You’ve seen the first image from Bryan Fuller’s Munsters. I love the cast of that show, and the brilliant reality-based approach Fuller is taking to the series (Munsters that Eat People!). Now it looks like NBC is taking a stab at another monster series: Dracula.
It’s not a bad idea, though I am always skeptical of anything that NBC develops. I don’t care for their Grimm, mostly because they took the seed of a great idea and turned it into another (goddamn) procedural. But, this new Dracula series sounds a lot like a Dracula series you’d see on cable save for one thing: They won’t be able to ratchet up the sex and violence, which — let’s be honest — those who actually deign to watch True Blood do it not for the storylines but for the jollies.
The NBC Dracula TV series will star Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the guy with creepy blue eyes from The Tudors and a ton of period dramas.

He’s definitely a guy that would look natural chowing down on a jugular. The series will be last only 10 episodes (yay!) and, according to TV Guide, will take a contemporary approach to the Bram Stoker character.
The series will introduce Dracula as he arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he’s seeking revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. There’s only one circumstance that can potentially thwart his plan: Dracula falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
If they do it right, it could work. It’s gotta guy behind 24 and another guy behind Downton Abbey as producers, so expect a lot of fancy costumes, yelling, and melodrama. If they can avoid the cheese-and-romp factor, it could be a cool series. Then again, it’s NBC, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they threw in a laugh track for sh*ts and giggles.
When they get around to casting the female lead, here’s a thought:

i’m probably going to get crap for this but who is the girl in the gif? is she from downtown abbey? i haven’t seen it yet
*points butt at William Roy Stutts*
She’s in American Horror Story and plays a maid who looks like an old woman to the lady of the house, but a young seductress to the man of the house.
Oh, I can’t pooh you. That show kinda blows, IMO. You had the good taste of not watching it.
HMM yes, it’s all becoming so clear now. i like maids with straps and short skirts and red hair and what not but i hate gimpsuits. thanks!
Everyone knows that S&M is the new vampires. NBC is way old fashioned.
How can you not like Grimm? It’s fairy tales with a twist!
But who is she?
And BTW “creepy” is not the word I would use to describe Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Nope. Not one bit.
