Let me clarify: the Modern Family cast, with the exception of Ed O’Neill, is not very happy. Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, and Sofia Vergara, a.k.a. approximately 100% of the actors who were nominated for an Emmy last week, are suing 20th Television for violating California’s “7 Year Rule,” which, according to the Hollywood Reporter, “prohibits personal services contracts for longer than 7 years.”
The fivesome didn’t show up to a scheduled table read yesterday, and are each asking for a raise from their current $65,000-per-episode salary. They want $200,000, which is how much the cast of The Big Bang Theory, which receives similar ratings, got for their fourth season. O’Neill isn’t part of the lawsuit because he gets to kiss Vergara on a weekly basis AND he already makes $105,000 for being a Grumpy Gus with a heart of gold.
In other words, his opinion of the lawsuit is as follows:

Pointing a gun at me. Would not bang.
Pay them all what they ask, pay Rico Rodriguez less.
…. don’t pay him at all. Start the next season at his funeral and just say he had benjamin button disease. It would also explain the absurd mileage the writers got out of all the “Manny is like an old man” jokes.
First thing I thought: “200k? That’s all?”
Modern Family is pretty much ABC’s hype machine at this point. It’s the only major player the network can point to that has any kind of both critic and viewer acclaim, though lots of us are getting tired of it. Then I read BBT is getting that much? ABC needs to step their game up.
Or cancel them. That would actually make me happier. And make Sofia Vergara broke… so she has to go into Pr0n.
Naw, she got mad K-Mart money now, son.
Say what you will about Modern Family, but Ty Burrell is worth more than the entire BBT cast combined.
Whenever Patty posts, I find myself either laughing out loud, or nodding vehemently in agreement. This is the latter.
Yup, pretty much.
Ed O’Neill joined them out of solidarity not to long ago.
By my math her breasts are def worth 100,000 each
Hmm, every story I read about this involves Sofia Vergara holding a gun at the camera… that’s raceess?
I can’t really decide which side I’m on, but I hope they settle this quickly! I would hate it if Modern Family was delayed for another season. I know with any job, my work at Dish included, that contract negotiations can be tricky and last forever! At least I stockpiled this last season of Modern Family on my DVR to tide me over, in case they can’t come to an agreement swiftly. I have the Hopper DVR that has loads of memory space, so I never have to delete anything to make room for new recordings; it works out great for situations like this! I’m sure I won’t have to worry about no new episodes though. Like previous commentors mentioned, Modern Family is simply too big of a show for ABC to lose. The cast obviously knows that too! I just hope they don’t get too greedy.
