Summer TV is largely a wasteland, save what you can find on the premium cable networks and a few of the better cable networks: AMC, FX, TNT. But the network offerings are dreadful, so dreadful in fact that — among the 18-49 demographic — Univision programming fares better than most shows on the big four (the Spanish-language network has seven shows in the top 25). Otherwise, it’s almost all reality shows and reruns. Seriously, it is the pits.
Here’s last week’s top 25 shows in the 18-demo: How many did you watch?
1. American’s Got Talent (Tuesday)
2. American’s Got Talent (Monday)
3. So You Think You Can Dance
4. Hell’s Kitchen (Monday)
5. Masterchef (Monday)
6. American Ninja Warrior
7. The Bachelorette
8. Big Bang Theory (R)
9. Masterchef (Tuesday)
10. Hell’s Kitchen (Tuesday)
11. The Choice
12. 2 Broke Girls (R)
13. Que No Podia Amar (Tuesday)
14. Que No Podio Amar (Thursday)
15. Que No Podio Amar (Monday)
16. America’s Got Talent (Sunday)
17. Que No Podio Amar (Wednesday)
18. Love in the Wild
19. Two and a Half Men (R)
20. Family Guy (R)
21. Que No Podio Amar (Firday)
22. Abismo De Passsion (Tuesday)
23. Extreme Weight Loss
24. Person of Interest (R)
25. The Mentalist (R)
Also, if you’re curious, “Community” reruns in their new timeslot — Friday, after “Whitney” — are receiving around 1.8 million viewers. Among the big four, only a “House” rerun fared worse on all of Friday night.

That. That banner pic is why I hate network television.
I watched #24 and #25 but when they originally aired. Otherwise, I didn’t watch a single one of those 25 shows. The era of people watching a TV show because, well, it’s on TV – has begun to end.
I honestly can’t place what it is that makes the picture so repulsive, but I know it has something to do with Nick Cannon.
The poor photoshopping doesn’t help.
I saw the banner pic and immediately pissed on my monitor.
I will admit to watching “American Ninja Warrior,” but only because I got hooked a couple of years ago on the originals from Japan when they aired on G4. I will also DVR “Wipeout” when it resumes because it will mesmerize my kids for hours.
I get mesmerized by Wipeout. That show must be like crack for kids.
I do the same with “Wipeout” my 7 and 5 year old love it. Also, I watch “ANJ”.
Again, Ninja Warrior is the best fucking show around. The only 3 people to beat the course in Japan over its 15 year life span are a Crab Fisherman, A regular Fisherman, and a Shoe Salesman.
If you people aren’t watching this, then shame on you.
Zero for 25. I did watch a little ABC last night but that was for basketball. Hey did you know Jimmy Kimmel has a talk show now?
Nada. Summer is for watching all the good stuff you missed during the regular season.
Or reading. Whatever, Fancy Pants McBookerson.
All that list tells me is that I made the right choice in trying out BBC’s Sherlock Holmes last night….. holy shit is that show good.
+1
Sherlock is really good. It’s sad that the clearly inferior Elementary (Sherlock is perfect) will have loads more viewers than everyone who sees Sherlock on BBC or PBS.
YUS! And dude, there’s scads more British TV out there. Luther, MI5, Downton…I know crap exists across the pond, but the sheer volume of awesome in my instant queue right now is wonderful.
MI5 and Downton are great. I still haven’t gotten to Luther yet. *ducks flying pint glasses*
Check out a British show called Friday Night Dinner. Very funny.
Also, wasn’t there a bottle episode of Happy Endings that never made the regular run? I thought I read there was one more episode out there.
YES! I had no idea they pulled this crap AGAIN. Now I know what I’m watching tonight.
SCORE
Oh-fer. I actually love Gordon Ramsey’s BBC shows, especially the original Kitchen Nightmares, but the FOX stuff here is dreadful. The rest of that list is soul-crushingly bad.
I thought NBC was the worst for putting Office reruns in Community’s timeslot. I didn’t even realize that those reruns were on Friday. Every time I think NBC can’t suck more, they surprise me.
Wow. That’s so bad I’d rather read a book.
Ay, ay, ay! Es Homer Simpson. Me ha molestado!
Seeing the Univision shows reminds me that I haven’t watched Telemundo in a while.
They really get it right with the game/variety shows, even if I can’t understand most of what they’re saying.
The ladies are, uumm, talented…
I watched a rerun of Happy Endings that I had DVR’d…the episode where Dave and Pennys parents announce theyre dating. SHE GOT THEM THAAAAAAANGS
None of that rubbish. I’m waiting for Wilfred, Louie and the occasional episode of Wipeout.
I actually kind of enjoy Master Chef and my wife normally watches So You Think You Can Dance, which is surprisingly ok to watch for a reality show.
This list reminds me why I’m so happy that I finally decided to check out Workaholics after months of it sitting in my Netflix queue. At least I have one show to look forward to while I wait for Louie, Wilfred and Breaking Bad.
I’m planning to spend the next month or so watching Season 2 of Breaking Bad and Season 3 of The Wire. Sofa King Excited.
I think I am the only human being on earth who could not get into The Wire. I made it to S1 E3 =[
I really wanted to like it too
I’m with you. I just got hbo go last week, I’ve burned through the first season and a half of the wire in the past few days amazing show. I think I’m gonna break it up with the first season of breaking bad.
@BillMcneal: That’s almost exactly what I’ve been doing – alternating seasons of The Wire with Breaking Bad. I’m thinking maybe once I get through that I’ll do the same with Deadwood and Sons of Anarchy.
One, it’s my wife’s fault.
I literally watched none of these. Simply amazing.
Same here.
that list looks like fuzzy dog shit.
Nope. I wonder if I should feel smug, but all I am getting here is “depressed.”
necesito ver Que No Podio Amar
For me it’s Workaholics, The Ricky Gervais Show, and No Reservations. Looking forward to Wilfred season 2. For those that are looking for something on Netflix or Hulu; Sherlock (BBC), House of Lies (Showtime), and
Game of Thrones (oops).
Dammit, I was clean all the way to #25. Can’t help that the missus likes that purty Mentalist guy, so I have to watch about 25 minutes before she falls asleep. Otherwise, no network TV all month except maybe the last quarter of the NBA games.
lol @ nick cannon’s expression. “Oh you white folks so silly”
No fucking way Howie Mandel is putting his finger that close to Howard Stern’s mouth.
