Boss (Starz, Friday 9 p.m.) — This is the second season finale, and likely the series finale (I haven’t heard anything about the show being renewed, but the ratings have been anemic). If you’re not watching it yet, there’s no reason to start tonight, but do yourself a favor and seek out the series from the beginning. It’s one of the most brilliantly acted shows on television. It’s truly a shame that it’s gone unnoticed, but I, for one, will be sad to lose Kelsey Grammer’s Mayor Kane (and Kathleen Robertson’s nudity). It’s the rare show where you actively root for the evil guy, and when he wins, you hate him even more.
Grimm (NBC, Friday 9 p.m.) — There’s no Fringe tonight, thanks to baseball, so you’ll have to satiate that particular itch with Grimm, a show I haven’t seen since the mess of a pilot. I keep hearing that it’s gotten better, that it’s a suitable Friday night guilty pleasure, but someone is going to have to convince me there’s an interesting mythology to invest in before I delve back into the series.
Saturday Night Live (NBC, Saturday 11:30 p.m.) — Bruno Mars is both the host and the musical guest this week, which is two pretty great reasons not to watch this week’s Saturday Night Live.
The Walking Dead (AMC, Sunday 9 p.m.) — I hope this is the episode where zombies rip off Maggie’s shirt as she’s running away, because we need a sequel to the Alison Brie Running GIFs.
Boardwalk Empire — (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Five episodes into the season, and they’re still wasting Michael Shannon, the best pure actor on the show. What are they saving him for? They need to find a way, stat, to make Van Alden the drama’s central villain.
Dexter/Homeland (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Watch these shows. Dexter, is having its best season since the Trinity Killer, and Homeland is the best drama on television at the moment.

I kind of feel bad for Boss. On Starz in the US, and ‘Super Channel’ in Canada. I don’t know a single person who has ‘Super Channel.’ But somehow they have Boss, Sons of Anarchy, and Homeland. And a bunch of movies nobody wants to watch.
We get TMN and it is turning into junk it used to have the odd decent movie and now never does anymore, the only thing TMN has going for it has porn… The Super Channel actually looks like a better deal to me now I think they took the better shows from FX TNT and showtime. And stupid Bell and Rogers not agreeing on a deal for FX.
‘Effing FX Canada and Murdoch Mysteries. Three hours of that pap in prime time on something that probably sells well to Belgium and Vanuatu.
FX Canada is such a joke. No SoA, no Shield reruns, no Rescue Me reruns. But plenty of Murdoch Mysteries (to fulfill CanCon), old movies and other nonsense. Oh, and they love to promote Terriers and pretend that they’re still making episodes.
And SuperChannel is starting to look attractive, except for the HBO factor. I can’t give up my Treme, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. But yeah, I can do without the seemingly nonstop parade of crappy porn, in both movie and series format.
Micheal Shannon was incredible last week! Look at the contrast in his scenes; half of the time he’s trying to blend in w/ his proto-bro co-workers (which he is amazingly bad at), and the other half he’s negotiating living arrangements w/ his shrill viking au pair, strangling prohies, and disposing of bodies. What more do you want of him??
In Viking culture all sales are fucking final!
Ageed…he steals every scene he is in.
Ugh, stupid baseball, ruining my Fringe viewing.
Grimm is mindless fun, but I wish they’d spend more time on the mythology and less time on the weekly procedural stuff. And the main guy is sort of boring. But his werewolf buddy is delightful.
Yeah no Fringe sucks. But the Yankees got sweept, so there’s that.
I watched the shit out of Boss until I lost Starz. I’m broke, sue me. But it is a really great show.
Ditto. If only Dish had given us two free years instead of one. I would’ve accepted a second year of Starz as compensation for the AMC droppage, but instead they gave us HDNET and the Style channel. Bleh. I ain’t Lindsay Bluth.
The day after I write this, AMC returns to Dish. How ’bout that for a coincidence.
I hate Zajac’s wife, but love that show…
Homeland is not the best drama on television. The plot is so contrived right now. Last weeks episode was pretty laughable, what with Brody being forced into that ridiculous situation. It’s a little early for that show to be spinning its wheels, yet spin they do…
What’s your candidate, then?
Season 1 of Boss was… Boss. As Dr. Teeth said I have no idea who has Starz in the US had this show been on HBO it would be killing it in ratings. I admit I got addicted to Homeland and ordered Showtime just to watch season 2.
I got Starz for free when I switched back to Uverse. There’s no way in hell I’d pay for it otherwise. I watched most of the first season of Boss and liked it, but I have the whole second season sitting unwatched on my DVR. Hopefully I’ll get around to watching it before it shifts to Netflix.
Loving Shannon in Boardwalk, put him and Half Face together for a spin off show.
I go through Boss in spurts. Watched all of season 1 in couple weeks last year, and so far this year I watched three episodes in one day, twice, a couple of weeks apart. I’ll have another marathon session to finish it up soon. I really do love the show, shame it hasn’t caught on, and sadly, I’m part of that with my sporadic viewing.
It’s the same way I prefer to watch Boardwalk Empire.
