The fall television season kicks off next month, and over the weekend, networks released several new trailers and promos to whet your appetites for the upcoming seasons.
Sons of Anarchy — Unless I’m forgetting one, this is the first trailer with actual footage from season five (as opposed to the overcooked symbolism in this trailer). It looks like season five is going to have a lot more Harold Perrineau (Lost) than previously assumed. Also, Clay has an oxygen mask, and I’m still not that comfortable seeing Jimmy Smits without a suit on.
Homeland — I’m not going to preface this trailer with anything, except to say that — if you’re watching Homeland — the season two trailer and its use of “Every Breath You Take” will blow you away. If you’re not watching Homeland, this is the one fall season show you need to catch up on pronto.
American Horror Story — There’s not much to this short teaser for the second season of American Horror Story: Asylum except for the fact that it looks sufficiently creepy. In case you haven’t been keeping up with the off-season developments, the second season is set in an insane asylum in the 1960s and features all new characters (some played by actors from last season). The cast for the second season includes returning cast members Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe, as well as new additions Franka Potente, Adam Levine, Charming Potato’s wife Jenna Dewan, Clea DuVall, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Fiennes and James Cromwell.

I think we know which one Patty is going to pick.
I’m going with SoA, it’s due for a comeback.
Yeah, that trailer looks pretty good, but I was severely disappointed in the deus ex machina at the end of the prior season. My expectations are not great for the next one.
Homeland.
Fringe is a close second to Homeland. Despite how much I love to see Walter when he’s in “time to stop fucking around mode” (i.e. walternate mode) Homeland was just so damn good last season.
When the hell did Claire Danes turn into Sarah Michelle Gellar?
I might be alone, but on Fringe I’d almost appreciate it if the good guys lose. I’m okay with it if they win in a reasonable and creative way. But if they lose… that’s kind of cool. And pretty reasonable for this show. (How do you REALLY beat time travelers?)
In order:
1) Boardwalk Empire. I need to see how they fill the Jimmy Darmody Void (A great alternative band, by the way)/
2) Sons of Anarchy. I was SO let down by last season’s finale. A lot of great build-up to nothing. I seek redemption! To quote the prophet Morris Day, “@$$es wigglin’, I want some perfection!”
I do not get Showtime, so no Homeland for me. I believe everyone that it’s a good show. I just don’t need to pay an even bigger cable bill to see one show.
I have minimal interest in American Horror Story. When I found out after season 1 that the show was originaly intended as a miniseries, that made total sense to me. It would have worked in that way. My hope is that now that they know what they are getting into maybe they can write something even and that doesn’t introduce a brand new ghost in every single episode.
Agreed. BE > SoA, but then again, I still haven’t seen s4 of SoA, so I have some catching up to do (that show could’ve ended with Stahl’s death, as far as I’m concerned. But, I’ll probably catch s4 on Netflix when it comes out).
As for Homeland: AppleTV, my friend.
Anti-Matter. You beat them with anti-matter.
I can’t help but say American Horror Story — even though I KNOW it’s going to be batshit insane/I’m a little upset they aren’t picking up where they left off with Season 1.
I’m a lot a bit upset that they wrapped up Season One like that. I just felt like there were too many loose ends and unanswered questions. WHY did the house trap spirits there? What was its end game? What was the deal with the Infantata? What was its involvement in the overall big picture? But no, we get the ghost family singing kumba-fucking-ya around the Christmas tree while their teenage daughter’s psychotic ghost boyfriend and husband’s psychotic ghost mistress look in from outside of the window, teary-eyed, like in a goddamn Tom and Jerry cartoon.
Argh. I’m so getting sucked in for another season of disappointment.
I’m guessing Clay is thinking that looking like Piney is going to stop Opie from killing him? Or he is going to take the on Piney role just to be a shit disturber.
Off topic, but I love your avatar
OH MY GOD HOMELAND
Dexter.
I respect your kickboxing ability, but did you actually watch season 6!? Holy god that was some awful television.
Agreed. Dexter. It looks like they might actually be trying again this season.
Dexter highlights the weird way that a television show can gradually replace its original writing staff, so nobody that was involved in the first season has been with the show for a couple of years, and nobody talks about it, or attributes the crazy decline in quality to it.
Cmon guys, incest is a great direction for a show about a serial killer to go.
Homeland and Fringe are my favorite of the 5, but I also would have to say American Horror Story. It’s an insane mess of a show that pulled off an original concept and provided something that was actually different for once. For a fan of the horror genre it’s great to see a horror show that tries and actually succeeds sometimes, despite some flaws.
Was I the only person to watch the SOA trailer and immediately think “But Tortuga was killed years ago! I saw his head crawling across the desert on a tortoise. What sort of crazy flash back shit will be going on this season!”
Whoops, mixing up my Breaking Bad and SOA characters.
The trailer isn’t really exciting, but Fringe, Fringe, Fringe! I like Homeland too, good show, it just doesn’t get me as hyped up as it does some other people.
I’ll watch AHS too, but like you watch a dead bird that’s been runover on the road, not because you enjoy it, but you just curious to see the mess.
Homeland and AHS (best new series last year)
Jesus H. Christ on a ghost train! Homeland looks sweet. Season 1 was some of the best television in recent memory, arguably since SoA and Breaking Bad.
Homeland. Don’t even need to watch the trailers.
This.
I thought so, too, but you should watch that one, anyway.
Amen.
^^ Watch the trailer. It’s great.
Tie between Homeland and Fringe. I’m more excited for the twists of homeland, but I’m more invested in the characters of Fringe.
Fringe.
but, then, thats the only one of these I watch at all.
doctor who comes back soon and he fights ALL OF THE DALEKS. so i’m more excited for that than anything else, really.
Already running Breaking Bad
Dexter
How about It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I’m going to miss Fat Mac this season.
Based on trailers? Dexter for sure.
Homeland.
Sons of Anarchy is close behind, American Horror Story can suck a dick the first season was awful.
I wanted to watch Homeland when it was on but I never got around to it. luckily it was on demand on Comcast (or xfinity idk wtf they’re going by) and spent the last week watching it and you guys, omg, you guys. the whole gd season was beautiful from start to finish. and that season 2 trailer just took my excitement to another level.
This excited to be exact: *does Homeland dance*
*detonates suicide bomb vest*
Fringe and SOA. I got halfway through the first season of Homeland and ave up, bored out of my mind.
gave up
