Now that Lane Pryce has — SPOILER! — joined the Great Fish and Chips Stand in the Sky, the man who played him, Jared Harris, has been very gabby. In an interview with The Daily, Harris talked about whether he thinks it’s Don’s fault that Lane killed himself (I blame the Mets pennant) and if the cast and crew threw him a going-away party. They didn’t, he said, because people leave “Mad Men” all the time, including Elisabeth Moss. Wait, what?
How did the cast send you off — was there a big going-away party?
They didn’t. You know, we’re always ending things. Actors are always ending jobs. It isn’t a big deal in that sense. Also other people had left the show that had been there since the beginning. Elisabeth [Moss] left the episode before and she’d been there since the beginning. Michael Gladis (Paul Kinsey) left in season three [though reappeared for one episode this season]… Bryan Batt. People leave and it’s just part of it. They didn’t make a giant fuss.
Oh, is Peggy dead from the show like Lane is?
Um…I have no idea what Matthew Weiner intends to do and even then I couldn’t tell you. (Via)
Now, we should all know better than to trust a Brit, and Weiner and AMC have neither confirmed or denied Harris’s comments, but IF it is true: NOOO. I’m not ready for 5,295 think pieces about what Don’s kiss really meant, and I CAN’T accept the idea of “Mad Men” without the money-counting, buttery handjob-giving, all-around awesome Peggy Olson. Don’t be a dick, Weiner: take away Betty instead.

I think she left the show only in the way that Joan left the show. I expect she’ll be gone until next season then we’ll maybe start off next year with a glimpse of her in her new job. And they’ve definitely got to have her go head-to-head with Don in a client pitch.
I can’t imagine that they’d write Peggy off for good. She’s way too great for that.
Poor Jared Harris, though. He’s died on network TV and cable in one season. Somebody get this man a pilot.
I’m going to miss him saying crazy things with that crazy accent of his. “Well, isn’t this a bugger of a situation, guvnah?”
I’ll miss him punching Pete Campbell.
I thought the end he met on Fringe was far too abrupt for such an important character. It was disappointing.
I think Don’s story is inevitably tied to Peggy’s, so she’ll be a factor in the next season.
Mad Men / Walking dead crossover: Layne Price is patient zero
You know some coked out producer is pitching that tomorrow.
“Our new clients want to schedule a lunch. Do you know if Tavern on the Green serves Brains?”
She should die off-screen and come back as a ghost in a dream.
I thought the way they shot her last scene made it seem like she isn’t coming back.
I think she’ll be back next year with a mini-arc (2-3 episodes) going against Don in some capacity.
“Don’t be a dick, Weiner”
…I see what you did there.
She’ll win a Cleo or Addy–probably for Jaguar after they leave SCDnoP–and walk by Sterling’s table with that “you smell like cigarettes and death” facial expression she uses most of the time.
Lane AND Peggy leaving? Not legit. Not legit at all.
