This has been a rough offseason for SNL, which lost Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Abby Elliott, and maybe, kind of, sort of Jason Sudeikis (I, personally, would never work again, if I had Olivia Wilde waiting for me at home). To make up for the lost talent, Lorne Michaels has hired two Chicago-based comedians.
According to Splitsider:
SNL has brought in Aidy Bryant and Tim Robinson to join the cast. They’re starting in time for the season’s premiere on September 15. Both are vets of the Chicago comedy scene: Second City, iO, Annoyance Theater, etc. Aidy was actually once part of a sketch group with Vanessa Bayer at the Annoyance, which is fun. (Via)
Lest you worry about SNL‘s ongoing reluctance to hire a black female, rumor has it Kenan is working on a killer farting Gabby Douglas sketch.

It’s too bad, Jenny Slate actually wasn’t terrible.
She sure was better than Kate McKinnon, at least, whose one facial expression seems to be “hemorrhoids”.

Just what SNL needs. More white cast members. Black women? Asians represented at all? Nope. Need someone else to do all of those characters Taran Killam doesn’t want to do.
@BarryDarsow, Yeah let’s hire minorities just because we have to. Don’t bother hiring people on their own merits. Maybe there’s crap for talent out there for your desired ethnicities. Hell, SNL has had crap for the talent they DO hire for decades now.

Dude….you have ONE black cast member who does ALL the black roles. So they have to tailor WHAT black roles they can even PORTRAY because they only have ONE, and it’s a GUY and he’s FAT. So they are stuck with only portraying black people who are fat, and if it’s a woman, put the fat guy in a dress (HEY! We got the Martin Lawrence fans rolling!)…..
And just so you know, anyone who says “Don’t bother hiring people on their own merits” is essentially admitting they are a white person with below average skills who is petrified of losing out on something to an equally qualified candidate because “Ohhh, someone had to fill a quota, thanks Al Sharpton! Who is looking out for ME? (Besides the other 63 million white people in power, of course)”
