Good news for websites hosting the image of Eddie Murphy giving the A-OK hand signal:
CBS has collared the Beverly Hills Cop adaptation from Shawn Ryan and Eddie Murphy.
After fielding hefty offers from each of the Big Four networks, Sony Pictures TV settled on the Eye as the best home for the revival of the franchise that yielded three features starring Eddie Murphy in 1984, ’87 and 1994. The new spin will revolve around the son of Murphy’s Axel Foley character, a cop transplanted from Detroit to Beverly Hills. Aaron Foley is a blue-collar cop who is also on the force and struggling to escape the shadow of his father.
CBS has given the show a firm pilot production commitment. Murphy will appear in the pilot and may be a recurring character if the show is picked up to series. (Via)
Now comes the endless speculation of who will play Aaron, with thousands of uppercase words spent breathlessly claiming that [THIS ACTOR] is the perfect Aaron unless [THIS ACTOR] is the best fit to play Aaron. For what it’s worth, I think [THIS ACTOR] should be J.B. Smoove (even if CBS turns the idea into a comedy-drama) because Donald Glover is too obvious and Smoove can say anything and make it sound funny. That’d be a nice change of pace for CBS.

I’d go with Brandon T. Jackson aka “Alpa Chino” and work in some type of Booty Sweat tie-in
I’m sensing an Orlando Jones comeback vehicle.
Jayden Smith.
The show will be a combined remake of Doogie Howser, Beverly Hills Cop, and continue the Karate Kid theme.
He’s gonna be a Karate master teenager who is smart beyond his years and follows his fathers footsteps into the police force. He’ll struggle with being smarter than all the other police and his bosses. He’ll get into hilarious situations where he uses his mastery of martial arts to catch criminals, but then have to hide the fact that he was the hero because his bosses won’t understand how he was able to solve the crime.
SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH they’ll hear you
I hope Uncle Dave makes a cameo. I f’n love that guy.
Maybe it will be W. Kamau Bell starring with Russell Brand, so I can appreciate their irreverent takes on our political problems twice as much!
Donald Glover is too obvious Yeah, but he’d be kinda perfect. This being CBS I’m sure they’ll have Wayne Brady locked up in no time.
This has Nick Cannon written all over it.
Jay Pharoah would do a good job with this, his impressions are awesome.
I hope they cast the little kid that played Kenard on The Wire. Because fuck you, gump.
It’s only appropriate that this show is going to be on the what many consider to be the “post-Bowfinger Eddie Murphy” of networks.
I would be excited if AMC, FX, HBO, even Showtime picked up the show. But CBS? I feel like you need to be over 50 if you want to watch any of their prime time shows.
So by my math that makes Axel’s son less than 18?
PROVING MY THEORY OF HIM BEING THE DOOGIE HOWSER OF COPS!!
(or it’s the really racist stereotype that Axel already had the kid and was an absentee father)
aziz as foley’s adopted son!
also, cbs is actually making me want to watch their network beyond football between this and elementary. last time this happened was one season of dexter during the writer’s strike.
i am sure they’ll blow it then.
If Judge Reinhold and John Ashton aren’t involved, I’m boycotting.
Donald Glover does seem like the obvious choice, which of course means it won’t happen.
Seriously though, I’ll be interested to see how this turns out. If done right, it could be a solid procedural show. Hell, all 3 movies themselves were basically nothing more than a typical cop procedural.
I would have liked to see Officer Foley become Chief of the Beverly Hills Police department.
I re-watched Beverly Hills Cop last night. Realized the guy who kills Axel’s friend at the beginning is Mike Ehrmantraut. So, you know, get him.
holy fuckballs!
J.B. Smooth is only 6 years younger than Eddie Murphy.
how are you not considering damon wayans jr.?
Either Elijah Kelley, Donald Glover, Columbus Short, Nate Parker or……………Aubrey Graham
