When I first learned that Always Sunny was going to go nine seasons and maybe even ten my initial reaction was the same reaction I have when all good shows are renewed for a seemingly indefinite amount of time: THIS IS TERRIBLE AND IT WILL RUIN THEIR LEGACY SIMPSONS DEXTER SOMETHING SOMETHING OMG. But early last year (probably during the pantheon "Jersey Shore" episode) it dawned on me that Sunny plays by its own rules. The closest thing to character development is the continued ruination of anyone who has the misfortune of regularly crossing paths with the gang, and they'll seemingly never run the risk of plotline exhaustion. If there's a live action comedy that deserves to go a decade it's the one that creates an entire episode around tracking down "An Original Hitler" dog painting.
A few notes before getting to the Sunniest moments from last night:
- Seeing a now svelt Mac I'm even more convinced that the Fat Mac season was f*cking genius.
- I've enjoyed the gradual decay of Dennis's Land Rover throughout the series a little too much.
- The Lawyer and his disdain for the gang is a welcome addition to any episode.
- Frank Reynolds: "I got this." Hosptial staff: "Seems legit."
Now let's get to it...

Classic Charlie Kelly.

A Cricket sighting is always welcome. Charlie and Mac explaining to Cricket that he's a dog janitor and actually did not get the last laugh is even more welcome.

Take notes, kids. This is how you go next level with supposed "out of bounds" subjects.

Charlie's illiteracy is top ten running gag for me. "Pretty good, that's close."

Insanity by death of childhood German Shepherd. It almost makes too much sense.

The running movie musings were easily what made "Pop-Pop: The Final Solution." Gosling casting, Hitler time-travel, "It belongs in a museum!," Charlie completely missing the point on everything and turning villain at the end.

"Hitler's painting?! The key to the Holocaust?! RYAN GOSLING PLAYING YOU?!?!"
Good to have you back, IASIP. Good to have you back.

Love. This. Show.
Great way to kick off the season
That setting free the dogs scene was shot right outside my work. Needless to say, it was not productive day for me.
Nazis never go wrong in comedy.
My big question… will Charlie have braces all season long?
Yay for more Cricket, but where the Poyles at?
so happy this show is back. so happy…….
I’m so happy to see the Evolution of Cricket. It’s saddeningly hilarious.
Poor, poor Matthew Mara.
anyone else think dee looked chestier?
I think it’s the pregnant boobs.
z I didn’t notice…but maybe because she had a baby in April?
My wife mentioned that too. She’s pregnant again with their 2nd kid, so it’s probably the baby boobs.
Justified did a Hitler painting episode, that must mean Raylan is coming to Philly!
Only in my dreams.
My god this show took to long to return……
they didn’t skip a beat in jumping into the new season. great episode.
I wish they would have shown what the real Original Hitler looked like. I’m sure they would have come up with some really funny twisted shit.
Dammit! I haven’t seen it yet and I’m dying. Does Cricket have a blind, dead eye?
He does! Got into a fight with a chocolate lab, not to go into any details, but suffice it to say, that is a severely paralyzed dog.
Man, it feels so good to have Sunny back. It’s like being wrapped up in a dirty, stinky and slightly racist blanket. Never leave Gang!
Was it just me or did Frank seem slightly less disheveled last night?
Charlie’s voice in his final, braces-ridden speech had me in tears.
It was great. I wonder if he’ll keep the braces for a few more episodes.
That was the one part of the episode I really didn’t like. Seemed kinda forced.
For some reason I wasn’t loving it during first viewing but re-watching this morning I was.
I didn’t realize he was wearing braces. I thought he was just going crazy Charlie. Now it makes it even better!
I refuse to take notes on something I’ve lived! Well not me,but people I know through other people that saw a hate group once.
I guess the Rickety Cricket – Street Rat edition costume needs to be updated to include the scar across the eye and a “severely paralyzed” chocolate lab accessory.
YES. Then I think it meets the recognizably requirements and trumps Homeless Priest edition.
I agree that the Fat Mac season is even more genius that Mac is back to his regular weight and instead of feeling healthy and back in shape he bemoans the loss of his extra mass and thinks the bar is now in danger. Brilliant.
I thought it was the perfect intro to the new season. And I love that it was just a single season stunt. I will forever refer to “Chardee MacDennis” and “Thunder Gun Express” as being from the Fat Mac season.
I was impressed with how buff Mac looked. I’m sure they will reference that later in the season.
Pop-pop is a Soup Nazi
Brilliant
Mac and Dee telling Cricket that he was the dog Janitor and they had the last laugh… Soooo good.
*charlie
(i’m a jerk like that)
HA! Well deserved correction.
I appreciated the return of Mac’s duster as well.
It was a good call.
I liked all the old callbacks in the episode. It was particularly fitting that it should end the way it did since it was basically a second part to the old Pop-pop episode.
I missed this show so much.
