Game of Thrones (HBO, Sunday) – Season finale. SEASON FINALE?! But that means it’s ENDING! How can it be ending when it feels like it just started?! Holy crap. What am I supposed to do with my Sundays from now on? At least I have “Mad Men.”
Mad Men (AMC, Sunday) – The fifth season’s penultimate episode. Wait, but “penultimate” means SECOND TO LAST! What is going on?! WHY DOES EVERYTHING I LOVE LEAVE ME?
Best Friends Forever (NBC, Friday) – The last episodes of this show are airing back-to-back tonight. It was a really promising comedy that NBC buried, killed, and is now burning off two at a time on a Friday night in June. A+ work all around, Peacock.
Miss USA Pageant (NBC, Sunday) – Which one is this? Is this the Donald Trump one? I’m rooting for whichever contestant would make him saddest.
The Glades/Longmire (A&E, Sunday) – Season premiere of “The Glades,” and series premiere of “Longmire,” a show about a Wyoming lawman. Sorry, “Longmire,” there’s only room for one frontier television lawman in my life, and he lives in Harlan.
Veep/Girls (HBO, Sunday) – The thing I like about “Veep” — besides the fact that it is a great TV show — is all the news stories about whether or not that’s what it’s really like to be vice president, often with quotes from someone in Joe Biden’s office. I bet that person loves their job. “Yeah, no. It’s a TV show. Uh huh, yeah. Fiction. What? No, fiction is the made-up one. You’re thinking of biographies.”
MTV Movie Awards (MTV, Sunday) – Hosted by Russell Brand. My expert prediction is that Twilight and The Hunger Games will win dozens of awards that will be presented to them by people I have never heard of.

I’m late to the party (if there is one), but how is WG feeling about Girls? It’s not perfect but I’ve found myself looking forward to it every weekend.
I think it’s been a little hit and miss, but pretty good overall. But every time you mention “Girls” on the Internet five thousand people yell and scream about it as though their own opinion was the undisputed Word of God, so, you know, you can look forward to that.
I think Girls gets so many strong opinions — for a very bland show that doesn’t seem to be making much of a statement at all — is that there’s a large segment of misogynists on the internet, and a large segment of feminists as well, and for whatever reason have made this show the battlefield for their pointless pissing war.
I agree with the hit-and-miss. There’s an almost total lack of story, but it’s still charming and has some good lines. Comes very close to overdoing the pop culture references but keeps from being annoying. If Chuck Klosterman was a twentysomething female, this would be his show.
And the backlash towards it is almost definitely for being a female-centric show. It’s sort of a guy defense mechanism to get pissed when we see women doing something that men normally do. Lena Dunham created, produces, writes, directs, and stars in her own HBO series with very little for credentials, and that makes people jealous and suspicious. If she was attractive too, we would have some real wars going on.
Thanks for the heads up on BFF. I thought it was pretty funny, and the two leads were really good on Comedy Bang Bang a few months ago.
HOUSE OF THE UNDYIIIIIIIIING.
I’m not sure how awesome they can make HotU and not confuzle the heck out of non-readers. I just hope Drogon got a little bigger in the past few weeks and burns the muthaeffer down.
Plus there are a lot of other storylines that need some sorting out so I’d be suprised if this scene is very close to the book at all.
In either case we get 64 minutes of awesome before another off season.
Yeah, I was expecting to be disappointed, but it exceeded my expectations. Of disappointment.
No complaints whatsoever about it, yes it was very different, but definitely served the on-screen purpose. Well done imo
The differences is just part of the perks of getting to read it first..
WHY DOES EVERYTHING I LOVE LEAVE ME?
Oh, God, Saracen, if you’re going to start crying again, I’m outta here.
Bye bye, Andy Samberg.
In regards to the season finale of “Game of Thrones” … what the tits?!
I was hoping for a more epic House of the Undying scene.
I think the entire House of the Undying scene should have been accompanied by a scroll saying “Look, we blew the CGI budget last week. Fuck off, we’re doing the best we can”
Also trying to wrap up 6(?) story lines in one episode may not have been the best idea
Clearly they used the episode’s budget on ice zombies. Because zombies are all the rage these days; the kids love ‘em. Granted, they were cool-looking zombies (and the Others were spooky) but that shit doesn’t even happen until book 3!
Wrapping up storylines was really the issue. Also, moving pictures will always be different from books because “moving pictures” and “books.” Have to be judged separately and apart from one another.
Unbelievably psyched for next season, so much so that I’m reading the books now because I am an impatient sh*t and cannot wait until then.
FSJ, be prepared for a lot of “Hey wait, isn’t that guy dead already/still alive as you read the books. That said, while last night wasn’t all that good, and while the show is meandering steadily away from the books, (and while the ice zombies just, just…fuck it, they didn’t happen), I’m enjoying the hell out of both and can’t wait for next season.
