Barrowman has Captain Jack, so it’s automatically worth watching.
Man, you are going to LOVE the first season of Luther!
Game of thrones, mad men and breaking bad, because I lives in te dark ages for faaaaar too long
*lived and *the.
Fucking iPhone
I’ll probably watch the whole FX comedy block on Thursdays. Even the Charlie Sheen and Russell Brand shows out of morbid curiosity. Also I’ll keep watching True Blood because hey soft core porno.
I’m going to watch that Brand show to bitch about it. I’m not gonna lie.
Burnsy, this is one of those rare instances when we agree on something. Although I might not be strong enough to make it through a whole episode.
Shut up.
You shut up!
Oh just make out all ready!
The word “already” mistakenly assumes that they weren’t making out during that entire exchange.
Burn Notice, I guess, even though I feel the same way about it now as I did about Lost toward the end of its run. Futurama, I suppose, and I’ll probably rewatch Happy Endings.
I’m a sucker for Burn Notice and Franklin & Bash. Also anything on FX that doesn’t involve Charlie Sheen.
Ill throw a bone Awkward’s way since no one else will. Pretty decent little comedy on MTV.
Queerfer: I forgot about Awkward. I really dug that show, too. It so doesn’t belong on MTV, though.
That link to your Netflix article is actually a link to an MSNBC story about Bill Clinton and some sluts.
I can’t wait for Louie to come back. Meanwhile, I’ve been catching up on Sherlock, but since that won’t take long, I’ll have to pick something else. Maybe I’ll FINALLY watch Doctor Who, so people can stop acting surprised that I’ve never seen it.
Of the show curently airing, I’m watching Workaholics, Futurama, Wilfred, and True Blood even if it sucks. Of course Stewart and Colbert are also mandatory watching for me.
I’ll probably stick for the last season of Weeds and give a shot to Newsroom and Political Animals.
But I think I’m going to watch Luther, and maybe finally watching Oz. Also, I’ve taken to the task of reading Infinite Jest, which should take me most of the summer.
Exaclty. Swap Oz for The Wire (on season 5) and our summers are pretty damn close.
Good luck getting through Infinite Jest in three months. Yeesh.
Good book, but there are points that it reaaaaaaaally drags..
Just watched Party Down, might try The Borgais, Louie. Pretty much caught up on all the Warmingglow favourites.
Oh, and porn. Gonna watch a lot of that.
I’m enjoying the final season of Eureka and will watch Warehouse 13 when it comes back in July. Neither are amazing, but they’re usually good for a laugh and I like the characters. I gave up on Burn Notice, but I like Necessary Roughness. I’m DVR’ing True Blood because Russell is back, but I haven’t actually watched an episode yet.
So You Think You Can Dance.
just started watching Longmire, and liked the first three episodes. good to see Katee Sackoff back in action. and I like Suits, and season 2 has started out pretty strong. am a sucker for Storage Wars and American Restoration, but they’re good fast-forward DVR shows to see how things turn out. And Dangerous Catch is rocking Opilio season; the King Crab season was kinda meh, but Opilio has been much better viewing.
I gave up on Burn Notice sometime last season, but may dive back into it again – can catch up on Netflix. and will catch the final six episodes of The Closer when it comes on in a few weeks. and will definitely check out The Newsroom – Sorkin and broadcast journalism, I’m in.
and there’s a new Masterpiece Mystery starting next week, about Morse’s nephew or something? any Masterpiece Mystery is must viewing – New Sherlock was great, Zen re-runs were so good I re-watched, Inspector Lewis, Wallander – they’re all stellar. Foyle’s War my all-time fave – find it on Netflix – stellar.
It’s cool if I’m the only one but anybody else watching American Ninja Warrior and getting pissed b/c they didn’t start that sh*t until my body had already been falling apart for 10 years or so?
hahah ya that show definitely makes you feel like an out of shape piece of shit. But this is definitely the best thing airing during the summer.
Catching up on Breaking Bad, cuase i lived under a rock for the last two years. I am on season 3 right now; which is starting off a little slow, but exploding trucks with illegal aliens is kind of cool.
Still watching True Blood. I had no idea they could make Tara more annoying on the show. Good job guys.
Has anyone watched Episodes on Showtime? I’m not a Matt LeBlanc fan, but anyone playing a parody of themselves should be ok, right?
Breaking Bad and any Mary Louise Parker fuck scenes from Weeds
Aside from re-watching The Wire, I’m pretty pumped about Wilfred and Louie coming back on.
You should give True Blood a try. The Louisiana accents are dead on. Not to mention the ray of sunshine that is Tara Thornton.
Three words: American Ninja Warrior. It’s on twice a week and always entertaining.
Besides that: Workaholics, Wilfred, and Metalocalypse (i miss the half hour episodes). Plus I finally watched Homeland and that was effin’ amazing. I think its better than Breaking Bad.
leverage (awesome show that gets no credit), falling skies and FUTURAMA!!!
I can’t even think about other TV shows because I’m so upset with your trashing of True Blood. Gah! I don’t even want to talk about i.
I have no idea if it’s coming back or not, but a second season of Death Valley would catch my attention.
I’m going to rewatch both seasons of Game of Thrones with a lady friend who hasn’t seen it, and I think I’m going to give Downton Abbey a shot.
I’m going to cancel cable and watch society go to hell in a hand basket.
I might even step forward and get involved in the fray.
Been watching a lot of Auction Hunters and Storage Wars.
