Some old irrelevant guy who used to be kind of famous as a sidekick to more famous people told a dying print publication, The New York Post, that he thinks women aren’t funny. Adam Carolla — whose most notable work since living in the shadows of Dr. Drew Pensky and Jimmy Kimmel is as the voice of Burt the Cab in an episode of the Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” — told the Post that “dudes are funnier than chicks.” Asked if he hated working with women, Carolla — who had a failed CBS pilot in 2009 and a failed NBC pilot in 2010 — said:
No. But they make you hire a certain number of chicks, and they’re always the least funny on the writing staff. The reason why you know more funny dudes than funny chicks is that dudes are funnier than chicks. If my daughter has a mediocre sense of humor, I’m just gonna tell her, “Be a staff writer for a sitcom. Because they’ll have to hire you, they can’t really fire you, and you don’t have to produce that much. It’ll be awesome.”
Huh. So, this guy doesn’t have a lot of respect for women? And we care because … ? I thought about working up a rant about Adam Carolla’s chauvinism, but then I thought, Why? Who cares? Why is anyone even paying attention to this guy? Seriously, folks, as soon as you appear as a contestant on “Celebrity Apprentice,” you lose the right to have your opinion validated. And Carolla has a twofer in the washed-up celebrity category: He was also a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars.” He’s an addiction problem away from a celebrity rehab show.
Adam Carolla is like the poor man’s Norm McDonald, and Norm McDonald hasn’t been relevant in 20 years. Carolla has had two failed sitcoms that weren’t even picked up from pilot and he’s slamming female sitcom writers? Really? It wasn’t women who wrote his failed sitcom pilots? It’s fitting that he’s expressing opinions about women that might have been “shocking” a decade ago because that’s the last time anyone gave a sh*t about Adam Carolla. Now? Whatever. I’d give more weight to the blathering emptiness rattling around inside of a Kardashian’s brain space.

Crapping on Adam is one thing, but crapping on Norm? That’s a paddlin’.
“This week, Disney released a new CD featuring a rapping Mickey Mouse. To avoid controversy, the CD will not include the controversial hit single “Cat Killer.”
My thoughts exactly. Norm gets a lifetime pass thanks to his ESPY hosting gig alone.
Agreed. Norm is hallowed ground.
Norm on the Daily Show making fun of the Crocodile Hunter’s recent death was fantastic. He had Jon Stewart in tears.
BRING BACK SPORTS SHOW
Good God that’s a sexy camel!
Indeed. Norm is the shit. Just because they both voiced Death on Family Guy (the difference being quite severe) doesn’t make them analogous. Carolla is the poor man’s GILBERT GOTTFRIED.
Norm is as relevant as ever. Nobody watches The Middle (but you should!) He shows up as Jan Itor’s brother once in a while. Classic Norm.
Well said.
I think he’s right, but only from the stand point that funny women dont usually have jokes that I can relate to. so not to say that there have never been any funny women, or women arent funny, but the vast majority dont say funny things that I find funny.
amy shumer rules though, so does tig nagaro (is that how it is… did I get that name right? maybe I should have googled it… oh well.)
If you don’t care than why write this post?
Slow news day?
Um, you still have time to work up a rant about Adam Carolla’s chauvinism
Do your homework Dustin – you’re embarrassing yourself. Carolla has the #1 podcast in the world and runs the Ace Network with a full lineup of other podcasts…… Penn Jilette, etc.
New media. You should look it up.
The #1 podcast thing is pretty misleading because it’s based on total downloads. Seeing as he is one of the only daily podcasts available, it throws the numbers off quite a bit. Because for every one Comedy Bang! Bang! or WTF podcast, there are 5 that same week for Carolla.
Also, please see the TV Ratings for Two and Half Men/Big Bang Theory vs. Parks & Rec/Community.
Popular doesn’t equal good.
He has Penn Jilette working for him! He has seen the mountaintop, and it is glorious.
@ David
it is a hell of a lot less misleading than ” whose most notable work since living in the shadows of Dr. Drew Pensky and Jimmy Kimmel is as the voice of Burt the Cab in an episode of the Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place””
Definitely a fair point, Paul.
Pointing out Carolla’s shitty work is a way of saying that not everything everyone does is gold. But, no, it’s totally okay for Carolla’s handful of experiences to judge 51% of the population.
I haven’t had any failed sitcoms and I don’t think women are that funny either. I still respect them. I don’t think Carolla said he didn’t respect women, he just said they aren’t as funny as men. I do like how you downed his career though, “This guy has had 2 failed sitcoms! What does he know about comedy? psssshahahah I’m a blogger! I know the funny!” Remember this the next time you write about the next Community cancellation scare. What does Community know about being funny if it gets canceled, amiright?
To be fair, there’s a pretty big difference between “shot a pilot that didn’t get picked up” and “got cancelled after four seasons”.
I always love it when a never was makes fun of the has been.
Of course there are funny women…… Shumer, Sarah Silverman, etc. But in general c’mon. We all know guys have a quicker wit and better sense of humor.
OH BOY.
If there was a book titled “Female Legends of Comedy” it would be a very short book. Also, men are better athletes than women.
Moms Mabley sez you can suck her black ass
Anyone who says “women aren’t funny” or anything along those lines can go get bent in the most violent manner possible. It’s 2012, you cretins. If you don’t “get” their jokes, that shit’s on you.
I get the jokes, but most of the jokes just aren’t funny.
Go starve.
so if I dont like dane cooks jokes, that means its my fault I dont find him funny?
and what does the year have to do with anything? was 2008 the first year women were able to legally be funny or something?
Yeah Chris. you should die because of your comedic tastes.
Danger I agree with most everything you say, but I don’t think Carolla was saying “women aren’t funny” it seems like he was saying men are funnier than women. Of course there are funny women, but Carolla thinks that men are funnier. It’s two different arguments and an important distinction to make before we start yelling at each other.
Thank you, Danger.
Now I’m just going to back out of this post before I give myself a headache.
@ Drew – I get that. I was more responding to some of these very enlightened comments.
@Danger Gotcha. In that case, carry on.
Thanks Danger.
What other opinions should I have?
Paul, you’re a misogynist if you don’t think women are exactly as funny as men. And you’re a racist if you don’t support Obama.
Wow… That last comment, was… Warming Glow what happened to you ?
I just wanted to remind DG to do his homework, I want my Franklin&Bash recap’ !
Women aren’t as funny as men. Its not sexist to say that. Why are people funny? Comedy is used to discuss things that would otherwise never be discussed. Comedy is used to bring people over to your cause, to make people feel comfortable and have fun. Women don’t have to do that. They can say pretty much whatever they want and get away with it because they have vaginas. If you see a girl cracking up a group of guys, you can assume two things. 1) she’s attractive 2) at least one of the people laughing wants to have sex with her. Women in general get an easier time in life. Not because people don’t think they can handle hardships, but because men are hardwired to assist them. Growing up its hammered into your brain.
There are funny women out there, Tina Fey breaks the mold on most things, but for every Tina Fey there is a Lisa Lampanelli. For every Seinfeld talking about airline peanuts there is a Janeane Garofalo talking about her period. Don’t try to take the high road and pretend there is some huge issue here, and that everyone who doesn’t agree with you is a cretin. So save your crocodile tears and phony outrage.
Hey, Fadeproof, remember that time you said: Women in general get an easier time in life.? Dude.
Jesus. I don’t usually post, but this comments thread is making me depressed so I figured I’d join the defense. Carolla’s whole argument is retarded. Some women are funny and some aren’t, just like some men are funny and some aren’t. Anyone who thinks women aren’t funny at all is sexist, that’s all there is to it. Regardless, its stupid in the first place that people are paying attention to what Carolla’s saying. He’s a provacateur. He says politically incorrect shit because its funny that he’s being politically incorrect. He’s gotten in trouble for shit like this all the time but as Uproxx showed before with “Vince v. ‘Nerd Girls,’” feminists are not a group to fuck with. Paying attention to Carolla’s purposely retarded comments just give them more weight than they should have. Alright. That’s enough. Also, DG rules and Josh/Dustin Blow.
adam has made me laugh 500x more than anything on this site. that’s all i’m saying
^ And thank the good Lord you said it! That comment was absolutely interesting enough to warrant creating an account.
Chicks aren’t as good at peeing standing up.
But it’s funny to watch them try, so looks like Carolla is wrong.
Carolla is right. I can name a hundred funny guys before I can name 10 funny women.
I seriously doubt that you could name 100 funny guys. I have no doubt you couldn’t name 10 funny women. Not because there aren’t that many, just because you couldn’t name 10 of them.
Hey, don’t sell Tron short. He fights for the users.
Adam Carolla exists in a comedy sphere with the likes of Opie & Anthony; a sphere I don’t find remotely entertaining. (There are comedians that are on the periphery who I *do* like – the late Patrice O’Neal, for instance.) Early “Man Show” was great because it seemed pretty tongue-in-cheek. Then, it abandoned subtly lampooning knuckle-draggers for outright pandering. Kimmel always seemed smarter – and funnier – than Carolla, which is probably why he’s famous-er.
In the end, how much stock can you take in the opinions of a guy nearing 50 that still talks about “dudes” and “chicks”?
I think women in comedy are unfairly judged by all the unfunny ones that seem to be famous (Whitney Cummings, Lisa Lampenelli, etc.). Just because the most famous female comedians aren’t funny doesn’t mean that women in general aren’t funny.
I think some of this is pandering on Carolla’s part based on his audience, but he doesn’t really deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Books don’t sell themselves.
Aw, somebody wants attention.
“And we care because … ? …Why? Who cares? Why is anyone even paying attention to this guy?”
you tell us, you wrote the fucking post, dummy.
Point!
+1
It’s sort of like calling someone and telling them you’re giving them the silent treatment.
The post had to be written so that AC could be called out as insensitive for having an opinion. Note that the post said nothing along the lines of rebuttal, such as “Tina Fey or Chelsea Handler are funny”, but instead only took pot shots. I like to read most of the uproxx blogs, but I do hate when they go out of the way to try to and defend some moral high ground. You are a blogger that writes about what is on TV. Hell, I dont like it when people that are ON TV try to preach about how we should all think and live our lives, much less someone who only blogs about those people. Seriously, stop taking yourself so seriously and realize that people come to this website to escape and have a few laughs, not as a primer to proper social awareness and political correctness. Do what you like, but I would be careful about falling down that trap of “I defend your right to have an opinion, as long as it is the same as mine”.
“I defend your right to have an opinion, as long as it is the same as mine”.
Perfectly said. People need to stop being so goddamned sensitive. Carolla isn’t oppressing anybody so his opinion is just an opinion.
We have the right to have an opinion. He has the right to have a different opinion. We have the right to respond to his opinion with a new opinion of our own, that he’s a douchebag. What’s making you nimrods think that any part of that is “wrong” or “oversensitive”?
Note: I’m not saying that you and Carolla don’t have the right to express the opinion that WG is oversensitive.
I read his book – he said the same thing, so this isn’t exactly breaking news. To be fair, while I don’t agree w/ everything he says, his book was pretty freaking hilarious.
And the funniest thing Sarah Silverman has done is be threatened by Ryan Phillipe.
apparently female comics and all the suck ups falling over themselves to defend their honor are unfamiliar with the concept of the lady protesting too much. i expect dustin rowles to write an apoplectic and tone deaf attack piece on carolla that misses the point and adds nothing new or remotely interesting to the conversation, writing shitty blog posts is what dustin does best, but everyone else needs to relax. carolla rants nonstop and bitches about all manner of things all the time. its usually pretty fucking funny, though sometimes he goes beyond offensive and funny and goes one step too far. its not a big fucking deal. calm down. if women have such great sense of humor (and they obviously do) then they can take a fucking joke. you can disagree with what carolla said with out spazzing out like a weepy vagina about it. carolla insulted women comedy writers, he didn’t beat his wife. god damn.
well said
Who knew there were this many Adam Corrolla fanboys?
I know, right? This comments section of this post has more logical fallacies than most politcal blogs.
So many of them are avatar-less, too. A correlation that strong seems like it must mean something.
Nevermind, the correlation totally broke down further on in the thread.
I am not a Carolla fan. I just agree with him on this. Also, when did having a successful sitcom mean you were totes funny? AINT NO ONE FUNNY UNLESS YOU GET A SITCOM!
Having a boring pile of shit on CBS automatically makes someone funny.
This isn’t a new idea. Nor does it automatically make you a misogynist to think it.
Great link/article.
THIS
Yah, I was waiting to see someone post that…
Upon further consideration, I believe this blog post is a troll in an effort to get a response from Adam Carolla, which is far sadder than Carolla’s celebrity status or the statement he made.
I really liked The Hammer
SOME MEN ARE FUNNY, SOME MEN AREN’T FUNNY. SOME WOMEN ARE FUNNY, SOME WOMEN AREN’T FUNNY. And I’m backing away from all THIS.
You know a MAN wrote that scene.
And what a man.
A woman wrote “purple-monkey dishwasher,” though.
What he said.
I’m going to go find a trampoline to jump on.
tramampoline
Trabompoline!
He said dudes are funnier than chicks. Whats the problem? Its true. Its like saying black people are better at basketball than white people except more obvious. Thats not to say women are not funny, just that men are funnier. In many ways its a part of nature, our societal need to procreate and men to perform to get the attention of women. It is like brightly coloured feathers in Birds of Paradise. It is a way of gaining attention for man down through the years. With society changing women have found a freedom to express themselves through comedy with some stellar work taking place, from the likes of Fey, Wiig, Poehler etc, but comparing the female ouvre of comedy with its male counterpart is a losing battle.
Sometimes Rowles you get your feminazi panties bunched up so tightly that it must prevent you from thinking straight. I have always thought of you as the type of guy who would adopt his wifes surname/family name when you got married.
“Don’t blame me, I’m just a girl” – now THAT’s funny.
Now let’s forget our troubles with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream!
You’re kind of cherry-picking his comments. Carolla didnt seem to be saying that no women are funny, rather he was saying it in terms of a numbers game – that there are more funny men than there are funny women. You left out the following paragraph:
“I don’t care. When you’re picking a basketball team, you’ll take the brother over the guy with the yarmulke. Why? Because you’re playing the odds. When it comes to comedy, of course there’s Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey, Kathy Griffin — super-funny chicks. But if you’re playing the odds? No.”
If that first sentence had been all Carolla said, would you have written this post? Would you seriously be arguing about what a dick he is saying that Jews aren’t as good at basketball as black people? No, you’d shrug your shoulders and say “yeah, that sounds right.”
Doesn’t negate how icky everything else he said was.
Any kind of blanket statements, like the ones he made, aren’t really a sign of enlightened thinking. I think about them this way – just replace “women” with “black” and “funny” for “smart.”
“always the least funny on the writing staff”
So hosting a Guiness World Record podcast that has passed 60 million downloads is considered doing nothing?
By that logic Dustin, can you tell me what the hell you do?
Him and DG go around dealing death to people who don’t watch comedies on Lifetime.
I GETS MY PODCAST DOWNLOADED. THEREFORE I CAN BE SEXIST.
Totally what he was saying. You’re good at reading comprehension and stuff.
@ mjer – *He* and DG.
@junker
How you got that from my comment baffles me.
@DG, I’ll say it however I want…even if you’re the death merchant of proper grammar as well.
Reading comprehension and proper grammar aren’t the same DG.
I didn’t. It’s just that whatever the hell people’s accomplishments are really shouldn’t matter in this whole thing.
Though, bringing up female comics that’re more successful than this Carolla fella, I’ll allow it.
That’s nothing. Writing inaccurate and unfunny blog posts is doing something, though.
@junker
it matters in the context of how I brought it up.
Nowhere did i say he has 60 million downloads he can say whatever he wants. Looking through the comments I dont see where anyone has made that argument.
I think you just thought it would be something cute to write in all caps.
I think Dustin’s point was stupid and I think podcasts as a measuring stick of success is stupid. Therefore, I made a stupid comment. THIS IS ALL STUPID, BUT IS IN ALL CAPS, AND THEREFORE “CUTE.”
Humans are generally not funny. Sure, there are some humans that are funny, but compared to dogs? Fuhgedabouit.
Agreed. I can’t remember the last time I saw a human lick their own balls
Well, you are doing the wrong google searches
I’m not going to defend the quote, because if I’d just read that without knowing any of the context or being familiar with Carolla’s style, I’d think he was an idiot too. That being said, I think that thanks to a lot of editing and a particular style of question, the people who never understood that the Man Show was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek finally got the misogynist-sounding quote they’ve been trying to pull out of Adam Carolla for 15 years.
Also, as far as him being Dr. Drew’s sidekick, Dr. Drew did Loveline for years before Carolla came along and no one gave a shit about it then, and now that Carolla’s gone it’s a lot less popular, so what does that tell you. Adam definitely says things that make him seem like a jackass now and then, but I sort of hate the culture where we just wait for someone to say something unenlightened so everyone can spew their righteous indignation. Yes, I know I’m part of that culture. It still sucks.
But it’s just soooooooo much fun being up here on this high horse. Don’t make me come down!
Yeah, don’t ruin righteous indignation spewing for us, jerk. It makes us feel as if we’re contributing to society.
+100
One of my favorite moments ever on radio was when someone called into Loveline and Adam hung up on him after saying “What do you want from us? You got two guys who don’t care and a band.”
The only two comments I wanted on this post were a Hitchens link and one from Vince. So…. Thanks!
Sorry I’m late to the party, I had to drive slow because this shit storm is limiting visibility, and my wipers are old. Anywho,
+1 for Mancini for bringing reason to the party,
Adam Carolla probably shouldn’t of said that, but his podcast is still really good listening.
Norm MacDonald is untouchable, internet rule #467
There’s bigger things in the world to pissed about, like for instance, I was let go at work because they found out that they could get Intern’s to do my job for free.
The funniest thing to me is people shitting on the various dudebros who write the posts here. “U stupid bloggerz wtf do U do??? he is famouz!!” This is what bloggers do. They write about things. They even have opinions. Yours may differ. Doesn’t make you special. Example: I don’t care about Adam Carolla one way or another. But I’m inclined to agree with Dustin. Doesn’t really change anything one way or another.
If Louis CK had said this no one would give a shit.
The difference is though that Louis CK would never say something like this.
Actually, if Louis CK had said this, more shit would be given because he is more relevant.
+1 Lance.
If you ask Greta he has said much much worse.
NOTE: I find her comments on CK as asinine as I find this article on Carolla
If Louis CK had said it though, he would have made it funny. Look, if you’re gonna be offensive, you better be hilarious doing it. I don’t make the comedy rules but I know Carolla can’t pull that shiz off. Btw, female here and generally, I find female comedians funnier. I assumed guys find guys funnier so I’m not sure why some guys on here don’t also assume the reverse.
Well-said, brownies.
Why do we care what Adam Carolla thinks? I mean really.
‘Cause the internet.
Dude, he’s Burt the Cab. He is a comedy legend.
Rather than go into my beliefs one way or another I’ll just say a few things about Carolla.
I both like and hate him. As they’re fond of pointing out on KROQ in LA (where he first came to prominence in LA), he’s a good guest because he has an opinion on EVERYTHING. Literally there is nothing you can toss at him that he won’t instantly have an idea about.
That said, he says something like this at least once a week. He’s a regular guest on the morning show with a feature called “This week in rage” where he finds 3 things to rant about that are every day things. I routinely think he’s way off about at least one per week.
For example, this week he went off about how he’s tired of people telling him to watch Game of Thrones and how the excuse for watching things like I, Claudius and “tolerating” the setting was boobs. Now that they’re everywhere he doesn’t need to watch these things.
Obviously, he’s missing the point for various reasons, but that’s his shtick! He finds something, forms an opinion, and gets a mixture of “F-Yea!” and “What an @hole” from his audience.
I’m actually surprised this is even on anyone’s radar because it’s so par-for-thecourse.
I think it’s a matter of perspective as well. Women are going to think that women comics are funnier because it’s easier to relate to someone of your own sex and men are going to find male comics funnier for the same reason. Of course there are some people that are naturally funny to both sexes, but there are also far more men in the comedy game than women and I’d say more male comedy fans, so by the numbers it could seem that men are “funnier” in the comedy world, but it’s probably just because there are more of them. I don’t have statistics or anything, I’m just saying.
YOU DID THIS DG! [twitter.com]
Hahaha
The most offensive part of all of this is that Carolla called Kathy Griffin funny.
In the words of Rick James..”That is absurd!!”
Yeah. Agreed.
Perhaps it would be more relevant to ask “What shows has Adam Carolla been a writer for?” and “Where those shows funny?” since the whole point that Carolla was making was that, in his opinion, women comedy writers are “always” the worst writers in the room. What show’s he’s been on or what podcasts etc are irrelevant to the point at hand.
A quick IMDB search shows that Carolla wrote for “Crank Yankers”, “The Man Show”, & “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. Two of the three shows (CY and TMS) are so male-centric that it should be painfully obvious that any woman writing for those shows would likely be the “least funny” in the room. I put that in quotes because if you’ve ever seen either of them, you know that these shows weren’t exactly “Community” or “Louie”.
So based on Carolla’s limited experience in television writing, which has been confined to a pretty narrow brand of humor — sure, women would be the least funny. Honestly, I don’t know many women who find crank calls and large breasted women jumping on trampolines funny.
None of that, however, makes him right in his assertion that women aren’t funny or get hired on sitcoms to fill a quota. It just means that if your writing dick jokes, it helps to have a dick.
Not that I’ve seen Adam’s failed pilots, but I get the feeling that the premise of each was that Adam was a wise-cracking father of some sort, and and his family was essentially comprised of one-dimensional characters that are only around to set up his punchlines. What a SHOCK that he held a woman’s sense of humor at zero value, when all of his comedy is really about himself.
It’s also VERY telling that he’s forced to hire women writers, because it’s an admission that he’s never bothered to try and find funny women on his own, and just take on whoever the network throws at him. That’s hardly a recipe for success in the comedy world.
To play Devil’s advocate here, the point he makes about quota hires can be valid. While it’s important to encourage diversity in a workforce, when people are forced to hire a person from category X as opposed to choosing the most eligible candidate they can be forced to make compromises in quality.
That said, he does say they’re always the least funny in the room which certainly makes my douche alarm go off slightly. Though to be fair, 98% of sitcoms are completely terrible so I’d say the bar for “least funny sitcom writer in the room” is pretty low. Women are probably the least funny because they have no dicks for whipping out and playing helicopter.
I think it should be a combination of both diversity and eligibility when it comes to writing. A good writing team has to have enough diversity to have more perspectives, but they also have to be smart. A writing team full of smart white men won’t be as effective as a writing team full of smart men and women of different ethnicities.
Of course, that’s just the best case scenario.
Definitely true. No matter how well someone thinks they know another portion of society’s perspective, it’s not the same as actually being a member of that part of society. If you truly want differing perspectives in there, it can’t be a homogenous group.
Lost amidst your sass is the simple fact that he is a very popular author and radio host, and the quote lacks the full context. But then again, you get paid to write snarky things about people with actual talent. So what do I know?
To be fair, he also is the voice of Death in that Simpsons rip-off that all the kids seem to like.
That’s I’ll I got to say.
Yeah, but Norm was the original voice of Death on that show. Adam replaced him later
whats ironic about the female response to this is they have yet to say anything funny. lots of anger. no humor- just proving his point.
Well of course they aren’t posting funny things…..the topic isn’t about their periods or relationships.
Carolla is as hyperbolic as they come. To paint him as a sexist, shows that you just needed something to post about and found this to comment on. God this place has fallen apart since Matt left.
BRING BACK MATT.
I’m with Adam on this one. There are some incredibly funny women out there, I will give you that, but in general women are not as funny as men are.
And man, there is nothing on earth more obnoxious than a woman thinks she is funny. They are just terrible. And this happens because her friends tell her she’s funny, because her friends also have terrible senses of humor.
And this is coming from someone who enjoys the company of women a great deal….and not because they are funny, but because they are awful catty bitches….which I happen to find incredibly funny.
Adam Carolla is the Joe Rogan of comedy.
I thought Joe Rogan was the Joe Rogan of comedy. I’m so confused now.
@poon
YOu are mistaken. Joe Rogan is Larry Merchant of MMA.
Blanket statements are wrong, and you’re stupid if you don’t fall over laughing at every episode of Community.
I don’t fall over laughing at every episode of Community…if this makes me stupid…so be it. Mediocre network comedies are not useful tools as societal benchmarks.
So, that chair in the lower right. Who is he tying to that chair?
I hate posts that make nothing but ad hominem attacks on the source of a stupid quote rather than the inanity of the quote itself. It was so much lazier to personally attack Carolla rather than bring up one of hundreds of examples why he was completely wrong.
Man it took way too long for me to login for this. I’ve never been wild about Adam, I mean I don’t hate him but I never really tuned into Loveline to hear him. In fact, back in the day I enjoyed listening to Dr. Drew’s advice on there and would get pissed because half the time Adam would go off a damn tangent when I want to hear what the Dr. says about that limp penis. So to me, in that regard, the only thing I really know him for (I barely watched the man show) he was kind of annoying to me. But I sounds like I’m one of the few that were probably listening to Loveline for boner advice.
I used to love watching Loveline on MTV because of Catherine McCord, Carmen Electra and even Diane Farr. Plus they had some hot female guests.
And I actually found Adam Carolla pretty funny….but I also watched for the boner advice too. Only listened to the radio show a few times though.
It makes sense that Adam Carolla has never worked with a funny woman. I don’t see how any funny woman would want anything to do with Adam Carolla. He’s terrible. His jokes are easy and unimaginative. Any woman(or man) would have to be desperate or just as terrible to even take a job that involves him.
uhhhh……Jimmy Kimmel / The Man Show…so Jimmy Kimmel was desperate?
Back then he probably was. That was one of the first projects he did. I don’t blame him for taking an opportunity early in his career. He clearly benefited from it more than Carolla, and rightfully so.
After watching Bridesmaids and episodes of 30 Rock and Parks & Recreations…Adam Corolla was right.
Obviously we need more page views, so lets have an episode of “Warming Glow’s White Male Guilt Attacks _____” Look, I don’t particularly care for Carrola, and there are plenty of hilarious women in comedy, but this is just stupid. If you didn’t like what he had to say, you should have just paid it no attention. You posting it here brought it to the attention of, I’d guess, the vast majority of the people who are reading this site right now. I’m sorry that a member of your race/sex made an insensitive comment that you now feel the need to attack it as an apology device to the world, but you should probably leave the attack work to the ladies at Jezebel. They really like doing it, and are much better at dismantling the thoughts and actions of white men than you are.
I am somewhat glad that Carolla did this, because it shows me just how many bigoted jackasses I can ignore.
Saying that women aren’t as funny as men makes the assumption that “funny” is some kind of solid, unchanging entity, when in reality it’s constantly evolving. And the evolution is moving away from “what dudes find funny” to “what EVERYONE finds funny.” I’m a dude, and I’ll probably consider someone with a similar sense of humor to mine to be funnier than someone else, but that doesn’t mean my perception is the same as everyone’s, or more valid than anyone else. If you don’t think women are funny, that says more about your perspective than it does about women.
Funny isn’t a competition; it’s an exploration of ourselves. If you don’t find women funny, then you probably don’t regard them as equals, and that’s YOUR problem to fix.
Of all the people who attacked Corolla and/or his comments, I think you’re the first person to actually make a coherent point. Well done, dudebro.
In the words of Tina Fey: “We don’t actually give a fuck if you think we’re funny or not.”
But since women never really say what they mean…then Tina Fey does care if we think she is funny…right? If a woman says she doesn’t care what you think…she does care…a lot. Anyone who has a vagina or has spent time occupying one knows this.
This is similar to what Mindy Kaling said at the end of her book – that talking about whether women are funny or not is tacit agreement that there’s a debate worth having. “I try to not make it a habit to seriously discuss nonsensical hot-button issues”
I believe I have a silver bullet for this argument: BRING BACK MATT.
That is all.
I actually think Carolla’s kinda funny (though Kimmel’s funnier). As for the men vs. women, it’s not that men are funnier. They just think they’re funnier. Plus a lot of women actually go out of their way to have no sense of humor whatsoever that doesn’t involve saying something bitchy about another woman’s hair/clothes/shoes/ass/tits. Most women don’t try to be funny because being funny is a guy thing, still, like barbecuing and watching gigantic TVs. The truth is, MOST people aren’t funny. And the least funny of all are the ones who think they’re goddam hilarious.
I offer as proof that men think they’re funnier – the best man’s toast at virtually every wedding. They are never ever as funny as the guy thinks it is.
i like how 2/3rds of this post was dustin just attacking carolla’s credibility, but none of it was actually providing examples of funny women writers
He was just trying to show that sometimes men can be catty complaining little bitches too.
I love all of the unfunny tweets about Adam Carolla’s article, inadvertently proving his point.
people shouldn’t use chelsea handler as an example of a funny woman
You know, Warming Glow turned into a sensationalist blog so gradually, I didn’t even notice. Mr. Rowles, your silence will only incriminate you further. No, Mr. Rowles, don’t take your anger out on me. Get back! GET BACK M…mr. Rowles! nooooooooooooo
I got here late and read most of almost all of these comments–the wife had to work late and I’m bored, apparently–and the only thing I took away from all this that Dustin is currently banging Margaret Cho.
Favorite thread ever.
On this site.
i love how the author was trashing adam’s career thus losing all credibility. All he is is a pitiful blogger. a blogger has to be the lowest job on any kind of totem pole. if you knew anything about humor you would be writing a screenplay instead of feeling sorry for yourself and taking it out on someone more successful than you.
This post is weak for several reasons:
1) Who cares what he thinks? Then why make a post about it? Also, 160+ comments as I’m writing this shows a lot of your readers care.
2) You never actually refute what he says. You take some silly little jabs at him (accuracy be damned) but you fail to make an intelligent counter argument. Which is really a crappy job by you since there are so many (there are even one or two in the comments section)
3) You make fun of him for not having his sitcoms picked up, but half the posts on this site are about how terrible network TV and Americans are because crappy, mindless sitcoms and soulless TV “personalities” get all the air time while good, well written, and inventive shows are rejected (which I agree with). You can’t have it both ways.
Dustin did you even see that episode of Wizards of Waverly Place before trashing it? The Burt the Cab arc was really some of their best work.
Carolla is god
