There’s been some interesting developments in television casting this week, but none of casting decisions rise to the level of their own post. So, here we’ll knock out 5 casting decisions all at once:
1. According to Deadline, David Costabile, who you may know best as Gale Boetticher from Breaking Bad, is returning to AMC to star in their pilot, Low Winter Sun, along wiht Lennie James, Mark Strong, and Sprague Grayden. An adaptation of a British miniseries, Low Winter Sun “will explore vengeance and corruption through the lens of a cop murdering a fellow officer.” I might also mention that Costabile is doing a kick-ass job in USA Network’s Suits this season. I’ve seen tonight’s season finale, and it’s fantastic, featuring another solid turn from Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman).
2. Also according to Deadline, Maulik Pancholy has been “let go” (fired?) from Whitney, which allows him to return to 30 Rock, where he will continue to serve as Jack Donaghy’s assistant, Jonathan. He has a real name? He’ll always be “Jonathan” to me. Anyway, that’s gotta be considered a career upgrade, notwithstanding the loss of screen time.

3. I’ve seen Chloe Sevigny in person once before, and my God, she’s tiny, like a little, itty-bitty bird. And like a lot of emaciated Hollywood starlets, her head looks like it’s about to wobble off her frail frame. It freaked me out; I kept wanting to go over and offer to help hold her head up. Moving on: Sevigny has been added to the cast of Portlandia for its third season. According to EW, she’ll play a Portlandite who moves in with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s characters. (Sevigny is also in the second season of American Horror Story, where she’ll play a nymphomaniac.
4. Rob Huebel from Children’s Hospital, and the FilmDrunk Frotcast — will appear on NBC’s Up All Night next season, as an annoying college roommate of Will Arnett’s character, so reports TV Guide. Rachel Dratch and Sean Hayes will also appear this seaosn. If you haven’t heard, this season will shift away from the talk show of Maya Rudolph’s character and focus, instead, on home stories, which is the strength of the sitcom.
5. Via the Game of Thrones blog, Winter Is Coming, Ed Skrein and Jacob Anderson have joined the cast of Game of Thrones as Daario Naharis — the charming and brutal captain of a mercenary company of soldiers called the Stormcrows — and Grey Worm — the leader of a group of eunuch slave soldiers — respectively. I have no idea who these guys are, nor do I know anything about their characters. But, maybe you can draw some assumptions based on their pictures.
Ed Skrein

Jacob Anderson

They’ll be joining the spectacular Ciarán Hinds, who will play Mance Rayder, a former wilding child who joined the ranks of the Night’s Watch.

David Costabile will always be Doug from Flight of the Conchords to me.
He’ll always be creepy corrupt detective and murderer from “Damages” to me. Dude is an amazing actor for real though.
You ever see that “Changeling”? Murray’s co-worker Greg pops up in a minor role, completely pulled me out of the film.
Eastwood’s continuing fascination with Jeffrey Donovan keeps me put in to Burn Notice. So that’s a weird kind of wash, I guess.
Rob Corddry (Children’s Hospital) and Rachael Harris (Hangover) are going to be on Happy Endings this season.
Rachael Harris is a-mazing. I really hope we get to see Rona Thorne again.
Spoiler-lite summary:
1) Daario is an oversexed psychopath and pretty cool guy. With a blue beard.
2) Grey Worm totally killed a puppy. And a baby.
Both of these look like they could work just fine.
Not only did Grey Worm have to kill a puppy, but he was forced to raise it for months before killing it. Also he’s a eunuch like Varys life ain’t fair son.
This person is hired, this one fired…Any excuse to post that banner pic is alright by me.

Mance Rayder was a Night’s Watch member who turned into the wildling King (The King Beyond the Wall)
You have it as the other way around.
No he does not. He was a wilding child who was taken by the Night’s Watch and raised to be one, and was one until the whole red coat thing, then he bounced and went on to become King Beyond the Wall.
It’s not what most people would use to describe the character, but it’s accurate.
Hmmm, that may be spoilery or maybe I just missed that? Is that explained before or after Feast for Crows?
I think before, and most of Mance’s backstory comes from Mance himself.
It’s such a minor detail that it’s never really discussed again. It’s alluded to when they talk about how the other wildlings view his extended family vis-a vis their perceived nobility.
Dustin is absolutely correct (as are you on that he left the Watch to ultimately become the Wildling King). Check the ASOIAF wiki entry Mance (SPOILER ALERT IF YOU READ TOO FAR DOWN THE WIKI!!!).

I’ve been Ciarán Hinds too much lately. I’m sick of him.
I admit It’s hard to reconcile Bud from Political Animals and The King Beyond the Wall as the same person.
Ahem, I’ve been “seeing” him too much. And it’s not like he’s a bad actor or anything. But I am worried that his Bud is going to taint his Mance.
Don’t correct that. You did nothing wrong. Just say “word play.”
Glad I never started Political Animals then…
Chloe Sevigny is 5’7″ or 5’8″, depending on the source. That’s not tiny.
Really? I asked Vincent Gallo how tall she was and he said she only came up to his waist.
Hey, in my family most of the women are 6′ plus. Most of the men are fucking terrified.
Congrats to anyone who had the under on on 2:30pm before the first Vincent Gallo / Chloe Sevigny beej reference.
Ed Skrein looks like Adam Scott’s tough older brother…

I never pictured Grey Worm as a kid, but the recently trained Unsullied would have to be, so it’s cool.
Well, even though there’s no explicit mention of their ages, the fact that they’re trained from childhood and have no other purpose in life, would make them fairly young by the time they’re “ready”. The Astaporii want to make money with them after all. So I think late teens to twenties would be a general age among those still in Astapor.
That said, he does look pretty young for someone supposedly chosen by his peers as the best to lead them and I mean that in a way that he basically has to be THE Unsullied to convey to the audience what those guys are all about. He honestly looks more like he was cast as something like perfumed pleasure boy rather than fearless, obedient killing machine.
Also, I just noticed he’s in Episodes, which is cool I guess.
Ed Skrein looks like Eric Bana, in a desperate bid to keep being the Hulk, starved himself for three years and having survived, got real smug about it.
Eric Bana after surviving Cancer.
