The Critic’s Choice Awards for television are fantastic. They get everything right. “Breaking Bad” is never snubbed (shame on you, Emmys), USA Network shows are never honored (shame on you, Golden Globes), and “Community” gets nominated all over the place. In fact, poor Yvette Nicole Brown and Chevy Chase are the only major cast members that aren’t nominated (even Dean Pelton gets a nod, though Ken Jeong is rightfully left off).
It’s not just “Community,” they get right, either. Take out “Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family” and replace them with “Louie” and “Happy Endings,” and the comedy noms are mostly spot-on, give or take. They do even better in the drama categories, save for their failure to nominate “Justified” as Best Drama (though, it’s hard to argue removing any of the existing nominees). Timothy Olyphant does rightfully get the respect he deserves, and so does Regina King (and Lucy Liu) from “Southland.” Now, there’s a brilliant show that rarely shows up around awards time.
It’s not perfect, but these nominations are about the best you can expect from an awards committee. Oh, and “Archer” and “Bob’s Burgers” in the animation category? Fantastic. Critics aren’t so bad, after all.
Here’s the full list of nominations. Abed is thrilled.

Don’t you think I still can’t find ways to bitch about this. Girls getting nominated for stuff? Naht a good precedent.
And where’s Adam Pally’s nomination? FOR SHAME.
Yep. Happy Endings actors got no love.
The wrong ones did. ADAM PALLY 4 ALL THE AWARDS 4EVA.
I don’t see Donald Glover’s name anywhere, either.
I also love that McNutty and Ayo String are facing one another for their awesome BBC shows.
You’re right. Glover was snubbed. SNUBBED.
How in the world did Alfie Allen NOT get a Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nom? That’s insane. I dare say he outperformed even Dinklage this year.
Couldn’t agree more. I know the noms were in well before the season finale, but his performance in the scene between Theon and Maester Luwin was fantastic.
That’s because Alfie’s a racist dragon.
Kinda hard to be racist when there’s only ONE black guy in all the seven kingdoms, according to the show.
No, no, there have been two black guys. There was the guy who was a shiftless thieving pirate and the guy who lied about his money, killed people, and shacked up with a whore. A wide range of role models there.
Xaro Xoan Ducksauce isn’t in the 7 kingdoms. Qarth is on a different continent (Essos).
That shiftless thieving pirate is ok by me though. NOT ENOUGH SCREEN TIME! This show needs 10 90 minute episodes.
OH MY GOD, SOMEBODY NOMINATED JOHN NOBLE, TOO. YES.
I had just assumed that you were on the awards committee and somehow personally made that happen.
The View (and the others) gets in ahead of The Colbert Report? Then again, if my biggest gripe doesn’t come until the second-to-last category, they must have done OK.
I love that Leno got left off the list. Deservedly so I might add but losing to the chicken coop of squaking hens that is the view? Welcome to ouchtown bro, population you!
Despite its slow start, Unsupervised was definitely better than the empty shell that used to be Family Guy
I second that.
Amen and goddammit.
Also I know the show has seen better days but Family Guy over South Park? For shame. Still a great list overall.
I came late to Unsupervised but both it and Bob’s Burgers pleasantly surprised me.
“Tom Bergeron (Dancing with the Stars)”
BROTHER OF MENELAUS!
Considering Dinklage is the only GoT acting nomination and the liberal spread for New Girl, Girls, and BBT, this isn’t exactly strong company overall.
Dammit, that’s Agamemnon!
Come on, critics, just do away with the “Reality Series” awards. You know you want to.
WHAT OF HOARDERS?!
Damn you, Critics Choice Awards, for making me choose between Roger Sterling and The Dink! You’ve made a powerful enemy today.
* Continues eating cereal in bathrobe *
Best Supporting Actor is LOADED. You’re forgetting the awesomeness of Gus and Jesse on Breaking Bad. It’s a shame that 3 of these guys aren’t going to win awards.
I agree with Jesus, that’s a damn good category. (GIVE THEM ALL THE AWARDS!)
But I want Gus to win. Jesse will get it next year.
I’ll reserve my bitching until the winners are announced.
Is Julie Bowen really a supporting actress?
Since there are, like, 10 people on that show and 21 minutes per episode, I think everyone is supporting, although what they’re supporting is certainly not comedy anymore.
Sorry, but Maggie Siff for Best Supporting Actress = your list is invalid.
+1 on Charlie Hunnam. As matt put it: “Chasing the ghost of season 3″
second that, if maggie siff is supporting then katey sagal is too.
THE VIEW?!
Love the banner pic. Love.
Bourdain should just walk away with the Reality award, no?
I was about to freak out about the lack of Sherlock but then I saw that they put it as a miniseries/movie. They totally miss out by not nominating supporting actors/actresses in those categories because then you miss out on Watson and Moriarty (both winner of BAFTAs btw…). Good lord that show satisfies me on so many levels (including those contained within my pants…)
no Donald Glover. thats a bummer. his reactions to things are what makes Community reruns so re-watchable to me.
lots of Sherlock on there, though. and that is a very good thing.
Also, how did Lara Pulver get nominated for Sherlock while Andrew Scott got left out. Different categories, I know, but still. Seems like they are missing categories for Supporting Actors in Miniseries. Pulver was not a leading actress, although she was fantastic as The Woman. But Andrew Scott’s Jim Moriarty is on the Rushmore of villains, in my opinion. SNUB!
The fact that Jere Burns got nominated for Wynn Duffy means that all is right in the world. So pumped about that.
Oh good, more critical acclaim for Girls. That ought to make the show’s fans easier to tolerate.
While this is nice, we’re really not going to be happy until Community is the only show nominated. And maybe the entire cast of Big Bang Theory is taken out into the back and beaten with baseball bats.
Random reality show opinion: Top Shot is f*ing great. A cannon? A cannon.
Here’s how I’d rank the Comedy noms:
1. Parks and Recreation
2. Community
3. Modern Family
4. Big Bang Theory
5. Girls
6. The New Girl
Bear in mind I have not watched Girls, but I’m pretty sure I’ll like it about 100 times more than The New Girl.
New Girl last? Looks like someones got some Schmidt on their face.
Here’s my idea for saving Modern Family. Get rid of everyone but Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen and their kids. Yes, even Gloria.
All of these nominations are valid. I would say more, but I’m still fixated on the puppy/teddybear from the last post.
Dustin, Breaking Bad wasn’t snubbed by the Emmy’s last year it was ineligible.
Oof. Best Drama is a murderers row. Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Mad Men. It’ll probably be even harder to choose btw all three next year!
Banner pic; fap-worthy.
I’m a modern family fan and I am thrilled to see ONLY Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell nominated for awards, it’s the way it should be. Sofia Vergara is not deserving of the nominations every other award show gives her, especially considering Julie holds the show together now for the women and is consistently fantastic…good for her.
Let us all hope that Paul Rudd gets best guest performer, so that we can get more Baawhbby Noooh-porrrt.
Even the critics awards nominates TBBT can’t you just give it a chance? CAN WE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!
The writing in this reaks of hate for anything mainstream. Take out Modern Family? Sure millions of people tune into that but at least it’s BRILLIANT. Why’s Ken Jeong left off? Cartoonish character or not, the guy is a tremendous comedic performer.
