Outside of the season finale of Breaking Bad and the season premiere of Doctor Who, this was not a very good week of television. There were no HBO shows to make fun of, Louie and Wilfred weren't on last night, and KSK already snagged the most important Wolfman Rob GIF you'll ever see. So rather than patronize you with GIFs from Coma and Damages, I'm here to pander to you instead...by looking not forward, but backward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling toward NICKTOONS. Specifically, the first 10 golden-era Nicktoons, which includes everything from Doug (premiered in 1991) to Oh Yeah! Cartoons (1998). Is this just an excuse to post GIFs from Hey Arnold! and Rocko's Modern Life, the two best Nicktoons? Why, yes, yes it is.

More here.

Uh oh. You’re awakening…my nostalgia…must not…become…insufferable!
I explained “Kablam!” to a current teenager recently. Only response, “That sounds…really weird.”
Am I the only one who remembers Danger Mouse? good lord I must be 10s of years older than the rest of you.
Before it was the name of a jew-fro’ed DJ, it was an awesome ass British cartoon show. Count Duckula was da bomb, yo!
I used to watch the sh*t out of some dangermouse! (I’m 30).
Arnold kind of sucked. The Angry Beavers, Doug, and AHH! Real Monsters is where it’s at. Arnold was like when the cartoons ended and M*A*S*H* starts.
I hated Hey Arnold! That show was awful.
Rocko’s Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy was where it was at.
Sorry, I feel no nostalgia for any of those. And it doesn’t help that the chihuahua next door is the spitting image of Ren in appearance, demeanor, and behavior.
So it calls you an “eeeeediot” on a regular basis? That sounds kind of awesome.
I liked Hey Arnold! Clearly the rest of you are weirdos.
Me too. And even though it wasn’t a Nicktoon, Animaniacs was always my favorite.
Clearly everybody but us 3 are weirdos
Anyone who didn’t like Hey Arnold! obviously has a football head
I can actually hear “HAPPY HAPPY! JOY JOY!” on 21…
Them Nicktoons is deep in my noodle.
In retrospect, I cannot comprehend how these shows were even pitched to executives, let alone actually allowed to air on a children’s network. Not that they weren’t awesome (most were), but they are some of the strangest ideas in the history of strangeness and ideas.
“So there’s a dog, and a cat – and they’re basically siamese twins! Hilarity ensues!”
“We’re going to have a show based on young monsters, one of which holds his eyeballs with his hands at all times. And they will have a monster professor, who is male but will inexplicably wear red high heels at all times.”
“A wallaby adjusts to the rigors of modern life with the help of his best friend, a cow, and a neurotic turtle. Also, he will work for a huge, overt conglomerate – this job will lead to many business world jokes utterly incomprehensible to most children.”
But clearly, the weirdest of all is Ren and Stimpy. I undoubtedly have serious subconscious psychological issues from watching that show religiously as a child.
The 90′s where awesome.
I believe you could’ve found more and/or better gifs of Ren and Stimpy out there. I mean, where is the happy Happy Joy Joy butt smash? Or the flying butt pliers from Mad Dog Hoek. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you put this together, I just crave as much Ren and Stimpy as possible. The least you could’ve done is a “No sir, I don’t like it” GIF, or one from the Rubber Nipple Salesmen, or Ren eating soap from Space Madness. OK, I really need to stop now.
Oh, also, I give you props for including Really Really Big Man from Rocko’s Modern Life.
hi
Anyone else ever hear the theory that Rugrats was a figment of Angelica’s imagination?
Yeah, shut up.
This is like that video of 90′s nostalgia set to step by step all over again.
I don’t know what to do with all this feelings HHHHHNNNGGG!!!
…Nostalgia
I was gonna ask the name of the cartoon that opened with the boy drawing an oval on the chalkboard….But after a short search, I found it was called “ChalkZone”…Simple times.
