At the end of every episode of The Station Agents, a TV power rankings podcast I work on with Warming Glow's Dustin Rowles and Pajiba's Joanna Robinson, we include a "musical moment of the week." For instance, in our first episode, we picked a selection from Benji's Cool Times Summer Jamz Mix, while last week, we went with the Simon & Simon theme song. Today, we went with something non-Adam Scott related: a heavy metal cover of The Walking Dead theme because, honestly, the show has been METAL so far this season.
Finding that video on YouTube got me browsing around for other unexpectedly awesome amateur theme song covers, eight of which are included in this post. (I only picked shows that are still on the air — sorry, fans of ukulele covers of "Searchin' My Soul.") It's worth clicking just to hear an amazing rendition of the Archer theme song, as performed by a middle school jazz band. "A Taste of Honey," it ain't.
Not a strict cover, but it's great.

That Mad Men guy is putting something way stronger than iocaine in a beer he hands you.
Kids doing the Archer theme totally have the tempo wrong. More intensity!
The Game of Thrones cover that took place in what appears to be someone’s living room had to be one of the weirdest jam sessions ever.
