5. Sh*t Happens — Rick, whose testicles grew three sizes this week, did not hesitate to take out Tomas after he took a swing at him. This may have been my favorite Rick Moment from the entire series.

Rick didn’t let baseball bat kid (Andrew, I believe) off, either, leaving him to the Walkers, but not before a mid-day Dance Party.

Rick did, however, allow Oscar and Axel to survive, holed up in their own prison cell. I hope we see them again because, from what little we saw of them, both characters showed a lot of depth and humanity.

6. Zombie Kill of the Week — The “kill” of the week went to Rick for taking a machete to Tomas’ head, but for the Zombie Kill, I like the simplicity of T-Dog — who is now wearing the riot gear — spiking an arrow through a zombie eye socket. Clean, quick, quiet and effective.

I’m a little late to this discussion.
Another great episode.
Yeah, Bitch! Yeah The Walking Dead’s new consistency!
The second episode was straight solid. This season is moving along nicely compared to last season.
ric is in a whole diffenrent zone right now
The gifs that slow things down are ruining the special effects…
Wait….so now Carl’s NOT annoying, and T-Dog is actually doing and saying useful, relevant things? I don’t even know what show I’m watching anymore…
Can someone explain why they cut off Herschel’s leg if everyone is already infected? Does getting bit speed up the transition to zombie by combining whatever is in the air and possible zombie fluids to the blood stream? Right now my understanding is they only become a zombie once they are dead.
Basically. As far as I can tell (someone who’s read the comics may know better) the infection seems dormant in people until they A) die or B) get infected from an active zombie.
@HolyturtleofDoom – you are correct, sir.
Yeah, the second commenter is right.
I was glad that Maggie took the time to address the fact that it was dumb as shit for Hershel to have been clearing the prison with the rest of them.
T-Dog is the most self aware character on the show. He knows he is the only black guy so as soon as the option for extra armor arises he takes advantage.
It’s moves like that that keep the token black guy alive in these sort of situations.
For being trapped in a cafeteria for almost a year, the prisoners sure did have recent haircuts/shaves…
I don’t know if you could tell from the fact that it was on TV, but this is a TV show.
yeah, thats a problem with many shows/movies spread over time. rick should be sporting a tom hanks in castaway beard by now. And the asian should have at least an Adam Morrison stache
They probably have scissors, they’re hardly going to spend time showing them shaving.
It wouldn’t be too hard to have a scene where Rick is shaving while having a conversation with someone else about a pertinent plot point.
they did it on lost…
Yeah, they probably found something to shave themselves with.
What a great episode.
I met Big Tiny in a bar in New Orleans earlier this year. He was an awesome guy and he can drink a pint of beer in one gulp. Damn shame he got his head smooshed.
I promise I’ll start watching this. When this came out, I was just so overdosed on zombie shit that I didn’t guive it a fair shot.
I gave up on the show a few episodes into season 2. Have been very pleasantly surprised by how much it has improved during the break.
they should just have cut off bug tiny’s arm or back
It bit him on the back. They can’t cut off his back without killing him.
Can’t wait for the episode next week!!!
Holy shit. Merle is still alive and accounted for? I thought the writers just left that open ended to waste our time and emotion in Season 1.
Yeah, there are a few loose ends like that that I figure are probably just to show how “on your own” everybody is. Like the black dude and his kid who saved Rick in the very beginning, or the Mexicans and their grandparents in Atlanta.
Ricktatorship. Much better than whatever you used last week.
I can’t wait to see Mr. Svenning next week. I hope Rick stinkpalms him.
I think Merle will alter Daryl’s relationship with the group but for the better. He’ll likely see how much he’s grown without Merle around and see that Merle’s ways aren’t necessarily the best. There will be some mini-arc with Daryl’s loyalty being tested only for him to side with the Ricktatorship, but hopefully that will be more interesting to watch than some of the other dramabombs that have gone on throughout the show.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to not read these recaps until after my wife and I can watch the show on Monday night? GAH!!
I’ve been having that problem with the SOA recaps…
Ridiculous thing that bothered me in an otherwise really fun episode : when the prisoners saw the gang chop off Hershel’s leg, and they asked “what happened’ and someone said “he got bitten,” more than one of the prisoners – who supposedly know nothing of zombies or anything else that’s going on – immediately responded as if they knew he were going to become a zombie.
I know I’m being nitpicky, but if they really knew nothing of the zombie world or how it spread, why would the simple phrase “he was bitten” inspire them to be so obviously freaked?
I get the feeling they saw a little bit of the biting stuff happening when the riot first broke out and before they got locked in the cafeteria.
Regular zombie knowledge?
This episode wasn’t as good as last week’s, but it was better than basically every Season 2 episode and I am now convinced that the staff has decided to actually make this show as good as it should be.
Since we all agree that Hershel’s next move is to become a peg-legged pirate, can you guys put a pirate hat and an eye patch on my Hershel Badge?
I stand behind this idea and will die to protect it.
I can get behind the idea of Hershel turning into Shamus from Family Guy.
Was I the only one who noticed Rick and the group walking through the laundry room and thought “Wow, Lori and Carol are going to be squealing with delight when they realize how easy laundry will be now” before I realized there was no power.
Yes. You were the only one.
No, you are not alone. I thought that as well.
I am here with you.
I thought this as well.
Did anyone else get turned on when Lori and Herschel were kissing? Oh Just me?
I guess I’m in the minority here but I still think Carl is an annoying little fuck. I embody the “black person in a movie theater” stereotype because all I did was shit-talk through the entire episode. (Although it was solid)
I bet.
You know what makes Georgia epic? Herschel: Walker.
I enjoyed this.
+Heisman Trophy
Does anyone feel like everything Carl does this season is just a giant “I’M SORRY” for how annoying he was last year?
Ugh, this comment turned me into Lori, why, god, why?
Kind of hard to believe that turning into Lori is a “step up”
Haha.
last night was a fantastic episode
Yeah. Commenting as much as I can to get out of the Carl b.
My favourite moment was the end of the first scene, which if you imagine it from the prisoners’ perspective: After ten months with nothing to do but eat breadcrumbs, shit in a fridge, and rape each other, suddenly the first people you’ve seen all year burst in, hack a dude’s leg off, and run out. And then there’s that beautiful moment where they’re all left just staring at the severed leg all “what the fuck was that?”
I half-expected one of them to pick up the leg and go: “So… dinner?”
I just loved how Rick’s group more or less ignored the prisoners while they were working on Hershel, even with the guns pulled on them. Rick’s group has become likeable and gives no cares.
Solid episode. Wanna see more Michonne. Looking forward to the Governor. Merle’s revenge will be sweet too. Gimme my carl badge. Im sharing to twitter.
Another fantastic episode. I thought for a minute maybe Rick would “accidentally” swing that machete too close to Lori’s neck. Oh well.
Only in my dreams.
I can’t find a screen grab of T-Dog carrying that big box of food anywhere. Video isn’t on AMCs website yet either.
Big Tiny’s death was the biggest, lamest, most forced plot point of the episode (though the show, as a whole over the three seasons, does have a lot of them). The gang are doing a solid job of moving through the cell block clearing zombies and Big Tiny decides he needs to back away and go off on his own? For what? At least make it look like, fuck, I don’t know, he saw something that he really wanted to have (something that used to belong to him, the Rolex of the dead Warden’s wrist, whatever) and that’s why he went off on his own. But don’t give me this, oh, he’s just going off on his own because bullshit.
He was being a cowardly bitch. That’s why he got killed.
He broke the line.
You break the rules set forth by people who have been surviving on the road for MONTHS, you die.
Right, because everyone that comes across the god dam undead is going to be chilled with it.
+1 this week for TWD and the Ricktatorship. Your move SAMCRO and the Bro-ocracy
I thought the Lori/Rick conversation at the end pretty much cemented the relationship being over- in particular the “what are we going to do, hire a lawyer & split our assets?” line.
They’ll probably be sleeping in separate cells & everything.
Hopefully it sets up Lori’s death and Rick’s splitting her undead skull wide open at some point (soon, I hope).
Lori sucks more and more each week
At least Lori seems AWARE that she sucks.
@FZKilla
Well, at least more aware than she is of Carl’s comings and goings.
ewwww
SHIT HAPPENS.
My jaw dropped.
It was just so good. For a moment I expected Rick to be the same boring, morally correct guy who has been failing to understand the situation he’s in the past two seasons, but when he did what he had to do I fist pumped the air in excitement, he finally gets it.
Leaving the other guy to die by the walkers was kind of dark though, I kind of felt sorry for him but it still was an awesome moment.
@ sphincter
I thought it was fairly obvious that Rick was going to kill some (or all of the prisoners) the moment Lori gave him that talk about doing what he thinks is right. She basically said “kill those motherfuckers to keep us safe” without actually saying it.
I think that rick is never coming back. From the moment in season 2 when he quickdrawed on the two guys in the bar, hes been kind of more and more badass.
i thought dude was about to get an arrow through the head when Rick turned to give “the look”
Sorry, but the best line came from Lori at the end “…it’s a safe place for Carl to do…whatever it is he does these days.” I actually laughed out loud. I think I can get on board with self-aware shit mother Lori.
It was her best line in 3 seasons
I find her much more likeable in these last episodes than i did in the first 2 seasons. part of it is that she isn’t screaming “where’s carl?!?” every two minutes.
Another fantastic episode. My only complaint is that those jerks promised us last week that the Governor was coming last night and he no showed. That was disappointing. I got all dressed up and everything.
The Rick/Laurie dialogue at the end was pretty damn good. It makes me want them to do a winter episode even more. Especially with Carl being all “Back off, bee-yotch!” to his mom.
I’m also thinking a single episode focused on Daryl’s brother (Meryle?) and his escape would be pretty awesome and action pact.
Remember when Lori was pregnant before she put her and her unborn zombie baby at risk from a possibly infected Hershel? Rick, she is not mother of the year. Hell, Carol is a better mother and she had her kid run off into a zombie infested forest.
lol looks like I have the carl badge
Your badge is still in the house?
STAY IN THE FUCKING HOUSE, CARL’S BADGE!!!
GET OFF MY BACK LORI BADGE.
/Points gun and smirks
Iron Mike Sharpie for the win.
I kept holding my breath hoping Hershel would zombify and kill Lori once and for all. Totally bummed when he survived.
I have faith that the writers of the show read TWD discussions all over the internet and will hopefully kill Laurie off at some point in the show’s existence in such a spectacular way, they’ll sell that one individual episode on DVD and TWD fans will buy it in droves. They’re just working on the metaphorical foreplay at the moment. Getting us all not for a Laurie death. And when she dies, millions of angels will get their wings.
I about jumped out of my skin when Rick took the machete to Tomas’ head. Also, that ending with Lori & Rick? He’s totally done with her.
They are never ever ever getting back together.
Oh yeah. He is done with her and her bullshit.
That scene with Rick and Lori seems to have gone right over your head IMO. He doesn’t say that he (Rick) appreciates her. He says “We appreciate” meaning the group…he’s talking as the leader of the group and not as her husband. That’s an important line that is very different from what you claim he said.
I liked the Lori mouth-to-mouth scene, just because it gave me the chance to scare the crap out of my girlfriend, who was on edge all day after watching Sinister.
I totally screamed at this part, which woke my husband up and then he wanted to kill ME!
I applaud Rick’s tactics last night… Now the group gets more food!
If someone arrived and let me out of my cafeteria prison inside of a prison I’d be mighty thankful indeed.
