Asked by Vulture what show Vince Gilligan — the “Breaking Bad” creator — would want to do a crossover event with, Gilligan responded:
Mythbusters. I’d dig seeing those guys prove or disprove some of the crazy stuff we’ve done on Breaking Bad.
YES. How cool would that be? Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman could invite Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul onto the show and conduct experiments on several of the chemical devices that have been utilized on “Breaking Bad.” In particular, here are four experiments they could conduct in the episode:
1) Is Big Blue possible? Can you actually create 99.1% chemically pure crystal methamphetamine?
2) How quickly and completely can you dissolve a body using hydrofluoric acid? Actual bodies preferred.
3) I would like to see them try and experiment in which they purify castor beans into lethal Ricin and see how long it would actually take for someone to die after ingesting ricin? Again, an actual victim would be ideal. Finally;
4) Can you blow up an entire building with a rock of Mercury fulminate, like Walter did in this episode of “Breaking Bad”:
Best episode of “Mythbusters” ever.

The above scene is where Breaking Bad went from “this is an interesting premise that is really well acted” to “Holy shit! I am never missing an episode!”
And “One Minute” cemented it as the best show on TV.
#1 – of course. I mean, why wouldn’t it be possible to make pure meth? You can get prescription meth, (Desoxyn) after all. Even if you botch the synth, you can always purify what you end up with.
#2 – that would be a good ep
#3 – the big problem BB ignored is that ricin’s (lower-case “r”. It’s not a brand name) not very active orally. You’d need something like two grams of pure ricin to kill via ingestion.
#4 – I question both the ability for that about of mercury fulminate to make so large an explosion, as well as (the bigger problem) the ability to carry around anywhere near that amount without blowing yourself up.
And that’s why it needs a show.
#1- 99.1% though? Organic synthesis is notorious for successful reactions to have yields of 50% and below. A quick search says that one method of meth cooking has highest yields of 95% And how is Walt verifying 99.1% purity? Is he injecting samples in to a GC/MS? Where does he get the time to develop a method for that? That shit takes forever.
#2-How would Walt get HF acid anyway? That stuff is regulated and I doubt the high school will just order it and not question what for. Though I do want to see what happens if you put a carcass in a plastic tub of it. Google image search has pics of some skin burns and it ain’t pretty.
They did a GC/MS when down in Mexico, didn’t they?
This would appear to debunk the show’s use of mercury fulminate and back up Alvis: [www.explosci.com] Some interesting chemistry lessons there.
How hard would you have to work to start a dead car battery with brake pad dust, copper wiring, and galvanized metal?
What would happen if you tried to smoke or snort Mercury fulminate?
Rather than have Mythbusters do a Breaking Bad episode,
I would prefer to have a breaking bad episode where the Mythbusters invite Walter White to help them with some sort of chemistry experiment and Walt uses that as an opportunity to start moving his product into a new market in California.
