HBO Go has finally taken a small, timid step away from cable networks and towards actually letting those of us who don’t want cable but do want Game of Thrones day of air to actually pay them money for the privilege. In Norway.
Well, it’s a start.
It will also run you a pretty penny, if you happen to live in the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow: About $12.50 a month, which is actually not bad considering how expensive everything is in Scandinavia.
The service, named HBO Nordic AB, will allow customers in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark to stream subtitled versions of the same content available in the US. Original series like Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, as well as movies that are featured by the channel, will be streamable at HBONordic.com.
We’re guessing that this is because there are fewer cable fans and more broadband users in the colder parts of Europe, and also they’ve got less to lose. What’s Sweden going to do, resort to their film industry?
That said, HBO, really… what’s it going to take to just stream your original shows over the Internet? Blood? Some first-born? The ritual sacrifice of Jeff Bewkes? Let us know what we need here, let’s make this happen. Otherwise this guy will think you hate America.

I’ve read the Game of Thrones books many times through. I won’t pay for a subscription, but would throw down $20 bucks for three days of HBO Go to watch all of season 2. Which I’ve seen not a minute of, but heard by all accounts was even better than the first season.
Darn, I guess I will have to continue to not give them money for streaming like actually I want to and stream it for free instead.
Is that Jeff Ross?
I thought it was Kevin Spacey
LOL! That guy in the gif forgot the K in Knope. ROFLULZ Leslie gon’ be mad.
So many wonderful things could be said about the greasy thug in the tri-cornered hat, but I’m going to go with:
“You will have the hat cleaned, and then return it.”
Don’t hassle Sweden, or we’ll go Lisbeth Salander on your asses.
$12.50 a month is probably cheaper than what you’re paying for HBO. (I think it’s like, $18 for me.)
More like $20 here in Boston. It’s mostly the movie streaming that’s the problem. If HBO just did an original content only streaming service in the US, they’d probably charge $12.50
