The Breaking Bad audition tapes have been around (and mostly unnoticed) on YouTube for over a year, but most folks that have checked them out understandably focused on Aaron Paul’s reel. What they’ve missed, however, is the glory of Anna Gunn — who plays Skyler White — giving Bryan Cranston a handy while having a casual conversation (at least, I think it’s Cranston).
In fact, combined with Dean Norris’ OVER THE TOP audition reel, I get the idea that Breaking Bad was originally envisioned as more of a black comedy than the bleak, bleak drama that it has become.

Finally, if you haven’t seen it, here’s Aaron Paul’s reel. It’s fairly straightforward. Aside from the hair, the character depicted is not that much different than first season Jesse Pinkman.

My wife and I have been rewatching our first season DVDs this week and literally just watched these last night from the special features on the third disc.

does no one watch the show, or just not the episode that this is from? this headline briefly gave me relief in why one of the most amazing shows on television has such a terrible actor in such a prominent role. weaksauce
which one is the terrible actor? I don’t care for skyler’s character but she’s done a great job, especially the last 2 seasons.
Nope Anna Gunn is terrible. If the actress had more charsma, the character would have more too.
She did earlier in the show, but due to the events during the course of the series, I don’t think the role calls for much charisma. She was excellent when she pretended to be the ditzy accountant to help Ted, that was very charismatic. She has done a fantastic job playing the scared role.
Tell ya what though, I would loooove to see your acting reel to see how a real pro does it! Oh wait..
anna gunn is definitely a good actress and has been great as skylar. if you think different then you are confusing character and actress. I also don’t get how most men cant stand skylar. She may be a bitch but Walt is an asshole
