I’m really shocked this hasn’t happened sooner, but I suppose Mike’s demise has inspired some Breaking Bad fan nostalgia for him: someone took the “Be Like Mike” jingle from those old Michael Jordan/Nike commercials and laid it over cuts of Mike Ehrmantraut doing his Mike Ehrmantraut thing on Breaking Bad. It’s a lovely tribute to everyone’s favorite cold-blooded killer/fixer/grandpa.
Now, speaking of Breaking Bad, here’s a quick programming note: even though Monday is a holiday, we are planning on posting a Breaking Bad discussion post and the Power Rankings post Monday afternoon as usual, as we’re sure that some of you will be dying to discuss the season finale. So there.

Cool. I happened to be two shows behind, thanks for the spoiler alert.
Dick.
FUCK YOU ASSHOLE.
You couldn’t wait more than a single sentence in your write-up to dump the spoiler.
Thanks. A lot. Fuckhead.
@Zach & @Goldenhand: FYI, here’s a good rule to follow when you don’t want something spoiled for you, shitheads: DON’T READ A SINGLE WORD OF TEXT PERTAINING TO WHATEVER IT IS YOU DON’T WANT SPOILED.
Here’s a basic rule most of us here try to follow re: TV show spoilers. Within the first 48 hours or so of airing, try to avoid spoilers in the headline, lead pic and the first couple of graphs. Beyond that, try to avoid spoilers in the headline or the pic, so that people who haven’t seen whatever it is I’m writing about can come to a fairly simple realization: “Oh, this is a post about XYZ, which I’m not caught up on, so maybe I should pass on reading this.”
In other words, fuck your spoiler alerts. You’re visiting a site where the TV show you don’t want spoiled is written about and discussed pretty much daily when it’s airing regularly. The onus is on you for coming here and reading a post about the show that you don’t want spoiled.
Jesus Christ you spoiler alert whiners are THE FUCKING WORST.
Woah… I’ll admit Zach’s reaction was a little much but geeze dude relax. I wasn’t going to read the post because it clearly involved Breaking Bad but the spoiler was right there on the first sentence, really hard to avoid. Hiding it a little, even two sentences deep seems to be a common thing that most writers do.
I like reading WG because it pertains to a lot of shows I like, some I am on top of, some I am working on catching up on, this one I happened to be two shows behind and there’s some big moments apparently happening. It’s a good thing the show is so amazing so it doesn’t really matter but hey man it’s your blog, you write what you want to, and you’re right I just won’t be reading it anymore.
I’ll take my onus, but the anus is on you my friend.
P.S. Bloggers who take comments like Zach’s personally are THE FUCKING WORST.
Here’s a good rule of thumb to follow: if you want someone to not take a criticism personally, don’t call the person an “asshole,” a “dick” and a “fuckhead” in the course of laying out whatever your complaint is.
So many rules, I’m not sure I have enough thumbs
This one’s on you. You could have avoided any and all criticism by simply not mentioning Mike’s death in your post. For example:
I’m really shocked this hasn’t happened sooner, but I suppose the departure of Mike Ehrmantraut from the show has inspired some Breaking Bad fan nostalgia for him: someone took the “Be Like Mike” jingle from those old Michael Jordan/Nike commercials and laid it over cuts of Mike Ehrmantraut doing his Mike Ehrmantraut thing on Breaking Bad. It’s a lovely tribute to everyone’s favorite cold-blooded killer/fixer/grandpa.
See, it’s not that hard. No spoilers there. “Departure from the show” could mean lots of different things. Maybe he got arrested. Maybe he left town. Maybe he got out of the cold-blooded killing/fixing/grandfathering game. Who knows? I wouldn’t, at least until I watched the show.
I’m sorry I lost my temper and called you a bad name on the internet. When the smelling salts kick in, I’m sure you’ll feel much better. But maybe you should think about expanding your spoiler policy such that when you open with such a vague headline, you don’t include news of a character’s death before you even mention which goddamned show you’re talking about.
You are pathetic.
Getting spoiled sucks, but maybe you guys shouldn’t be on a TV blog that writes about Breaking Bad all the time.
All I’m saying is usually writers have a little common courtesy to not make it the first line in the article. Could’ve been after the jump, could’ve had a spoiler alert. Even if I was skimming the site and not interested in the article it’s very prominent.
@Goldenhand, if you’ve got the time to comment on a WG article then you have the time to catch up on two episodes somewhere in your day (~an hour and a half). So, no you don’t get a spoiler alert for something that happened five days ago. That said, you should watch them asap because they’re both excellent episodes. Also, what banditbanjo said. I knew pretty much everything that happened in BB before I began the series earlier this summer and my dick still got rock hard at some points.
@IdleRich. I’m not quite as upset as I would be about other shows because I know regardless of what I know it will be awesome. That being said, I may have time to comment on WG articles when I take breaks at my office, but it’s a lot trickier to watch shows here.
I read Warmingglow constantly, and therefore I knew Gus Fring died before I even ever got around to ever watching the show. It didn’t ruin anything for me at all. Calm down guys. It’ll be ok.
I won’t settle down. Not this time! I read warmingglow constantly too, and I’ve only just finished Season Two, and thus far I have managed (with very little difficulty) to avoid any Breaking Bad spoilers. Until now.
@Zack Wait you just finished season two? Mike was barely in season two (I think he had like 3 lines). And since you are only just finished with season two, wouldn’t it be, I don’t know, smart, to avoid ALL Breaking Bad stuff if you don’t want spoilers.
P.S. banditbanjo just spoiled a huge plot point in season 4 and you didn’t mention it.
Bwahahahaha, u fucking idiot! U jus finished SEASON FREAKIN’ 2 ?? And you’re complaining about a spoiler whilst we’re at the end of season 5?
Dick.
Yeah it’s hard to really sympathize with you guys claiming you got spoiled when you’re visiting and watching youtube bits that a fan put together of a specific character. I have a suggestion, and bear with me on this, but if I were trying to avoid any kind of spoilers on something, I’d stay away from a site that has a new article about it every week. So now everything has to have spoiler in front of it on the web because not all of you are caught up? Screw that, get caught up before you start diving head-first into a site that’s purpose is to talk about said show, and talk about it in pretty great detail.
But we’re NOT watching youtube bits. We’re reading the VERY FIRST SENTENCE of a post that doesn’t even have the words “Breaking Bad” in the title – for all I know it could be a post about other work that the actor Jonathan Banks has done. Shitty job by Cajun Boy, and I have no qualms about saying so.
…I’d stay away from a site that has a new article about it every week…
Yes, that’s a great business angle for a TV blog to take; shun all readers who aren’t thoroughly up to date on a single show that they cover. That’s great for pageviews.
@Zack, They’re not shunning anyone, it’s up to you to either A) keep up with shows that the site covers because why should it wait around for you, B) not keep up with it and accept that you will likely come across spoilers and that’s the cost you have to pay or C) complain on a website about them catering to the largest market (those that fall under category A).
@IdleRich: no, *they’re* not shunning anyone – I was responding to the above suggestions that people like me (that aren’t up-to-date on Breaking Bad) should avoid the site if we don’t want anything spoiled. I like this site! I don’t want to avoid it. I just want to avoid Breaking Bad spoilers. Which has been pretty easy to manage thus far, thanks to some simple steps the writers normally follow.
Oh, and SPOILER- Skylar and Flynn totally get it on.
Well that’s a good spoiler to know so I can have my Jergins lotion ready for that scene.
Thanks for posting this Monday. Taking your time on a Holiday to make our viewer experience better! That is exactly the opposite of being a Fuckhead.
Yeah, but only if they put SPOILER before or I’ll be upset that not everyone is following my unspoken schedule.
Common courtesies are all I ask, nothing more. Also Fuckhead was not my terminology, Dick I felt was more appropriate
The commentary on this post is my fucking FAVORITE!!
I wish we had more discussions like this.
FTR, I support CajunBoy on this.
If I’m behind on a Breaking Bad episode, I don’t read anything on this site (or others) related to the show. It’s the only way to know that you won’t come across any spoilers.
After a show has aired, and especially after more than 48 hours after it has aired, it is on the viewer to try and avoid the spoilers ESPECIALLY when if you’re coming to a site that is FILLED with discussions about the current episodes.
Had the post been about Corgis, and when you opened it there was a Breaking Bad spoiler, you might have a point.
Bob if you say I was being unreasonable I will back completely off, I just felt the very first sentence was unnecessary, very hard to avoid. I like this site for more than it’s BB posts. Now on the posts like “Which BB character will die?” I avoid like the plague flying past as fast as possible. I’m just not sure though, I think I’m right in this but I’ve picked you to decide if I’m being a douche in this situation. What you say will be final word for me in this little debate.
Probably shouldn’t tell those guys that Jesse kills Mike, that would probably be a spoiler.
I completely agree with BobLawBlawLobsLawBombs. I personally feel that after 48 hours all bets are off and then it’s no one’s problem but the viewer’s to make sure they avoid spoilers.
My wife and I don’t watch Breaking Bad until one or two days after the initial broadcast simply because that timing doesn’t work for us. And until we do get around to it, we avoid reading anything online about the show until we’ve watched. I love this site and visit every day, and if there’s a Breaking Bad post about a show I haven’t yet watched, I avoid it completely until after the episode. If you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read the article. Don’t even glance at it. Simple as that.
Also, if you’re more than a season behind, you have no right to complain about spoilers. It’s your responsibility to avoid them at this late date. And if that means avoiding sites that you would otherwise visit regularly, well, that’s life. I haven’t gotten around to watching The Wire yet, and from what I’ve read it’ll probably end up being one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, but since it’s been off the air since 2008, it’s unavoidable and inevitable that I’ve come across several spoilers, large and small. I’m still going to watch it, and almost certainly enjoy it, but again, that’s life.
I feel like I’m screaming into a void here (which I am, and whoever opened a brand new uproxx account to call me pathetic is absolutely right), but I *have* been avoiding Breaking Bad posts. That’s why the name Mike Ehrmantraut meant nothing to me. Until I started reading this post, at which point I found out (in order) that a) Mike Ehrmantraut is dead and b) Mike Ehrmantraut is a character on Breaking Bad.
But now that I’ve realized that talking about the death of a major character in the first sentence of a post is something Cajun Boy is not shy about doing, I’ll just do the smart thing and avoid all his posts from here on out, and we can all go on with our lives.
I got no sympathy for you mainly because your obviously a bandwagon fan. It’s literally taking every once of my being not to spoil the entire series for you right now. Luckily, I’m a nice guy so your in the clear…still think your a douche though
You gonna fuck on me?
Would telling them that Hank dies in the season 3 finale be considered a spoiler?
